City was doing pretty well until Moses started buying up all the rural and small-town ex-CTV and CBC affiliates across Canada. He stretched City too thinly and couldn't cover it all.
CTV/Rogers pounced and thus was the end of independent TV in Canada. (Although City's editorializing in news items got really tiresome by the 2000s.)
Oh man, forgot about this one, kinda liked the other one more, but yeah.....cityTV and even the CBC were way better back then. How I miss the 90's........ and RIP Mark Dailey.
Growing up in the 1990's, I did feel and think CityTV was Canada's superstation. It did have a unique feel which others didn't have. CityTV had the best news show, great TV shows and was definitely the best in Canada for movies. Oh how I miss the past! I knew about this channel better than the others because my parents were always watching it.
@cmchomyn City Tv started its decent when the Board Of Directors gave Moses Znaimer the boot a few years prior to Rogers buying them. It is now less then the empty shell of it's former greatness.
@maddogmcrae From what I've researched around the internet, City started to decline even before he (MZ) was forced out. (dating around a few years or so.)
even the afternoon and late-night movies had to go...in favor of what? judge joe brown, "american gladiators" reruns and flavor flav (on late nights)? or "the OC" and bonnie hunt (in the afternoon)?! geez...sure, they still have a movie block on saturday nights (9pm), but it isn't the same hodge-podge of "great movies" anymore. :(
yeah and when they play movies there the more recent crappy ones. I recall when they were like showcase and played movies uncut during prime time but enough of my rant lol

It's all left to CHCH Hamilton now. By some miracle they're independent now. The tradition will continue, despite all odds.

I agree, ever since Rogers bought CityTV from Chum, it's gone downhill.

@ZoneCountry That was when he started to lose control (after partnering with CHUM Ltd. to get some extra cash), then the slow decline started.
