Usually most people use "sony vegas" or "adobe after effects" or "final cut pro" (final cut pro is Mac only)

But those are not free, unless you get them illegally.. which many people still do, you can find videos on youtube how to get those illegally if you really wanted to do that.

or you could use "windows movie maker" or "imovie" (depends if you have a windows or mac)

as for linux... i don't know, maybe you could use any.
