Thanks for the wonderful video. One thing about Devon earth is that it is a beautiful red colour not found anywhere else, so you always know when you getting near home.
@japattymatty Well, if you use a herd of bullocks to mix your cob, they will shit & piss on it as they go round. You can't toilet-train cows, they do what they need to when they need to. If you're driving them round the farm-yard over the cob-pile, it happens.
cobs didnt originate from england , ancients use to make cob houses to live in thousands years ago and some still do today, some of their houses still stand, the way was put aside for some time but its here again now, wonderfull video
Even though there are examples of old Cob building methods employed at various times in the US, our "native" equivalent was the Sod house, which was made by heaping layers of prairie sod together to form walls. While these houses are fairly solid they don't last the hundreds of years that Adobe and Cob houses do. Most of our "anti-cob" building codes are really "anti-sod" and designed to keep idiots from living in dangerous housing. Hopefully they'll get the message that cob is different.
awesome video! this may hopefully be the one that pushes my wife over the edge to my building our home from cob. lol thanks and keep up the good work!
Youtube doesnt let me post links whatsoever! Or I must be doing something wrong.
That house on that show was so breathtaking I fell in love with it! I would love to live in one. I didn't expect the price to be so high though. But it was stunning!
hmmm...you might not want to click some of those links on that page, as my internet has blocked them as attack sites but the actual page is ok. I got the info I wanted from it. Lots of pics.
This is a great video and highlights the difference in attitude between the UK & US to cob - Ok, it's a bit generalistic to say this, but true!
Strange how the strawbale building movement in the UK is the opposite - very much geared towards low-cost, user-friendly, hand-on owner build approach.
I can't believe the comment someone made about this being preachy & lefty - some people!
Yeah. Sometimes I wish everything didn't have a political twist. Cob was probably phased out in the US because of free (or cheap), supposedly abundant trees. Therefore the US doesn't know all that much about building with mud mixtures.
Oh my.... a pity this has such a weird, preachy, leftist slant. Because otherwise it is fascinating stuff. It's a way to allow anyone to make cheap structures and bypass the over inflated housing material/construction rat race.
If the left would just focus on making things CHEAPER yet BETTER, all the world would dance to their desires. But preaching about how you are all earth saving super heroes just hurts the natural, ubiquitous human desire to be practical, excellent, and cost effective.

Thank You! I truly enjoyed your video.
I detest the N.A. rules by the 'norm', where one MUST have wealth to do anything really unique.
