if a P plater spots another P plater on the road they instantly try to race each other or show off. Especially if it's a male driver. If it's just a lone P plater they will 95% of the time drive as well as any open license driver. i myself am on red P's and find this is the case every time I drive. the big letter "P" on a car is just a huge beacon and probably causes more accidents than it saves. just my 2 cents.

Riding a motorbike in itself makes you a temporary Australian, but talking to a camera rather than concentrating on the road makes you a stupid temporary Australian. -With regards to talking on the mobile phone, these drivers have only been driving for 1-3 years, they do not have the necessary experience to deal with distractions and drive.

Here in the UK we don't have anything like that. Although they are trying to pass a law where you can learn to drive at 17 but not take your test until you are 18 (you have to have a certain amount of hours on the road too).
Which is equally as stupid. I passed my test in a month, first go on the theory and practical.
Yet I know others are on their 6th practical because they keep failing.

We also have a rule that states if you get 6 points on your licence within the first 6 month you have to retake your test. (Which is fair)
3 points for speeding (30mph over and its an instant ban), 3 points for reckless driving etc, 3 points for no road tax and 3 points for no insurance.

i got defected for my exhaust being 10mm to low (the cop actually went a got a little rolly thing that was 100mm to test my whole car for legal height. (what difference does a low car have, if done right it will only make the car handle better) i also got defected for having no front grill (another point of my license gone) and another point for having a different gear stick.....tell me how that makes any fucking sense.. thats my rant lol

P platers in Canberra can drive V8's, turbocharged, supercharged and all :) plus we can do a one of P's test which means we don't need to wear a P plate when driving. Canberras a shithole but the licensing here is really good. :) But everything you stated in this video is so true.

All the P plate does is make you stand out to the police. I reckon the P stands for "Pull me over and Pick on me" as for the power restrictions on cars, it makes no difference. What I think sucks most of all is that any modification that increases a car's performance makes it a high powered vehicle. Power to weight isn't even considered in Victoria. Right now I'm looking for a replacement motor for my car, but I can't find a single one. If it weren't for the new "high powered vehicle" law, I'd just buy a Cressida for like 500 bux and have heaps of parts available (not to mention, better fuel economy). Im in a situation where im on my red P's and rely on driving to get to school. I take my mate who lives next door but when my another friend broke his arm and couldnt drive, i was asked if i could take him to school since he had no other way of getting there. i was stuck with what to do coz one of them would end up missing out and having no way of getting to school. (public transport doesnt go anywhere near the school.) Why cant they make specific times when there restrictions come into play?

I don't know what age you have to be to get your P's in Victoria, but here in NSW, it's 17 to get your reds, and 18 to get your greens.
Meaning you can't go to pubs until you're on your greens, anyway.
So his scenario is pretty stupid, unless the age is different in Victoria.
Point is, Red P platers are more easily influenced than that of any other driver, being younger, having bigger ego's etc.
It's a pretty logical, no matter how inconvenient.

Riding a motorbike in itself makes you a temporary Australian, but talking to a camera rather than concentrating on the road makes you a stupid temporary Australian. The laws are there to protect young drivers. Thats all there is to it. Anyone who disagrees with them doesn't value the young lives. Most will do it there, get the taste for it, think they are a the king of drift, and want to take it out to the road because they managed to handle their car in a wide empty street.
If they are stopped from trying it at all, they're less likely to think they are king shit at it, therefore, less likely to do it on the roads.

We started the survey as a joke (thinking we'd be proved wrong) but through NSW, VIC & SA, the number of L & P drivers increased (every year, more L/P drivers), the number of fatalities (involvind L/P drivers, and their passengers) decreased...

These laws are there as Provisional drivers are inexperienced.
-With regards to talking on the mobile phone, these drivers have only been driving for 1-3 years, they do not have the necessary experience to deal with distractions and drive.
-The one person law (in nsw is after 10pm) is due to the fact that drivers are more likely to get peer pressure to do stupid things,( i dont totally agree with this)
- Alcohol law- any alcohol in the system reduces your reaction times and this has been proven

It's a very interesting point about the drink driving situation due to passengers - I hadn't actually thought of that before. That's pretty bad! I hope they realise that and fix the law. If they try and chase every tiny risk with driving to reduce any possibility that something could go wrong, we will end up with a totally impractical system! Here in the UK we don't have anything like that. Although they are trying to pass a law where you can learn to drive at 17 but not take your test until you are 18 (you have to have a certain amount of hours on the road too).
Which is equally as stupid. I passed my test in a month, first go on the theory and practical.
Yet I know others are on their 6th practical because they keep failing.
Why should us quick learners suffer?

@redwhiteblue91 Oh, and another restriction we have is a 2 year probation after passing your test. Which means there is not allowed to be any alcohol on your breath.
We also have a rule that states if you get 6 points on your licence within the first 6 month you have to retake your test. (Which is fair)
3 points for speeding (30mph over and its an instant ban), 3 points for reckless driving etc, 3 points for no road tax and 3 points for no insurance.
So its pretty easy to rack them up!

i got defected for my exhaust being 10mm to low (the cop actually went a got a little rolly thing that was 100mm to test my whole car for legal height. All the P plate does is make you stand out to the police. I reckon the P stands for "Pull me over and Pick on me" as for the power restrictions on cars, it makes no difference. Because when you're eventually fully licensed and get a powerful car, you are still inexperienced in terms of handling that power, so once again pointless. What I think sucks most of all is that any modification that increases a car's performance makes it a high powered vehicle. Power to weight isn't even considered in Victoria. Right now I'm looking for a replacement motor for my car, but I can't find a single one. If it weren't for the new "high powered vehicle" law, I'd just buy a Cressida for like 500 bux and have heaps of parts available (not to mention, better fuel economy). I just really wish they'd bring the power to weight ratio rule back

I agree with alot of what you have said however
1. The 0 BAC is actually good because it discourages drinking all together whereas full licence drivers think well if i have a couple i should be right in an hour or so whereas P platers wont drink at all at the slightest risk of being over the limit
2. The P plate i agree with being a badge of honour however it also allows cops to target and in most cases RBT the driver

The only rule that applies to P platers in NSW is that we can't drive with anymore the 1 person under the age of 25 after 11pm but then apparently we have to be off the road by 2am unless we are on our way home from work.

Im in a situation where im on my red P's and rely on driving to get to school. I take my mate who lives next door but when my another friend broke his arm and couldnt drive, i was asked if i could take him to school since he had no other way of getting there. i was stuck with what to do coz one of them would end up missing out and having no way of getting to school. (public transport doesnt go anywhere near the school.) Why cant they make specific times when there restrictions come into play?

I just got off my P plates, and while i do agree with some of the stuff you say the reality is that as far as inexperienced drives go, the law is trying to decrease the amount of distractions there are... i can see the logic behind most of the laws like the 1 person limit, i mean sure it is an inconvenience but the reality is your less likely to get involved in situations where a 'gang mentality' comes into play when theres only two of you...

you are only allowed one person under the age of 25 after 11pm on your red p's which i do agree with in a way as it prevents the person with very little experience being persuaded into doing stuff they don't want to do...
