  • what's with dubbing someone else's voice over R. G. Armstrong?

  • I can't believe that you actually foouuunnndd this version! Is it on DVD?

  • better than jersey shore

  • @ion010101 Watching a body decompose is better than watching "Jersey Shore"!

  • !978....when computer tape drives (and video switchers) were king.

  • Amusing oversight by presenter . He says 'Andrew Duggan as Worthington' when the cast credit clearly reads 'Andrew Duggan as Washington.'

  • i thought this movie was supposed 2 take place in the late 1800's.

  • @TheCowellable The book and the 1960 flic (as welllas the last movie in 2002) was indeed in the 1890's (the book was published in 1895), its just some folk can't keep their hands off a good thing.

  • That's one disco looking time machine.

  • HAY! THank you 78TimeMachine :)))

How refreshing! I saw this in the 70's and had forgotten all about it! (I love the Rod Taylor version but it's just so hokey I'm a little worn on it) Pretty much hated the 2002 remake.... what was THAT all about??

  • The thousand dollar movie lives on!

  • "the video channel" lol

  • This actuallu makes Riding with Death look good.

  • Mike Jittlov and George Pal did it far bettet.

  • It's like a Gerry Anderson Supermarionation feature only with less convincing performances

  • WEEEEENA

  • What a name "Weena" :D

  • Haha..."Where's it heading?" "Los Angeles, DEAD CENTER." Good.

  • Was this nominated for any major awards?

  • i am actually from the year 2036

  • Worthington??? or Washington?

  • Heaven knows no one finds financial backers for trash these days.

  • Very cool. Sci-fi will never die, and it started before the days of t.v. I have a sci-fi webisode. To get to it, check out our channel on youtube.

  • I remember seeing this when it first aired!

  • They just don't realise how DATED they'd look in years to come ffs

  • 240, we meet again -.-

  • Worthington? It reads Washington

  • @MaLoDe1975 I spotted that too, Whats that all about lol?

  • So faithful to the book

  • This Film Seems To Be Made in 1966 Not 1978 Directing seems older

  • Whit Bissel was in the original 1960 TIME MACHINE as well as the TIME TUNNEL. That lad got around. lol

  • Why does the 60s version look and sound better?

  • @dfer159632 haha exactly what i was thinking o.o

  • Love the 70's!!!

  • You chuckleheads mean to tell me you've had since 19 freekin' 78 to decide if it's "Worthington" or "Washington" and you have NOT? you Hollywood types are worthless....

  • We have two regular cast members from Irwin Allen's "Time Tunnel" and this isn't an Allen production? Somethings up with this.

  • This is frotte

  • Thank you. In all seriousness, I've been looking for this for 33 years.

  • I love 1970s sci-fi - they were cheesy productions but that is all that was available for sci-fi fans at the time. The TV executives still viewed sci-fi as Flash Gordon kids stuff and did not bother giving them much of a budget. Also, special effects were still primitive by today's standards and you needed theatrical movie budgets to make them look half way decent. With that said - watching this makes me feel like a kid in front of the TV again!

  • Looks like it butchers the plot. I'll give this a miss.

  • Oh, and it's ridiculously obvious here that RG Armstrong has been dubbed, and not very well.

Geez, this beginning is horrible. Bored me to tears even when I first saw it at four years old. Which community college classroom were the interiors filmed in?

  • @gpwerner I was going to bring that up (RG's voice) sounds awful

  • Wallace Bennett, you are a joke of a writer.

  • I thought that this would be better than 1960, but this is a joke

  • "This can't be 1978?? The whole production is typical 50's!"

  • 1:31 CCCP :O soviets . . .

  • @drnachos We're everywhere!

  • If anything can do it , its always going to be a "mega computer"

  • Yeah... i just got done watching the 2002 and 1960's version, and I ain't even gonna attempt to watch this piece of crap..

  • Does this mess have anything to do with the H.G. Wells book? It is certainly not an update of the 1960 movie. Oh well, I sit here spellbound unable to look away from this joke of a sci-fi flick.

  • I liked this movie. I've been looking for it for quite a while. Thanks for posting it Bro. Some never seem to be grateful.

  • Remember please that this was MADE FOR TELEVISION in 1978...

