  • Lovely video ans well done with what your doing with him. thanks for shareing :)

  • How do you know exactly what behavior the horse thinks it is being rewarded for? For example... you reward for head down but perhaps the horse is giving head down and at the same time staring at the ground directly in front of itself. So it thinks it is being rewarded for staring at the ground while it walks but you are rewarding for the head down. Does that question make sense?

  • this is a genuine question not a criticism so no body go crazy at me k lol.

are u clicking it while it is trotting with its head lowered, then halting to give the treat? or are u just halting and treating? cos would that not just make the horse think that it is being treated for the halt? does it know that u are treating it for the low head carriage at the trot?

i dont know alot about clicker training so im not trying to sound like i know all and u are wrong just trying to learn a bit bout it

  • Nice work Kim. I can definitely see where you're heading to with this.

  • For those who are wanting to learn, I chose to use Clicker Training with my Arab, because he had been started badly with traditional training methods. He was tuned out and disengaged emotionally after having been ill-started and then ignored for years in a pasture.

Some horses need different motivations to accept humans again. Which is a sad commentary on humans.

  • I've been watching many of your videos today--I would love to explore more with clicker training and I'd like to see if I can help some of the horses with their behaviors/training at my barn.

  • Kim - I've been doing this with my own high-headed, fear reactive Arab/QH cross. Clicker training does work!

  • Because first you have to have the trust from your horse. A reactive horseis not thinking about food. He only wants to survive. I personaly don't use a clicker with my horses because thats not what motivates them.I sugest giving your horse the safety she needs first before trying to motivate with other things

  • Blazingava,Put pdj47 in a youtube search & see how horses are trained without spoiling them with treats.

  • I don't spoil my horses by giving them treats as I said I don't even use clicker training. My horses respect me enough to know not to push me all over for a cookie. But they gladly accept when I give them one and offer to do it again. Don't you dare tell me how to train my horses. I'm no idiot

  • It must be nice to have nothing left to learn!

  • Wait did I say that...wow no I didn't. Just because I don't need and idiots advice doesn't mean I have nothing to learn. It means I have nothing to learn from you. Unless that is I want to know what NOT to be like.

  • Blazingava,You seem to have kind of a nasty temper & an unwillingness to learn. Your not going to make it as a trainer.

  • Ok you don't know me. Thats a good thing I don't want to know you I'd probably end up killing you if I did because you're a pain in the ass. But until you know me don't you dare tell me I won't make it. I'll be a better horseman than you. Ha I'm probably already there now.

  • If you don't feed it every 50 feet dose it turn around & bite you?

  • No you can see she is balancing clicker training with good language and leadership. So it ends up not all about the treat.

  • @BlazingAva wow u seriously do not understand clicker training! u should do a bit of reasearch before u go fireing off nast coments! clicker training is a great tool keep up the good work Ksturg8929!

  • Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!!
