  • we played this at competition, but I think we took it too slow. It was more of a jog than a jig...

  • I play Double Bass in this piece, absolutely amazing! :D

  • Won a Superior with Distinction at a state competition. We kicked ass. And I'm being modest.....just sayin'.

  • I play second violin for this piece, it is soooooo amazing (:

  • St Paul's Suite is at IMSLP for free, since it's public domain.

  • viola!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Athleteluver7 Great! what chair are you in the firsts? maybe i can remember :) i sit next to emily im also a first

  • Some compared this to "Kingdom Dance" from the Disney movie "Tangled". Eh,...I'm not so sure. :-/

  • Man this is faster than we play it (thankfully!!!!)

  • oh god...the section at the end, the chromatic part....arrggh we always struggled there.

  • I totally love this song!! We are playing this in EPYOS at El Paso, and it is really a pleasure for 7th and 8th graders to play this! Cellos sound great! Violas play like pros! 2Violins are awesome!!

    Go 1 violins!

  • Played this at YOSA and my Orchestra. LOVE this song. <3

  • dude that was chill as shit. go viola.

  • it was really cool that it has a score to go with it!

cello in this song is sooooooooooooooo awesome!

    viola too!

    holst rocks!!!

  • base and cello are the heart of the orchestra, the violas are the lungs, the violins are the eyes <3 and the conductor is the heart (if there IS one) :D

  • 神☆この曲文化祭で弾くwww

  • love this music it's truly epic!!! we're playing it in the string quartet i lead at the moment!!! :D GO ALL BOWED STRINGS!!!!!

  • This is really good, I wonder witch orchestra played this?

  • Our orchestra is playing this piece, and we're also using it as the music for our seat auditions... This is really fun to play. Violins FTW! *skips out humming the music*

  • o.O In my orchestra we play this song like 10x slower than this... :(

  • This posting is AWESOME for one can watch the score and listen at the same time -- thank you so much for posting this!

  • Good!!!

  • Every school orchestra in the world has played the St. Paul's Suite, and there's reason for that. It's easy and fun to play. Holst may not have been the greatest composer of all time, but he was the greatest at writing music that ordinary people (not virtuosos) can play.

This sounds like an older recording. What orchestra is it?

  • playing this lively piece of music is fun!! :D

  • I am playing this song with my orchestra! c:

  • This proves that Gustav Holst wrote something that's just as great as The Planets.

  • Celli souunded amaazing -3

  • We play this at Birmingham Schools String Sinphonia !!! GO VIOLINS :D

  • excuse me but bass rocks too you know

  • I'm torn between the top two comments because I play and love both instruments. Oh wel. This piece is AWESOME.

  • i played this two years ago as a 1st violinist, and am right now playing it again in front of the screen with the music. =)

  • OH MY GOD! I went to HPMS TOO!!! I played this in London, or Boston on tour! AMAZING so many memories

  • i wanna play this too, oh damn i play indian classical and we don have orchestras, shame!!!! back the audience seat for me!!!

  • We are playing this for our festival competition at UNLV :D

    -Hyde Park Middle School

    * we rock because we are only in middle school playing this. :D

  • Love how you put the score :D

  • my orchestra played this too! always reminded me of pirates of the caribbean

  • My school is going to play this and djsnjz

  • y school played this at a state contest and we won...this is a great and fun song!

  • we're playing this in junior high because my orchestra's pro.

  • Thanks for including the score.

  • i hav 2 play this 4 a concert for my school...

  • I just played this today at a concert after a camp of one week...

    *____*

It's so much fun to play... power, speed, nice harmonies, everything is just perfect

solo viola vs 6 celli + 9 violins.... VIOLA FTW!!!!!

  • @ParadiseQuestMangaka Thank you, exactly what I wanted to know; the instruments used on this composition.

  • @agormanvideos you're welcome but if you're thinking of setting up a performance of it... the ideal size of a small orchestra for it would be around 5 for 1st and for 2nd violins each, 4 violas (AT LEAST!!! ;D) and... yeah, between 4-6 celli... that would be good...

  • @agormanvideos that's just the composition of our orchestra at that time... I'd put up at least 3 violas, if not 4; 6 first and 6 second violins and between 6 and 8 celli, depending on how good they are at varying the dynamics... if I were the conductor... ;D

  • haha we played this for all-state middle school orchestra last year! OMG that was SOOOOOO fun!

  • Well, I don't have much experience with orchestral strings, but I know the viola is slightly larger and lower-pitched than the violin. But to be honest, I've always wanted to play the cello...:)

  • I remember playing this suite for a concert around a month ago. It was probably my favorite movement of the whole suite. And the suite was my favorite piece of the concert. And I was a second violin so I got to play that amazing soli part.

  • I actually really like your idea of posting the notes as the song progresses. But it makes me wonder how conductors can cue every section at the right time so consecutively. That would give me a headache!

Orchestra for the win! Down with band! The rivalry in my school never ends. :)

  • Gracias!!! me va a ser muy util para estudiarla :-D la estoy practicando en este momento!

  • I feel really bad for the violins only not really because this is like revenge lol GO VIOLAS!!!!!!!

  • VIOLINS FTW! BETCH!

  • Legendary song. Played this in HS. It was epic!

  • LISFA just performed this

  • I can totally imagine this on an rpg game like final fantasy or somthing.

Really neat song, i heard it on the radio yesterday and felt really inspired by it to create some music.

  • what a glorious piece of music

  • Holst is my absolute biggest inspiration in Classical music.

  • i'm playing this now :D:D GO DOUBLE BASS !!!

