  • is reason good for recording guitar type stuff like protools and logic would?

  • fl for me but reason 4 others

  • i dk nothin about music and i just got reason 4 and i need a video or something that help me understand this program

  • what's up with the top right corner of that chair, kid? that shit caught on fire from them hot beats, huh? informational video, and nice toch with the cardboard box desk.

  • How do you delete the demo song?

It keeps loading up when I load sessions on protools and changing my tempo.

It's a complete pain in the arse.

  • @Steveromig go into edit, preferences, general and choose empty rack or choose a file u want to use (that u might have already set up with empty instruments/effects that u normally use)

  • I need to know how to add the music to the track i've followed a tutorial to make a dubstep beat and i dont know how to add the music to listen to it. Someone help me please.

  • @EdxModding Well, all you have to do is press the record button (the red button on the transport bar on the bottom of the screen) and then play your notes, hit stop when you're done and presto.

Also, keep in mind that you have to select the track before playing, otherwise you may record in a track you don't want to record in, or none at all.

    Keep practicing. =)

  • wat if ya dont have a synth

  • is it possible to use the reason drum kits in fl studio?

  • @LooseFit88 Yea with rewire but reason doesn't have good drum kits

  • lol loop nooob

  • yeah you can do that but it is waaaaaaaaay harder to do

  • In a new project (only mixer in the racks), when I first add an instrument (default to mixer channel 1) and then an effect, the effect is linked with my instrument by default. Where and how can i CHOOSE on what instrument (mixer channel) I want a certain effect to be? thx

  • That will be a horrible song.

  • i was wondering how do you use the keyboard on the computer...an how do you get sound from the other sequnces its killing me first tyme using reason an its a fucking headache i usaully use fruity loops trying to upgrade my self

  • @ENTVV midikeys

  • @ENTVV Same here fl studio is always staticking for me now, its horrible for recording audio, and i want pro tools or reason

  • @utprizzo

Lol what do you mean fl studio is horrible for recording lol....you can't even record vocals in reason lol..

  • Hi, does anyone know where or how you can create your own personal sund ... ie dj ... or producer usually use their label name such as red one or convict music ... thanks alot

  • hey griffinavid, im a new user of reason and in the version im using there is no effects synthesizer toolbar or whatever that is to the right of everything your doing and i was just wondering how i could access that. thanks

  • Not convinced

  • making sweet sweet porn music

  • can you plug in your guitar to do pretty much the same as the keyboard?

or do you have to record the guitar onit's own as a seperate recording?

  • BEATS

  • Hey thanks so much for this video. I look forward to checking out more about reason as I'm just learning the software. This video really breaks it down for me. Thanks.

  • why not use em all? >:3

    reason/FL/Ableton live

  • Can you use reason if you dont have a keyboard?

  • @Ponjoe15 yes, u can draw notes in the sequencer and use the drum machine, or an easier way if u want is use the matrix sequencer with any synth and create loops real easy

  • I use reason and FL is there any other software that can help me with my music?

  • can i use a cubase 4 program to record what i make on reason 4?

  • I've played around with other software, and I gotta say that the Reason 4/Record combo is the best. I don't see how anyone can use anything else.

    Can't wait for Reason 5/Record 1.5!

  • @garoad now i am convinced that reason is a great program but do you use a keyboard

  • @garoad can reason 4 be used on pc?

  • reason lack alot of features such as a wave editing\ wave placing on sequencer and limited amount of tools. you cant record a hardware tool such as a synth or a drum machine that sounds 5 times better than reason's even if you have the best soundcard in the world.

  • @djomercohen what software do you suggest then ?

  • the program has slight similarities to FL Studio 9... but the FX and stuff has total differences to FL9...

  • My tool window (You mentioned @ 2:12) is not there. Did my program load correctly?

  • @musicmenace78 you can bring it up by pressing F8 on your computer keyboard or by going to 'Window' and you will see 'Show Tool Window'

  • dude thats really cheap for software. If your a student just look up for discounts or call your local music stores.

  • Hello mate can you tell me what off the shelf mac runs reason 4? As I know there are some problems with the program and Macs, cheers

  • get a keyboard controller. it is so much better!

  • this and pro tools 8 2getha are top class and that without a midi keyboard Im working on getting my keyboard

  • can you use reason without a keyboard and still make melodies?

  • @ButterflyNM14

You can sequence or use Bome's Mouse Keyboard.

  • @ButterflyNM14 u olso can make songs without keyboard

  • @Paul1lx How?

  • yeah ofcourse :D but it will be VERY BOOOORING

  • Yeah you can draw in the melodies in the transport section.

