  • I wish i could crop dust in that thing

  • Red Arrows, doesn't get better

  • Oh!!! Gawd......suggestion...er, RUN!

  • The music made me hungry for chow mein and fried rice...

  • There goes the second best air force in the world!

  • @TheLuke1729 I'm not even going to bother looking at your profile to see where you're from, only an american could be so stupid :') You people really do know how to make your country the laughing stock of the world. Why does it mean so much to you people for you to think you are the best in the world at everything? But anyway just to put you in your place. RAF - Best pilots - Best technology - Best track record - And most respected air force to ever exist. Now go boost your ego some more yank :)

  • @xHurrendous Yes, we do really well with the whole pilots losing certification because there aren't enough planes to keep them flying, and there not being enough planes because the supply chain for spare parts is buggered so they have to cannibalise aircraft to keep others flying. And we just retired our signals intelligence aircraft, the Nimrod, and won't have a replacement to 2014, when we buy the USAF's old ones. In terms of capability we're somewhere behind Russia or maybe China

  • @cjeam9199 The point still stands, the RAF is the best air force in the world lol........ And by far the most respected.

  • Is this real? Isn't the airframe supposed to come off for that airspeed on this low altitude?

  • The footage must be from the 1960's rather than the 70's, maybe around 1967. By 1969 the Red Arrows paintscheme definitely had a lightning flash on each side below the canopy. I think that was added around 1968, maybe earlier. Great to see this on YouTube, thanks for posting it.

  • That are boys!!

  • Back in the days when men were men and boys wished they were even manlier than them!

  • @SillyEddyPhotography Back in the days when men were men and women liked what men would do to them. The good old days.

  • Whats the song in this video? This is, by the way, one of the most awesome flyby videos Ive seen.

  • @CaptainSpork7 Status Quo... Pictures of Matchstick Men.

  • @mollyisagooddog Thank you good sir!

  • Cut my grass on the way by why don't you....

  • Sucks to be the camera man

  • I remember the red arrows performing right above my house in the old days just because their base was so close, now all i see is a yearly flyby :(

  • @RoundBrushSteve church fenton? such a shame that the base is so dead now

  • @willwoodhouse yeah i live in Grimsby so they used to pop down the river Humber to perform displays, do they still practise in spain or have they moved again?

  • @RoundBrushSteve not spain any more, they do their pre-season lead up training in Cyprus and then some more back at Scampton when they get into the display season

  • my van smokes like that....

  • I hope he wasn't doing this during the bird nesting season.

  • thats some a+ pilot skills on show

  • matchstick men!!!!! status quo!!!

  • chemtrails :p

  • Thats one old school looking red arrow. Also RIP to the two red arrow pilots killed this year

  • @ExecutionerThe

You are right about it being an old school plane. It was the formidable Gnat, which according to many, was the greatest little fighter jet ever!

The Arrows were a lot of fun back then. Still are, but more then.

  • good musik!!..

  • imagine that thing fly oer your house!! that would really wake you up in the morning

  • @eb62224 at that height, he'd be flying through it! lol

  • @eb62224 RAF.....My alarm Clock for the past 18 years :-P

  • This is even more amazing due to the fact that this is under full pilot control, no computers or gyro keeping it stable.

  • Thumbs up if you were dodging the plane in your chair...

...or ever did during the intro of the original 'Star Trek' series.

  • Awesome song, to bad the video was not longer to enjoy the entire thing.

  • i feel like i was watching a retro 70's psychedelic spy movie.

  • @bkekss Lol it is a retro psychadelic 70's movie and you just missed out on that era.

  • Is that an alpha jet?

  • @rock3tcat Folland Gnat

  • @rock3tcat No Its a Folland Gnat T2

  • should of made the most of it, some time later health and safety steped in.

  • Far out!

  • Really Awsome Flying = RAF

  • @noponat666 indeed, thank you

  • Props to the camera crew.

  • NO HAY NADA MEJOR COMO EL AT-63 PAMPA DE LA FUERZA AEREA ARGENTINA... EL MAYOR VUELO RAZANTE DEL MUNDO... BUSQUENLO EN YOUTUBE.COM

  • great low passes! I remember many days years ago shooting the same type of shots with F4 phantoms. My ears have never been the same since, bit worth the views.

  • thats just cool.

  • Esto es volar bajo, un piloto de verdad, un piloto argentino:

    /watch?v=7ZxecONPNWY&feature=related

  • Yeah that's the red arrows they won't be doing this anymore :( because one of their best pilots crashed and died

  • @Graham527r They change the crews year on year... they'll be back to the full 9 next year. It was tragic indeed that that pilot (John Egging I think his name was, am I right on that?) was killed, but they all knew it could happen.

  • @Graham527r Of course they will, accidents happen but the Red Arrows will still go on.

  • @KGzII thanks

  • Red Arrows --> <3

  • The song is Pictures of Matchstick Men by Status Quo.

  • does anyone knows details about this film?

  • the name of the song please...

  • the music is 10x better than the flying

  • RAF the best at low level flying!

  • Groovy.

  • Yay Boscombe Down! :D

  • Fucking bad ass

  • There is always some crazy bastard in every airforce!!!

  • Just routine for them.

  • They never let me fly that low when I drove Gnats while in training!

Though I'd have probably bottled it!!

The Gnat was a lovely aircraft though as an advanced trainer not too easy to fly and I often found it a handful though I still managed to complete the course somehow. I'm a Quo fan so loved the music too.