  • @C3POmeetsData it's kind of unavoidable, seeing as i'm playing it in orchestra. I do not need to be educated on his writing style. I see it every single day and i'd say i'm fairly familiar with it. Thank you for your answer. Another tip off to the fact that i play could be that i did specify 3 pages.

  • Cool idea with the score right there as the music scrolls along!

  • we're playing this song too :) mostly the 1st and 4th mvt.'s. We were going to do the Ostinato at one point (2nd violin part's a little redundant to say the least) but we had to make more room so out it went. either way, i love playing this piece, with or without the 2nd mvt. :P

  • @cheeezzzeee01 only redundant? you play the SAME 3 fricking notes for three pages... it aggravates me to no end.

  • @ItaniaJustrivger lmao, yeah, no offense to Gustav but it's kinda the equivalent of Pachabel's Canon in the cello part

  • @ItaniaJustrivger Variations on a theme is Holst's writing style. Watch a different video if you don't like it.

  • im playing this at my schoool!!!!

  • @lylrocker same here! its awesome

  • hello. nice video.

would you mind to send me this sheet?

    comment pls.

  • @ander2365 do you mean the sheet music? it's available online for free...can't remember the site---something like free sheet music dot com.

    go google it.

  • VIOLA THUNDER.

  • I really hate the fact that our orchestra director replaced this with Ostinato for State MPA... We would've done better with this piece than Ostinato... All that wasn't perfect was the ridiculous run for the violins but it was pretty darn decent. >_<

  • This is a great high-quality video!

We played this for school :)

    Fun piece!

  • Arrr! Tis Giv Ya Thar Piratey Feel Arr HAR har!

  • liking the violin 2 soli ^^

  • GO VIOLIN!!! but VIOLAS ROCK too!!

  • The secret violin handshake: Go up to someone, shake their right hand and say "Hi! I'm better then you."

  • Violas all the way!! hate when ppl ask if its a violin. Darn Noobies!

  • I've played this in orchestra twice. It's a great piece!

  • YA WE VIOLAS ROCK!

  • @NihilTico I love to see so many violas!

  • I love this song

  • It's an epic piece, but it sounds like something that would be in Super Smash Bros Melee. It's still awesome though.

  • Simply Amazing

  • I just playing this song. Our school got to play it at Disney Hall a couple weeks ago. GO FIRST VIOLIN!!! XD

  • yeah my orchestra barely made it. haha. but viola part for the win!! seriously.

  • Amazing. My orchestra can never get through the triplet streak :P lol

  • this song is so cool im playin it in SOTA tho i find it kinda hard to keep up to e pace haha.i play the violin....phew..

  • My orchestra is playing it

    Space Center Intermediate

  • we played this at All State Orchestra this year :D GO CELLO!

  • @FreakofFrapps Yess i just got done playing this at a concert! Such a powerful first movement

  • @FreakofFrapps o really? bc my All State Orchestra is playing it this year :P

  • @FreakofFrapps You bet!! Cellos rule! I want to play this with my orchestra, although it is a full symphony orchestra, so the brass and wind can take a break and let us strings show what we can do!

  • Our orchestra is playing this song. IT'S AMAZING!!!

  • the chamber orch at our school played this song- it was really good.

  • wow good job

  • dang. awesome piece, but whatever orchestra played this played it like extremely fast compared to what we did in my orchestra class. gotta love holst! :D

  • Yeah tell me about it. This is way too fast for my liking.

  • hooray for the Viola part! Only song we actually get a solo here.

  • Yeah! It's brilliant - we get several! And we actually get the melody for a large part of it which is also sort of unusual...

Another performance of this next Wednesday - so excited!

  • I SAY VIOLAS FOR THE WIN! really annoying though because some people don't even know what one is. I HATE EXPLAINING IT TO THE NOOBS.

  • @azzazin404 Though I don't play Viola, I totally agree. GO VIOLA AND VIOLIN!!! XD

  • @azzazin404 WORD!!!!!!!! FOR REAL! You play I play I love it soo much we have a sound that violins can't dream of and that the best of cello's can't match.

    (Except for maybe yoyo ma!!)

  • @azzazin404 "Why do you think it would be better for me to take piano lessons as opposed to viola lessons?"

"Well, everyone plays piano, so it would be really weird if you didn't, but almost no one plays the... what's that thing called again???"

  • @azzazin404 I know! I play viola classically and independently, and everyone - including bands I play with - simply cannot get it through that "viola" is NOT a fancy word for "violin".

  • @azzazin404 yah u rock caus u mentioned violas and i play one

  • @azzazin404 INDEED. VIOLA PLAYERS UNITE!

  • This is cool!

I'm performing this next Saturday on viola! We are using the exact same score (I can tell by the numbers and other features). Thanks for posting it - really helps to see how the parts fit together (I've adjusted my playing).

This piece is so, so much fun! :-D

Can't believe it's so fast though! I am in complete and total shock...

  • i love this!!! i played this song last year! XD

  • omg i likie this song i used to have the parts i play double bass im going to play this in my 2nd concert of my school year i like the finale part upload it!!!

  • great work. c:

    If you have the score, could you also put up the Intermezzo and the Dargasson? o3o;

  • Holst was music teacher at the posh private school for girls - st Paul's. He wrote this suite for their string orchestre (cf Vivaldi in Venice!)

  • Great music! It reminds me of Peter Warlock's Capriol Suite.

  • we played this at disney hall! omg it sounded amazing i love this piece :D

  • the last part would be amazing......por favor?

  • there is a video on youtube that has a song that i want to learn... its kind of liie a duet for two violins.. it just says celtic violins duet.. do yo8u think you have the score for that