  • @ButterflyNM14 yea, but just get a midi keyboard it is about 100x better...they got for less than 100 bux used on ebay

  • Does this work with a creative prodikeys which has a ps2 lead ???

  • intersting but i personnally prefer fl studio

  • The only thing about reason is that sometimes i put a loop or sound in, and its different when i record it or load it again. how to fix that?

  • how powerful does a computer need to be to handle and run reason at its best [proseser etc?]

  • Pentium 1 with 1ciore proseser.

    Just overclock it.

  • to play bass or guitar or something, do u have to have something attached to the computer?(like a piano like you have)

I just downloaded Reason4 and i cant play bass sounds in the computer, like i did with the drums.

  • I can add only 1 instrument, when I add more instruments then the ''hardware device'' doesn't recognize them, it only shows red lights beneath the slots I connected them,

    Can anyone help me?

  • I just picked up an M-Audio Keystudio at Best Buy for about $90, that's pretty hard to beat. It's usb. No complaints.

  • i mean...do i have to use a midi keyboard or i can paly notes on the pc keyboard??

  • nah bro just click ur instrument on the sequencer n then click on the switch 2 edit button n then click on the pencil button n then u just click the note you want

  • do i need a usb keyboard to use with reason?..or can i just use the keyboard on the computer to make notes?? if i need some keyboard like that he is using..can someone tell me whats the best and cheap keyboard on the market and price..so i can get one...just loving reason ...

  • You don't need a midi keyboard. You can just draw in the notes with the mouse.

  • The korg nanokey may work well for you. :)

  • You can create your own editable .rex "reason" files by using Propellerheads software Recycle. It allows you to convert all .wav files to .rex files which you can then easily import using the Dr. Rex synthasizer...so you can "start from scratch". Hope this helps. :) --SlayerX--

  • I wish Reason 4 weren't so expensive, seriously £260? :|

  • Can someone tell me how to make triplets without a keyboard??? like a midi drum

  • nice

  • loops???

how u make ur own. ty. i h8 loops as its someone elses.

  • i need help with reason, i just bought a m-audio keyrig 49 midi keyboard, and i got reason 4, and when i record some thing right the levels of what i record arnt the same how can i change them, or do something so it always stays the same...

  • It'd really be nice to just "start from scratch" instead of picking loops and modifying it, i'd really like to see someone start from a REAL SCRATCH SESSION.

  • can you generate your own rex loops from wavs as I don't like using loops other people have already mixed

  • Who new computer software could be so addictive? = )

  • one question.. u gotta have a keyboard plugged to use reason 4 right? is it possible with a guitar? :S

  • It should be possible. But then you'll need a MIDI guitar. Not just a guitar. (actually same for keyboard. Your keyboard needs to have MIDI in order for it to work with Reason).

  • THIS IS SOOO COOL!

  • Korg Kontrol49 nice =)

  • is there a piano roll like in fruity loops in reason4?

  • yes there is

  • Hello. Is there a some way to control two virtual instruments (devices) in same time? U know, like combining them or smth?

  • does it have auto tune

  • can this record voice... like if i'm creating the beats but i wanna add some singing?

  • no live recording, but you can it import as a wav file and cut it with Recycle ?!

  • how u make wav??? to import???

  • record with any kind of recording software and a microphone

  • Reason is one of the best softwares

  • How do I take that snap to grid off? it'z kind of annoyin'. This never was on Reason 3. When I'm tryin' to put a note on, everytime I do it makes a space of where I can put my note. o.O

  • can any one tell me what program would be best to use for drum and bass

  • Its not what program, but a matter of what samples. What type of music do you produce?

  • Also, Reason doesn't record audio. You'll have to use it as a rewire client and record using other app.

  • all of the pro studios use pro tools logic and pro tools hardware

  • Could someone give me some advice. I started listening to electronic music a year ago and I am thinking of making my own music. Could someone tell me what the difference between all these different pieces of software such as; Cakewalk, Reason 4, the Roland software, Sony Acid and Pro Tools. Also what do the professionals use.

  • I'd recommend FL studio. I personally haven't used Reason But I do own the full version of FL. It's great for Electronica and techno type music, it has a lot of synths and I just think it has better service/ value than Reason. Image-line has a big variety of synthesizers to buy and XXL edition comes with a lot of them. It's 400 dollars average for the XXL package I think. I use it and I've never been unable to find or make the sound I need. Hope this helps.

  • So you've never used reason but you think FL has beteter service/value....Nice, I'll definitely be taking your advice!

