  • huh intresting

  • @andyrevell The Camouflage mechanism is called the Chameleon Circuit!

  • So many police boxes, but where is The Doctor?

  • England is tthe best country in the world.

  • The Doctor didn't "invent" the TARDIS. It was a Gallifreyan plant. The only reason it was a Police Box is because the Camouflage Mechanism got stuck that way.

  • @andyrevell In the movie DR. Who and the Daleks, it wasn't the DOCTOR, it was played by Peter Cushing and he was human and he invented the TARDIS. So it wasn't exactly based off the TV show

  • 3:37-3:49 It burns!! Why God why?!

  • That Police Box at 2:26 looks different from all the rest - more streamlined. Why is that?

  • Which Story is that where William Hartnall puts the out of order sign on the tardis and the police man thinks it's a real police box

  • @mufcgazza2k7 The War Machines

  • @doctorwholu Kool the hartnall storys aint got round to watching yet i have seen a few troughton ones but i like all the jon pertwee episodes but this is where it all started great clip lol

  • Really the Dalek Movies never really happened in The Whoniverse, it was Omega who invented the TARDIS. The Doctor is a TimeLord, not an old, human inventor!

  • I can imagen children 5 years before, running in a police box and wasting police time, just check if it was the TARDIS, I would of...

  • I hate the home secretary!!!!!!!, seeing those scenes where the Police Boxes were smashed was heartbreaking..........

  • police boxes were the best things ever

  • So 1969 was when people began being stupid...

  • when they destroyed it i was like NNOOOOOOOOO!!!

  • This was produced and directed by Ralph Montagu in 1993. Sadly the archive is too expensive to be considered for DVD release.

  • Colin Baker did a great job narrating this story.

  • I got to say I found that pretty interesting, I'm from the US so we never had them. I sure didn't realize that they were so varied and different. I actually found the history of them very fascinating, especially their role in WWII.

  • i'd say..."time" to unpack a modern version ;-)

  • I can't believe that they were destroying them in 1969. That was Patrick Troughton's last season as the Doctor, so wouldn't Police Boxes be like, really popular with everyone by then?

  • There was recent talk of them comming back with updated equipment around the perimeter of the Queens abode. But the Idea was dismisted I think.

  • I wish that the 1969 The Home Secretary hadn't destroyed the police boxes..

  • nice bit of history. = )

  • Whoever the Home Secretary was back in 1969 needs Exterminating !!!!!!!!! . . . .. assuming if he / she is still alive today , cos that Idiot should never have ordered them destroyed , they are as Iconic as the Tardis Console Room Features , all thanks to Doctor Who .

I read something once that said they where coming back , but would be up to date with new Technology . Doesint seem like it thou cos i havint seen any new ones at all since i read about it ! .

  • They brought one new one out in the mid 1990s at Earls Court Station. Instead of a lamp on the roof it had a CCTV camera. The idea was then scrapped as it was too expensiva and they are no longer practical.

  • Yeah , ive seen Photo's of that one , ive never actually been to Earls Court Station so i can see it myself , but one day i hope too .

God i wish Police Box's where back thou up and down the Country . Us Doctor Who Fan's would be right sodding happy with glee !!!!!!!! .

  • In 1969 The Home Secretary made a "foolish" decision. To much brandy and arrogance I suspect!

  • @ytbigjim Watching them tear down (demolish) that one Police box made me extremely sad.

  • I really hope they don't bring them back. The TARDIS just wont be unique!

  • Cooooooooooooooooooool!!

    5 big ones!

  • I was almost in tears when they showed the workmen tearing apart that one box.

I wonder if this will be on the upcoming Dalek Wars DVD boxset.

  • @doctorwho03 That's only because you suddenly realised it was not bigger on the inside!

  • Planet of the Daleks. Sooo, wouldn't that be Skaro?

  • Comment removed

  • Actually that story takes place on Spiridon!

  • very informative

espeisly to someone, such as myself, who lives in the USA and has no idea about the history of police boxes

but the doctor without his strange blue box would be nothing.

  • Very informative clip. There's still a "Tardis" model police box in Earls Court in London. I was amazed to see it.

  • It would be so cool if they brought them back

again. I hear the Scots are starting to bring

their old ones back in to use. They were canny enough to keep many of them.

  • Fantastic! You may be interested to know there's a new petition for the return of the

Police Box on UK streets. It's on the Number 10 website.

  • 0:32, he makes it sound like a religion. Dummy.

  • Colin did well this.

  • Hi, I love this vid being a Doctor Who fan! I have just come back from Edinburgh where there are loads of these Police Boxes!!! I loved taking some pics of them! I just wish that they could be put back into use as it seems such a shame to let them go to waste like seems to be happening up there! Thanks again for such a cool vid!

    Best wishes

    Leigh Ann

  • Hi Leign , my names Jason and just like you , i myself am a big Doctor Who fan , and a fan of Police Boxes , i was wondering if you could tell me if theres a website where i could view pictures of these no longer in use Police Boxes that you love taking photos of .

    Cheers , Jason .

  • Theres a gallery of police box pics on the Immanuel Burton photograpy website, Jason.

Just Google his name and the word police box.

  • Hi Leigh , Im afraid i dont have a My Space page , i think thats just a waste of time , however i do have a Hotmail E-mail address but if i typed it up here on this comment then god knows who im going to get E-mails from , so im not going to mention my E-mail address , sorry , but on the other hand your not a person with a sad life , the world is full of old and unusal interesting things like Police Boxes that havint been used in years , be proud of what you do ! .

    Cheers , Jason .

  • hiya Leighanne. tODAY LOADS OF THESE BOXES ARE USED AS SMALL COFFE kIOSKS!

I find them facinating but I have a weird phobia of them! dont ask.....:)

  • this was great, thanks heaps for posting!! there was a lot of info I never knew. funny seeing police officers emerging from police boxes like they're Time Lords from 'The Bill'. and fitting that footage from the 60s survives IN COLOUR of men bashing down the police boxes - indicative of the loss of Hartnell and Troughton archives!!!

  • Big thanks

  • i dont think they should have used the dalek movie footage! it was totaly unrelated

  • yeah

  • correct me if i'm wrong, but iirc that was the only explanation of the tardis conducted outside of the tardis. which would be an excellent reason to use it, in spite of its other short-comings.

  • I'm a longtime Doctor Who fan and never knew any of this!thanks and well-done.

  • POTD was shown on BBC 2 in Scotland - nice to see the BBC 1 England versions!!

  • like he said, nice vid rob!

  • Very informative! Thank you for posting.
