Even though the movie was lame loved this scene where Reba was singing while North (played by Elijah Wood) had a look on his face during the whole song like he was thinking these people were just plain nuts.
I fecking lolled so hard at this, not because the jokes are funny, but because it's so hilariously bad! And the Bonanza theme song is still catchy xP Also, Dan Akroyd's Trollface at the end makes me rofl XD
nothing good about this song, it is irritating and stereotypical, even when not in the movie it is still a suicide to hear.
If you want a song that can have a second chance instead of this joke, pick "we can do anything" from the Garbage Pail Kids movie because it is definately much better than this.
I love that Wood had the perfect reaction to the song. Sheer terror. There is no other logical way to react when your foster parents burst out into a fully choreographed song and dance number with all the servants.
@KingGekko Just like Alan Zweibel, who also had racial issues when writing this insult to my I.Q.. Seriously Zweibel, this isnt the road movies of the 30's/40's, like the nostalgia critic said, "READ A F***ING BOOK"
WORST SONG OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!! The Nostalgia Critic is right. Like I said Betty Lou looks like she's 18 years old. Those lyrics are so poorly written that would make Alan Menken's puke a masterpiece maker, This movie is so hurtful and offensive it would make Martin Luther King Jr.,Gandhi, and other equal right leaders rolling in their graves. Am I right?
THAT IS JUST CRUEL AND OFFENSIVE AT THE SAME TIME. WHY WOULD DAN ACKROYD AND REBA MCENTREE BRING THEMSELVES TO SUCH A HUGE LOW! ALSO THEY WANT NORTH TO MARRY BESY LOU WHI IS OLDER THAN HIM???!!! THAT IS REALLY REALLY REALLY FUCKED UP.
I always thought they were implying that the texans were fattening up their son to eat him, and were disappointed that he died in a stampede instead...and that's where the joke was.
I must be the only person on the planet who derived some genuine, non-ironic entertainment from this film. Is it dumb, racist, shallow and pathetic? Yes, but I just can't resist an energetic song and dance, and lines like "you'll make pals with the buffalo gals"/"just leave some for me"/"hey there!"
From the genius who brought you Misery, Stand by Me, and The Secret of Nym. Comes a peice of cinema shit that ruins his whole reputation. I don't know what Rob Reiner was smoking to write this, but lets all hope he got brain damage for it.
@411314 Well, the lyrics are basically about how texas people only watch rodeos, eat, sing, and dance. The rest of the movie has stereotypes, but the creator dislike texan so much he made a song about them.
What the hell was Reba McEntire thinking using her incredible voice for this crap? Did Rob Reiner pull up to her house with a dump truck full of money?
Where THE HELL did this song even come from? I...I'm very lost...and disturbed. Elijah Wood's face pretty much sums up this song. I guess there's only one way of putting this, "Hello...song?"
The problem with the whole "it's the kid's imagination that dreamt up these awful stereotypes" is that you go through the whole movie not knowing that, so it's not like you suddenly become unoffended by everything when they reveal it. I see what they were trying to do, but it doesn't work. The whole "It was all a dream" thing rarely works in movies because it's an excuse for the writers to not resolve what was going on and makes pretty much the whole movie irrelevant.
I have to admit, if a bunch of Texans marched out from the sides wearing those getups and started singing and doing acrobatics and choreography, I'd have that 'wth!?' expression on my face, too
i think the only reason that song was there was cuz of reba... and the only reason y i looked this up was because of her, cuz she has an awesome singing voice :)
just because it's a kid dreaming it doesn't make this any better. so what, this dream about every possible conceivable stereotype you can imagine when they dream of what life in another family from another place might be like? do you know how racially and culturally insensitive some of the things in this movie are?
you cant slap a 'Kids Movie' sticker on stereotyping, and expect it to be OK because it was all in a kid's imagination
this may not be as bad, but it's the tip of the iceberg here
It's supposed to be over-the-top, the writers OBVIOUSLY knew they were playing out super insane stereotypes that were untrue...That's the whole point!
It was supposed to be kind of like a cartoon, only live-action. Therefore, everything was over-the-top and far from reality. :P
the stereotyping offends me. and I"m not the only one it offends. does this mean that because I find it offensive and you dont, and that it takes place in a fictional setting, all offense is automatically removed because it was unintended? you dont have to intend to offend someone to offend them, and social stereotyping can be just as offensive as gender or racial stereotyping.
I understand offense is subjective and varies from person to person, but I'm still offended, and wish to state as such
thank you. I'm glad we could come to a mutual understanding about this subject
yeah, that's really flawed logic, I agree. that's the bandwagon approach to the situation, pretty much, and you really need to take these things with a realistic approach rather than the 'Nostalgia Critic hates it so I hate it to' and purely run on that (though he handeled this subject quite well, too)
*thumbs up* as I said, it was a good debate, and I'm glad it could end on a note of mutual understanding