  • John Beck, 'Moon-pie' form the original Rollerball movie.

  • @jjalseth - And after seeing Beck in "The Big Bus" (1976), it was real hard for me to ever take him seriously, in a dramatic role again. Kind of like seeing Leslie Nielsen do a serious role, after all those comedies. Which he didn't. I don't think.

  • dang i didn't know they had video skype back then !

  • poor old Herbert wil be spinning in his grave

  • Gotta love it at 4:24 when the General says "You've Got to shave that"... to a man with a massive 1970's porn mustache.... it seems to be a recurring thing in this film!

  • oh lord.

  • Ah the 70's, a time of pot, bad clothes and questionable movies. I am not a star wars fan, but at least it jump started the next generation of film away from this sort of thing. Oh well, here we sit, it's awful yet we are mesmerized none the less. *grin* Its still rather fun to watch. hee hee

  • Why is it that every potential disaster heads for Los Angeles or New York? It's like Hollywood thinks that those are the only major cities in the U.S.

  • I LIKE THIS MOVIE WISH YOU CAN HAVE THE WHOLE MOVIE

SET IN SUCH A WAY WE FANS CAN DOWNLOAD IT ...

  • That time machine looks like a prop from a gameshow.

  • WHIT BISSELL is the only original cast member to repraise his role?? is alan young dead??

  • This looks like really bad TV from the seventies. Awful then, awful now. My time's too valuable.

  • alas h.g,

    alas h.g,

our world yet not deserveth thee!

  • I don't care how bad it is, anything to do with time travel is GOOD.

  • @maccagrabme It IS bad..and yet I can't look away...

  • @maccagrabme Absolutely!

  • @maccagrabme Donnie Darko -_-

  • I noticed that the actor WHIT BISSELL was also in this movie THE TIME MACHINE (1978). He was also in THE TIME MACHINE (1960) and he was also in THE TIME TUNNEL TV Series (1966-1967)

  • That general looks about a hundred

  • So how slow is that satelite falling?

  • Great special effects.

  • Pathetic. How on earth did they find financial backers for this kind of trash?

  • holy s**t,i remember one scene from when i was a kid,it has stuck in my mind ever since, ive been trying to find what it was for my whole life,no one could tell me what it was,cos i rememberd so little,i though it was battlestar galacitca, but i got the dvds and it wasent,i cant beleave it was the the time machine as im such a big fan of the book and 60s movie,i never knew this version

  • Priscella Barnes was in this movie before she was Teri Alden on Three's Company.

  • Why was R.G. Armstrong's (The General) voice dubbed, I wonder.

  • looove this version! n_n got it on vhs somewhere withthe 60's original!

  • this cracks me up...Whit Bissell is in this film, of course he also starred in the orginal "Time Machine", the one made in 1960.

And of course he also starred in the tv show "The Time Tunnel".

  • @whiskeyify

Yes he did star on The time tunnel as General Kirk not to be confused with Captain Kirk. TV shows created by Irwin Allen are: Voyage to the bottom of the sea, Lost in space, The time tunnel, and Land of the giants.

  • @AlanDMoore Watched all those shows growing up, I'm kind of an old guy here.

The four you name were my favorites.

  • @whiskeyify

i saw this and liked it. 1960 version was brilliant.

  • wtf is this. who are all these characters and why is weena the only whose name stays the same?

  • @ 0.26 seconds,WORTHINGTON?!Where'd they find that narrator?!It's WASHINGTON!!

  • 1960 version is the best movie ever will see if this version get any better

  • I saw this once when I was little. Glad I'll be able to watch it again finally.

  • Who made this disaster? The Morlocks.

  • If memory services me correctly, this "Time Machine" pilot was the only official kick-off for a possible "Classics Illustrated" series. (I have often suspected that the NBC productions of "House of Usher" and "Sleepy Hollow" were part of this particular intended series.) Nevertheless, the 1978 "Time Machine" was not a ratings winner, and as such, even in its own right, did not spawn an ongoing series.

  • yech

  • this is so irving allen...

  • Can someone please tell me more about the "Classics Illustrated" series? When did it air? What were some of the other episodes? I can't find any info. Thanks

  • why the heck did they use someone else's voice to dub R G Armstrong (General Harris)? That's not what he sounded like.

