Hey BYP nice book review I have put that text in my wish list. The copying of texts and themes as "confirming" is a little risky and subjective depending on the group. In such a case one idea may be confirmed from the old and highlighted more, on the other hand others which are just as important are left out. Also at times Pesherism is used liberally at times to justify the means to an end by certain belief systems.
what I mean is that everyone borrows and claims to confirm the past but with a different twist. In the dead sea scrolls for example.they were dealing with what they seen as a profaned and ineffective system in the mainstream of Judaism and they tried to correct the issues using the some of the main themes while leaving others out. Many do the same today same today. So I ask, What did they keep and why? And what was changed and why?
Yes! That is actually the major impetus of Biblical studies come to think of it! What did remain and what did change, and why? That's the reason things are usually very exciting to read on the scrolls and scriptures. We Mormons add another dimension with the Book of Mormon and Book of Abraham.
I can't disagree with ya much on this Wayman. Interpretation is usdually pretty darn subjective. But as Barbara Tuchman, one of America's major historians noted, Subjectivity is a necessity in the historical enterprise of learning and recognizing significance in historical events. It's fun to learn about all major facets of Biblical studies though. I sure enjoy your own vids and remarks on your channel also!
I'm sure that Nephi and Lehi didn't go around saying, "get thee up the ladder to get thou wife before she befallest into the lake before you midst. What has beholden though? Get the hence!" I think that Joseph would have had less controversy if he had stayed away from King James language as that wasn't even the way they spoke in his day.
Everyone in their day used the major Bible language, which was the King James. Even Dead Sea Scrolls translations right now use it! And this in the 1990's! LOL! The scholars haven't gotten away from it, anymore than Smith did. And this is how it should be.
I don't get this one Backyard. The DSS was written in Hebrew with some Greek manuscripts. The translation that you are reading may be in the kings english. You really believe that god finds it irreverent if I pray in todays English rather than the kings language? I would think that god would be more of a hebrew god than kings english anyway. I'm not trying to be disrespectful just trying to understand and relate to yours and others points of view.
I pray in the Kings english, anything less would be a bit familiar, and border on irreverence. The same goes for scripture. God is more of thee, thy, thine or thou, than you.
How many rooms do you have in your House! You seem to popup in a new room every video:)
Can you Show the book cover pls.
Kerry I am learning so much from you, I'm so glad that I can glen so much from your study of books you are one cool JackaRoo ( Ausi term for Cowboy). I have about five or six books on the deadSea Scrolls Solving the mysteries of the D.S.S. Eward M. Cook.
Gods words are only new in the sense of, the age of the ears they fall upon.

I do't think God hears prayers said with words. I think He/She looks at the heart.

That would make more sense.
