I saw her private performance in Vancouver perhaps in 2007.She played Shostakovich viola/piano concerto(can't remember the specifics) with such force yet grace. I wish I could live again that moment!
Thanks so much for including this. What a remarkable performance! Zimmerman is such a charismatic performer. My impression is that Penderecki (the conductor) is restrictive in terms of how much the soloist is allowed to "bend time." Nevertheless, Zimmerman is able to convey a real feeling of spontaneity. I'd love to see a more recent performance by Zimmerman--sense that since she stopped playing with a shoulder rest, she's felt a lot more physically free and natural.
To listen to any of Penderecki's compostitions and not to think of the shining is almost impossible I mean the soundtrack to that movie stands out more than anything besides Nicholson's epic performance and the amazing directorial effort that Kubrick put forth in this classic film Penderecki is my all time favorite composers his compositions are just so damn haunting it can fit into a lot horror movies of the past and some present day horror flicks.
An excellent performance! I'm a violist & I know this piece, & her playing is top-rate. Her sound is beautiful & expressive, the articulation is precise, & the intonation is accurate-- admirable given this is a live performance of very difficult material. Her posture is weird, but who cares? Because of the inherent awkwardness of playing viola, many great players have unorthodox solutions to the technical challenges. What matters is the result-- & this is a truly great performance!
makes me want to work on my shifting. Abyss, if you are referring to her technique, I beg to disagree. playing a viola that is relatively large such as zimmermann, requires a tweak in "standard" technique.
Really? terrible? well, lets see you post a video with better form and then I'll believe you. I think her form boarders on flawless and unless you can bring some proof to light that contradicts that, I would like to throughly beg to differ: )
Personally I don't think Zhislin plays it better, it's terribly scrappy. It's also quite emotionally dry. The piece itself seems to have developed a lot since then. Tabea Zimmerman's is astounding, but I prefer Kashkashian for sound an concept. Just my thoughts!
The conductor looks like he has horrible bad breath and un-cut smallpinga cheese!

The only thing that can compare to this is Kim Kashkashian's recording. Phenomenal.

no wonder it sounds so good..he is conducting his own piece...most performances I hear of this piece are stoic and angular..lol

Wielki Penderecki. Cieszy mnie wspaniała, domniemana przeze mnie akustyka. Kobieta gra naprawdę ponętnie. Estetyka wspaniale demoniczna. Genialna jak zwykle.