  • Funny to see a computer room full of people in white coats.

They got the flat screen right though.

  • What is this? I thought this was supposed to be The Time Machine. Why the fuck are they talking about some god damn Russian missile?

  • This was made during the cold war bewteen the soviet union and the usa and brittain.1945-1987 no one realy fought in this war but ther were plenty of bomb threats and spys leaking to secret info to russia this was a scary time during this perioid of History

  • I do understand that, but it's no excuse for butchering one of the great literary masterpieces by H.G. wells.

  • Thank you for uploading this.

  • the only redeeming actor here is the late, great whit bissell, who also appeared in the george pal classic

  • I would have LOVED to see MST3K take a crack at this one!

  • somehow they managed to make an even worse looking movie 18 years after the fact....wow lol

  • 0:25 lol It says Andrew Duggen as Washington when the narrator said Andrew Duggen as WORTHINGTON.

  • What a load of RUBBISH!!! And a STUPID cast. Absolutely no talent and as boring as you can get.

  • I remember watching this as an 8 year old in '78. I enjoyed it at the time. Yes, the production was bad since science fiction/fantasy was being measured by Star Wars but it was enjoyable enough for TV with a bowl of popcorn.

  • I always wondered where mark graison went???

  • moonpie!!!!

  • Was "Classics Illustrated" a regular series?

  • Was this one of those "Movies of the Week"? What network was it on? I was born in '78..

His outfit and hairstyle are great! I can't believe people actually wore clothes like that. :)

  • Ah, yes...the clothing of the Carter Years...what were people thinking? : )

  • @WestVirginiaRebel My brother-in-law had a blue leisure suit, I've seen pictures! :)

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for posting this version of the time machine.

  • No, Sorry in Timecop 2!

  • This guy with the mustache he was playing in the "Timecop" 1994 film with Jean-Claude Van Damme.

  • WOW! I just got done watching the original Time Machine. Hollywood really knows how to butcher a classic don't they. SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!

  • Well to be fair it was meant to be like the new Journey to the Centre of the Earth, kinda like a ret con but keeping some of the old elements

  • YES! I know it's not the best movie...but it's so fun to watch!!

I love the NEARLY 80's ALMOST special FX's....I'd take them over anything made nowadays!

    Thanks:)

  • I remember this

  • Starring Andrew Duggan as "Worthington"

while subtitle says "Washington" LUV IT!

  • Looks like one of those productions where the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing.

  • @scotpens yup, cheapie quickie tv land:)

  • O.O

  • Priscilla Barnes, wasn't she on Three's Company?

  • Ayep! And gorgeous she was in her day!

  • omg can it be that i actually saw this in its original airing and time has lent me the favor of forgetting it? thanks for uploading this, i dig NORADS flat panel screens!

  • Did anyone else notice the announcer say "Andrew Dugan" as "Wortherington" ?..but it says "Washington"..on the title for his name

  • Yeah shows how awful this show was.How could a goof like that get thru ?

  • @bpp1965 The time traveller clearly stepped on a butterfly back in the age of dinosaurs and changed the alphabet.

  • @bpp1965 yep

  • @bpp1965 I noticed that i was like WTF?!?!

  • opasgrandson1.....shitty handle name...if it was such a trauma for you....why search it out at all on youtube..unless it stuck in your brain and you have to this day a secret hardon for this movie......by the way....grrreat fxxing movie....just entertainment......your life must have been a terrible mess in the 70's...

  • Judging by your hysterical, gratuitously insulting, potty-mouthed reaction, youre either a badly raised teenager or an adult who still talks like a badly raised teenager. Even a bad movie deserves a better defense than this.

  • Because it's hilarious in its badness.

  • This movie is worse than I remembered, and I remembered it was horrible (which is to say, fairly typical for TV science fiction in the 1970s).

Who's dumber in Part 1? The scientist hero who knowingly works for a major military contractor, but waxes indignant when he's asked to design a bomb? Or his boss, who literally can't imagine the usefulness of time travel to his military and intel customers?

  • Saw this on philly 57 back in te early/mid 80's.

  • The "time machine" in this movie looks like an uninspired abomination.

  • Nice haven't seen this since a kid in the 70's

  • This version was not that bad...I enjoyed it more then the most recent one.