  • Reason sounds more 'Professinal' But FL is a Brilliant program for people starting out

  • Ive only really just started getting into sound recording, and im actually more into recording guitars and such than electronic music, but i can tell you, Pro Tools is pretty much the standard for sound and midi, and alot of professionals do use it. Reason 4 is basically just for midi, Cakewalk is a toned down easier to use DAW like Pro Tools, Sony Acid is almost the same but is based more on looping and things like that. And as for the Roland software, there isnt much i can tell you for that.

  • Logic, Ableton and Reason are all good. Cubase has it's merits as well.

  • Nice vid!

  • i stumble on this Reason quit some time now,

is this an industry standard like photoshop? do all DJ's use this?

  • Some use FL Studio (most notably Basshunter), but I think most of the professionals use Reason or some other program

  • No, its not really the industry standard, DAW software doesnt really have one, but if it does, that'd be Cuebase by Steinburg. No, most DJ's use other software, probably FLStudio by Image-Line.

  • Some producers use it it really varies....

  • you can use Reason 4 also without keyboard, you can type the keys in reason when you go to the edit mode (sorry for my bad english)

  • @MasterC3PO do you now what kind of keyboard do you think your using in this video?

  • i don;t have one of them keyboards... does that mean i can't use reason? i do have a normal keyboard but don't know if i can connect that to my computer guess not it's pretty old.

  • You don't need a keyboard to use reason, but it helps when you're trying to make a melody. You need to look for a midi keyboard, they simply plug in to your computer. You could probably get a cheap one from ebay.

Costlier midi keyboards have buttons and sliders etc on them which can do things like mess with the pitch of a sound and so on, so get one of them if you're used to Reason.

  • it costed me a good 400 dollars for reason 4 i jus began with it, my patna bout to let me borrow the reason dvd so once i understand this its alllll good..but thats a great basic clip thanks

  • everyone whos confused... just get a korg pad kontrol and you'l lbe set.. i finally got 4 today and its sweet .. i had the adapted version which is just the sounds that come with the pad kontrol when you first get it..

  • sorry if i look like an ignorant but, can i load vst with reason?

wich is better? ableton live 7 or reason 4 ?

  • so when u connect the keyboard. it doesnt play from its speakers, but the pcs?

  • can you use the program without the midi thing?

  • Looks so confusing...

Do you need to have a musical keyboard?

  • hi can i record real instruments in REASON 4 such as saxophone, voice, guitars etc? thanks

  • whats the best software for begginers ?

and do you HAVE to have a keyboard to make a good beat ?

  • Ok I know a professional he has been playing more then 30 years... He finally got a mac and he said Garageband is better then the 500 dollar Logic Pro or Logic Express he said Garageband is the best and he will never have to use an instrument to record again.. he will still play but not record..

  • i use it for 2 days now and i can say its absolutely awesome

  • can i please ask, do u need a midi keyboard or is it not nesscesary?

  • yea? can u load vst ?

  • how did u learn to use it?

  • Is Reason better or FL Studio? I'm trying to decide before i buy

  • reason is the best

  • reason any day! :)

  • lets just say both are good, You can make great music with both. Its all up to wich works best for you. Try them both, to be on the safe side.

  • well, it depends in what you want to do. FL is easier to use, but it's for amateur use mostly. Reason is much more complicated but this software is totally pro.

  • ok how do I connect my guitar to that ?

  • you cant connect your guitar to reason unless your instrument has midi pickups. If it has them, it should work exactly as a midi controller does.

  • i don't have it yet .. but i already love it yeaaaaah !!

  • Yeah, but it's a pain in the a** ...

  • can't i use the QWERTY keyboard like in FL?

  • lmfaoooooo

  • i love this program,i been useing it since 2.0 lol hahahah way better then frutiloops like wtf,its like appels and oranges

  • FL studios is a very decent program. i use reason but Fl studios in a sense is much more flexible with VST plugins etc. and recording.

reason has tons of sound banks though you can use but i wish it can use some of the really great vst plug ins

  • i use fl too, but i'm planning on changing to reason. it actually seems better

  • why not use both ? lol thats what i do.

  • Anyone who says stuff like that knows nothing about fl studio, and clearly just goes with popular opinion.

  • a tip for any amature producers here, although it costs a bomb, using 2 programs in conjunction can really improve your production skills, i use logic 8 and reason 4, reason for the basic patterns, synths etc and logic for effects and mastering.

  • awesome tute

  • BIGGGGGG thx for this1,

I have been looking for simple and useful info with useing reason!!

  • i don't understand in what is reason "WAY better" than Fruity Loops Studio! U can do songs more professional than on reason and it's way simpler.

I don't get what people like in programs so hard to use!!!

