What most people seem to forget is that there is a HUGE difference between a dirty hit or cheap shot, and attacking someone with your stick. With a dirty hit, you'll get penalized. If you go after someone with your stick, during the play or not, that can be grounds for assault and you can actually be arrested

Am I the only person who thinks the Moore hit on Naslund wasn't even that bad? It was just unfortunate. It was unfortunate that Naslund fell down and had his head exposed. Had he kept skating and not fallen, it would have been a good, clean check. I might be underestimating the agility of NHLers, but I don't think he could have averted course at the point it became obvious he was going to land the hit on his head.

Bertuzzi's hit was unfortunate. Bert's hit wasnt that bad. a lot of moore's injuries came from how he fell, and the vast number of people who decided to pile on.

Moore's hit was dirty. it was an assault because it was a true sucker hit.  by surprise, using his elbow. that is an assault. not clean.