  • Status Quo - Pictures Of Matchstick Men AMAZING SONG!!!!!

  • British pilots... Respect !

  • Those Gnats are damn awsome!

  • Fuck the blue angels, this is the real deal.

  • Its the Red Arrows What Cant they Do?

  • Why does it stop at 0:20? :( Is there no longer version availlible?

The footage is awesome and the music too!

  • They can built an amazing aircraft, but not a 1080p camera in that time :(

  • What's the song

  • @Earnhardtracing88 pictures of matchstick men by status quo, a great song choice :)

  • @roseipk Great days indeed.

  • are you sure this isnt thunderbirds

  • @browntrout2k7

Yes, we are sure this isn't the Thunderbirds.

It's British Folland Gnat displaying the RAF roundel, and has the distinctive Red Arrows paint scheme.

  • @squirttle92 i was only joking......i think the red arrows are excellent

  • That's how the Red Arrows mow their lawn!

  • I'll bet Aliens can't do that!

  • So many planes!!!

  • What the song called??

  • cool

  • Great, thanks for uploading !

    Grtz.

  • My Brother in Law and his CoPilot were lkilled in one of these Gnats - metal fatigue. RAF Upper Heyford Oxfordshire December 1971. That crash contributed to their ultimate withdrawal from service in 1979

  • @waldenhouse I was based in RAF Wroughton at that time and remember the incident. They were in all our thoughts at that time.

  • @mollyisagooddog

I don't understand. Did the plane tore apart?

  • @brightlights456X No this was normal for the time. Most pilots train for low level attack.

  • @mollyisagooddog

I see. So Waldenhouse2 brother-in-law flew too low. Is that what happened to him?

  • @brightlights456X Waldenhouse2 was referring to an incident at RAF Upper Heyford on 13th December 1971 when XR567 on a routine training flight over the American airbase towards the end of the flypast his wingtip fell off and the gnat nosedived into the runway. Flt.Lt. David Clem Longdon and Flt.Lt. Richard "Dick" Michael Storr were killed.

  • @mollyisagooddog

Ahhh, I see. Thank you so much for the information.

  • @mollyisagooddog

I see. Thank-you so much for the information.

On a side note. What is your favourite plane of all time?

  • @brightlights456X It would have to be the Hawker Siddley Buccaner a low-level strike aircraft with nuclear weapon delivery capability serving with the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force between 1962 and 1994, including service in the 1991 Gulf War. I used to stand at the side of the runway in Gibraltar and watch a pair of these take off. It was like being at the loudest disco in the world. Great days indeed.

  • @mollyisagooddog

Are people still aloud to stand at the side of runways?

Also, do they still have SR-71's at airshows?

  • @brightlights456X In the RAF back in the '70's you could walk from the men's accomodation block to the main hangers by walking beside the runway. If jets were taking off you couldn't get much closer. The SR-71 has been retired since 1998 The Air Force quickly disposed of their SR-71s, leaving NASA with the two last flyable Blackbirds until 1999. All other Blackbirds have been moved to museums except for the two SR-71s and a few D-21 drones retained by the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center.

  • @mollyisagooddog

Thats a damn shame.....on BOTH accounts.

Do you go to air shows? Have you been to any? If so, are they worth it?

  • @brightlights456X

Gibraltar is very very small, they got traffic lights side to side to the airport runway, when there is no aircraft traffic the cars drive across. You can see it on google maps if you think thats not true

  • @cuadernodemarietta

Ooohh yes. I see it now. Thanks:D

  • @mollyisagooddog There's one parked beside a filling station in Elgin still! - great plane indeed

  • @waldenhouse sorry for your loss all those years ago. but if your b-i-l's crash contributed to their withdrawl, is it normal that it takes 8 years for it to happen? I know you can't just get rid of all of them, but still, 8 years is 8 years.

  • @waldenhouse 8 years after they died?

  • Fake! Airplanes don't exsist!

  • I'm joking. I'm joking. I love it really. And il av the steak. :)

  • Load of shit.

  • @24Pearhead Why did you favourite it then?

  • @mollyisagooddog because he is fucking inbreed...

  • @24Pearhead powned

  • I have seen still photos taken from some of these passes and the pilot is said to have been Ray Hanna.

  • @BaronBoy100 Yep, the consensus is that it is the late great Ray Hanna.

  • @BaronBoy100 Yup - it was Ray and the film maker / photographer was Arthur Gibson who had a long relationship with the Arrows right up to his death in the mid eighties

  • That can't be RAF Becauase they don't own any Mirage F1's that's the plane in the video , most probably France airforce

  • @DiabloJets It's a Folland Gnat used by the RAF from 1959 to 1979 long before you were born young man. Thank you for the comment.

  • @DiabloJets

    that plane is a hawk

the newer version had the wings lowered to met modern standards

  • @LOUISVART its not a haek its a gnat you plonker

  • @LOUISVART its a hawk you ignorant twat

  • Comment removed

  • @blahblah48856

    That's not a Hawk, it's a Gnat.

  • @LOUISVART come back to the conversation once you've been with the RAF for all ypur life. this is a Folland Gnat, not a Hawk

  • @WhitakerSJA

and you have been with the raf all of your life?

    ypur?

  • Royal Air Force and Pakistan Air Force Long live.No body compete with us.

  • Ray hanna was known for flying super low with the gnat. awesome video

  • R.I.P Flt Lt Jon Egging. Died a hero in thinking of others over himself.

  • Ha I thought that was Topper Harley flying in that jet!
