The only profitable model I can currently think of is in which the receiver gives in enough e-mails which eventually get spammed by ads.

Let's see:

1. a new xbox 360 costs around 250-350$ depending on the spec.

2. spam messages get by average 100$ for each 10000 messages. even if the system is refferal based, it'd take a year until they get back the money.

Which leads us to the conclusion that ruiqi is right of course.
