@TheCowellable The book and the 1960 flic (as welllas the last movie in 2002) was indeed in the 1890's (the book was published in 1895), its just some folk can't keep their hands off a good thing.
How refreshing! I saw this in the 70's and had forgotten all about it! (I love the Rod Taylor version but it's just so hokey I'm a little worn on it) Pretty much hated the 2002 remake.... what was THAT all about??
You chuckleheads mean to tell me you've had since 19 freekin' 78 to decide if it's "Worthington" or "Washington" and you have NOT? you Hollywood types are worthless....
I love 1970s sci-fi - they were cheesy productions but that is all that was available for sci-fi fans at the time. The TV executives still viewed sci-fi as Flash Gordon kids stuff and did not bother giving them much of a budget. Also, special effects were still primitive by today's standards and you needed theatrical movie budgets to make them look half way decent. With that said - watching this makes me feel like a kid in front of the TV again!
Oh, and it's ridiculously obvious here that RG Armstrong has been dubbed, and not very well.
Geez, this beginning is horrible. Bored me to tears even when I first saw it at four years old. Which community college classroom were the interiors filmed in?
Does this mess have anything to do with the H.G. Wells book? It is certainly not an update of the 1960 movie. Oh well, I sit here spellbound unable to look away from this joke of a sci-fi flick.
@jjalseth - And after seeing Beck in "The Big Bus" (1976), it was real hard for me to ever take him seriously, in a dramatic role again. Kind of like seeing Leslie Nielsen do a serious role, after all those comedies. Which he didn't. I don't think.
Gotta love it at 4:24 when the General says "You've Got to shave that"... to a man with a massive 1970's porn mustache.... it seems to be a recurring thing in this film!
Ah the 70's, a time of pot, bad clothes and questionable movies. I am not a star wars fan, but at least it jump started the next generation of film away from this sort of thing. Oh well, here we sit, it's awful yet we are mesmerized none the less. *grin* Its still rather fun to watch. hee hee

Yes he did star on The time tunnel as General Kirk not to be confused with Captain Kirk. TV shows created by Irwin Allen are: Voyage to the bottom of the sea, Lost in space, The time tunnel, and Land of the giants.
If memory services me correctly, this "Time Machine" pilot was the only official kick-off for a possible "Classics Illustrated" series. (I have often suspected that the NBC productions of "House of Usher" and "Sleepy Hollow" were part of this particular intended series.) Nevertheless, the 1978 "Time Machine" was not a ratings winner, and as such, even in its own right, did not spawn an ongoing series.
Can someone please tell me more about the "Classics Illustrated" series? When did it air? What were some of the other episodes? I can't find any info. Thanks