  • because when you can use those hard complex programs, you can write better songs numbnuts.

you could of probably worked that one out yourself.

and although reason has alot of stuff to cover, id say its one of the more easy to use programs. The virtual rack makes everything so easy. try using logic pro 8 and see if you can even make a simple sawtooth trance synth that didnt start life as a preset.

  • one thing is u need a keyboard and all that bullshit im professional and i dont have a keyboard reason hmm idk cuz i dont like having to spend 0385308503 years making a beat fl studio comes out as better when u think about it the quickest way to lay down your ideas is fl studio and ableton live idk its opinions but i know fl studio is the quickest way to lay down ideas

  • why is this better than fl studio? i want to get into making music but not sure how to go about it properly

  • It isn't for one BIG reason, Reason is HARD to use. If you don't have a keyboard, then you can't use it. Plus, sticking samples in reason isn't easy, you have to convert it into a rex first , or use redrum( wont cut samples right).

The only thing it has over Fl8 is the built in synths, but if you more use to sampling, then no, Fl8 is better.

However, im using redum and re-wire into fl8 for some drums, but FL8 is still my manu program.

  • It is better than FL-Studio because of various reasons concerning functionality and possibilities. If youre a beginner I dont think it makes much of a difference what program u use. Fl was made for hiphop ("loops"), but I make electro with it. I started with FLstudio for example. If I were you I would chose reason, or cubase. Theyre top-end.

  • Tomorrow I get a midi keyboard. I guess the more controls knobs the better??

  • this video really helps yo!

i got myself a midi keyboard for Reason n all i need is learrrn

  • how or where can i get reasons4 and whats the cost

  • from the guitar center... i think about three hundred dollars

  • Is it required to have a keyboard before making songs in reason? I am currently using fl studio but i dont know wich is better? (:

  • Reason is better than Fl studio and is no necessary to use a keyboard in reason , you can use a keyborad if you want, is better but not necessary.

  • is it required to have a keyboard before being able to make decent trakcs in reason?

  • What is the name of the Reason folder that downloaded refills need to be placed in? I'm running Vista Ultimate. Thanks for this post!

  • ok so how do you turn on the setting for AUTO QUANTIZE?

  • thx dude

  • is there a way to import mp3s on here

  • thanks alot bro! :)

  • Can you link up other external equiment with reason 4? such as a microkorg synth or kaoss pad? Thanks

  • yeah goto to midi sync on ur extetnal device and set it then goto sync in the options in reason and set it to receive the signal and ur good to go.

  • what kind of midi is he using ?can u help me

  • How do i insert volume and pan envelopes into the sequenser?

    Thanx

  • Great vid. Thanks to the uploader and James for recording it.

  • How can i upload a file or mp3 into Reason ?? does any one know ??

  • You cant load mp3 in Reason...it has to be a wav file..then you can load into NXT as sample.hope that helps.

  • If you convert your mp3 back into WAV format(or AIFF if you use a mac)...you can then load your file into the NXT sampler.hope that helps

  • you might need recycle from propellerhead studios to turn it into a loop .but im unsure so its a possible lead

  • what kind of software can i use to make my own sound as in Kore2 and software like that, any good choices???

    im fairly new to producing!!

i have ableton live 7 and reason 4

  • Very useful video, makes understanding the interface a lot easier. Thanks bro!

  • So what's a good master keyboard for Reason that's somewhat affordable? I'm clueless.

  • i bought the akai mpk49l, very good midi keyboard with loads of different tools at a "reason"able price xD

  • ive used reason to perform on my mrs, dats it,next?

  • u don't need a midi keyboard, you can use sampeler too...

  • Anyone using reason 4 to perform live?

  • Thanks for uploading

  • U iaa

  • i agree

  • i'm gonna get reason 4 but i didn't have a midi controller...it will gonna be difficult? in fl studio i can play with my pc keyboard...

  • you cant do that in reason

  • You can use reason as ReWire with Fl Studio as Host..

  • why don't you just buy one!!!?? They're as cheap as chips, if you can afford Reason you can definitely afford a midi keyboard

  • can i use this as a DAW?

  • You lot should STFU

Seriously, have you only just been able to afford a Mac and Logic?? Reading these replies it sounds like a typical fucking noob being the big man.

Logic is great and if you can't see the merits of what Reason can also do then you must be thick as shit. This is coming from a longterm Logic user

  • Can anybody tell me how to separate the music's vocal from the music for other usages? Because I'd like to make a new from an original song.

  • You can't really. Every producer dreams of a program that could. Find an acapella somewhere. Or use the original and fit it in a new style..
