I loved every part of the series and I doubt any series will leave a mark on me as this had. I just want to set time aside to watch it all again in say 2 - 3 years and I WILL make my kid watch this when he gets a bit older ;)
It was people and metal, or blood and chrome. No fancy shields, lasers, idealized societies or the CIC/bridge crew being the front line soldiers. The whole show embodied society as a whole unified against an enemy, and still with their past to hinder them. Warriors fight, people squabble and it was lifechanging by experiencing it.
Thank you Ronald Moore and all the others that brought it to us. TY for this tribute as well
@GangsterHutterite i always realized why i disliked Trek, this show just put it in pictures. If 2000 engineers working at Starfleet for 10 years come up with the best engine ever, how does Jordi or Scotty modify it in 5 minutes for 25% more power??
This whole show had 1 piece of new tech, the stealth fighter, and 3 races, Humans, Cylons, and the hybrid....that was all they needed. Guns fired bullets, people hid behind armor....
when i watched this for the first time, every time. it gave me a feeling of being home. kinda nerdy sounding and lame i know but every Episode i watched made me feel that way. and if NASA is paying attention this is what a space ship better look like in 500 years or im coming back to haunt your asses
@musclecarkid86 I will not give away any spoilers except to say that this finale' has been the center point of much debate. Let's just say that I enjoyed every aspect of this series up and UNTIL the last half hour of the finale. After that I used my imagination to create an alternative ending. I hope that sparks enough interest for those who have not seen the finale to watch it.
Man, seeing Galactica fly into the Sun with the fleet she protected since the beginning of the series was just EPIC! That was the ending of the series for me right there (I did watch the rest of the episode, don't think I mean what I say too literally) but that's just how it was for me. After all, the name of the ship is the name of the series.
I wanna pretend that Anders didn't follow orders, and that the Galactica has just sat too close to the sun for us to see for the past 150,000 years. :P All we gotta do is find it and we have thousands of years of technological advancement right there! (lol, if only)
@TheRogueX the series was only suppose to last 4 seasons and. and after the final battle the technology will not be on good enough condition to reverse engineer. and the ship was literally falling apart it wouldn't survive any more battles.
@Crusnik2000 Actually, if you do your homework, you'll find that they were expecting 5th season so they could finish their story. When they weren't given that last season, they had to rush everything and that's why the 4th season feels so cramped.
As for the ship, it had PLENTY of systems capable of being reverse engineered, even with all the battle damage. A system does not need to be 100% functional (or even 100% complete) in order for us to study it and reconstruct it.
@TheRogueX Ron Moore wanted to start and end the series on his own terms. and according to the sources that i found there wasn't 5th season planed. but i will concede on your point about reverse engineering the technology from the ship. we would have to agree to disagree if there should have been a 5th season
@TheRogueX whats to reverse engineer since the ship and the rest of the colonial fleet was sent into the sun to put an end to the cycle (you know what cycle i'm talking about)...it was no longer necesary to run since the cylons were wiped out (except for the rebels) and they found a lush world ideal to settle on and begin anew
@TheRogueX I was doing some research lately and I found an incident where the soviets shot down one of our U2. While they recovered the pilot they never could reverse engineer the technology from the plane. or recover any useful information about the plane. the only thing that they could do is display the wreckage. The story is rather interesting. Note one piece of Technology that the Soviets were able to reverse engineer was the sidewinder missile. AKA the K-13 Atoll Missile
Long live the memory of one of the greatest starships in recent scifi history. She did her duty, and carried her crew and charges into safety (well most of them anyway). I salute you Battlestar Galactica /o.
Long live the memory of one of the greatest starships in recent scifi history. She did her duty, and carried her crew and charges into safty (well most of them anyway). I salute you Battlestar Galactica /o.
@notluzn Yeah, but that is because all sci fi showes have completly diferent laws of phisics. some have lazers and need to be aerodynamic in space, others have energy sheilds and tracot beams... You cant compar them. But she was a beast in this show.
@ethan1142028 Laser are plenty realistic enough. Trouble is, in real life, their overpowered by far. Throw, say 600MW into one, and it would burn through 20-ish metres of steel in a few seconds from 800,000km away.
@notluzn true, but in star trek and star wars they had energy shields, usually when there are energy shields the hulls are not so tough as basic, but galactica was designed in a sci fi series without shields, so she had a tough as hell hull :)
@JohnCarpenterFan2701 SGU can at least come back one day. I like the fact that they managed to bring BSG to an end rather than ending it with a cliff hanger such as Atlantis..

@quidda1 replying to myself with quotes it evoked....
on warriors "they stand on a wall and say, 'noone will hurt you tonight, not on my watch' " (from A Few Good Men)
on fighting "the deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle" Gen.J Pershing (you may be able to nuke them, but can you fight them?)
If you know both yourself and your enemy, you can win numerous battles without jeopardy.
Sun Tzu- Art of War....they had to discover themselves to win
