I grew up listening to this guy. I'm 16 now. I remember when I was little, every time my Dad played Stevie in the car, I'd play air-guitar and sing along to him. I'd call him the 'guitar man'.
is raining here in so cal and i think this is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard on a rainy day, absolutely amazing, stevie played from his heart and you can hear that in every note played
@KeysOfMyMind Keys, you know what's also so interesting to ponder? The contribution of atheists (Stevie Ray wasn't one of them) to the world. It's amazing, for one thing, to consider all the hospitals and schools atheism has built. And the legacy of peace and moral codes atheists leave to their children, for another.
@KeysOfMyMind KeysOfMyMind, do you REALLY want to get into a comparison of how many millions of people atheism (as espoused in a national government, which has been done time and again) has killed?
I can't stand Stevie's singing at all. But damn, his instrumentals are thee most beautiful things to come from a guitar. In my opinion, Stevie is the best blues guitarist of all time. It's such a shame he had to die. I hate to say this, but I'd be more partial to Clapton taking the fall than Stevie.
Riviera Paradise is my favorite S R V tune. hell it's my fav all time. then Little Wing, and Lenny. I would like them all played at my funeral also. ( disc on top shelf ) haha... Stevie may you rest in peace, see you when I get there.
To those wondering why someone might dislike this song, I can see reasons: I might dislike that Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead. I might dislike that it's only eight minutes and 56 seconds long and not longer because I want to hear more of it. I might dislike that there isn't anyone else who can play guitar like Stevie Ray did. Think outside the box, folks.
Anyone that dislikes this song lacks an ear for one of the greatest instumental Blues song ever recorded. I can listen to this song every day, and it never gets old.
@drakontas1 lol your right ....How could anyone not like this tune...I used to run a sports bar and the album was inthe jukebox. The first time I heard it I was "dammm this shit is hot!. I bought the cd on amazon.com for over $50.00 just for this song...
I so wished he would have made more instrumentals in his time nothing will ever sound so beautifull as this mans music ABSOLUTE ( PERFECTION & FLAWLESS ) R - I - P - SRV ---- ALL LOVE ^^^
@Maxharddrive64 Why do the best have to leave us so early? How many wonderful artists have left this life, just as they're sharing their souls with us? SRV is one of many musicians who have left such a beautiful legacy in their wake. I listen to this song, I hear him pour his soul into his music. He's gone, but he's still with me as I listen to it. R.I.P., SRV!
@TheBrendadale That abouts as close to putting in words as I feel...In my opinion he was just a vessel for music and when he played it was like the music just poured out of him. There are tons of musicians out there but only so many that were born to play.
Man this song proves stevie was way ahead of himself cause this has some jazzy feel to it and proves he is one of the best. Imagine what the possibilities could have made for him had he lived. But heres the big catch stevie will never ever die!
@MyDk2009 Check out a song by SRV called "Lenny". It's awesome. If you like instrumental blues guitarists, one of the finest you'll ever hear is Ronnie Earl. He has lots of great stuff on YouTube. Check him out.
When I first heard this instrumental, I knew this was a special arrangement by a special group of people .... As Stevie once said this is a song for anyone who is suffering ... this MUSIC is a healer .... Thank you SRV ...
@BUMPITTHISMASQUERADE I first heard this as I was channel surfing. Austin City Limits. MANY years ago. There was this guy pouring out his soul through his guitar. I was totally mesmorized! Found out is was SRV, Riviera Paradise (from the album In Step) . But this show was aired after he had died. I felt sad that such a talent was gone from us. But, happy to still have his beautiful music with us.
@TheBrendadale ..... we are all living in tough times, and I have found solace from this song in particular. On a happy note it was the love of a very special person in my late teens who had the foresight to share this style and type of music with me, and in doing so altered my life with music. From that moment I chose to be more open mind and curious, so Stevie, I owe you ......
@BlackDevilJayko dont question the almighty...bow in reverance you fuckin low life...he doesent take the shitty ones cause hes buildin upo to delive the awesome ones like stevieray....jesus....dont be so fuckin stupid
@arkee71 I don't bow down to anyone, and I question whoever i want! Specially if it's a mean, sadistic, megalomaniac , egocentric son of a bitch up in a magic cloud!
@Oldspirit189 Fuck you, I think whatever I want. This music is product from Stevie's great talent and dedication, there was no fucking imaginary force involved, don't give the credit to anyone else than SVR, idiot.
@brucetraeger Yea great guitarists and musicians always were and will be here. But among them some few are very special...magic to the point of hypnotic. Somehow they hit deep and make you forget the world around. Stevie was one of those and I don’t know many like him
I remember 20yrs. ago my local pbs station would sign off at night with this song.I could'nt go to sleep untill I heard it.Something about this song just puts your soul right.Grateful I got to hear him live.We miss you Stevie.
@verbalassalt09 I'm hearin' ya loud and clear!!! This is the most beautiful song I think I've ever heard! It brings out a certain sense of spirituality. I wouldn't mind having this song played for my last rights.
wonder how stevie feelt about his playing when he plays cord not even i can guess 2.00 and 2.43 its orgasm and still so manny try to be like him i don't think the feelings for the guitar in them as stevie had, i just hope he didn't end up going anal on the poor guitar when he did this
at 2:00 he plays a note that doesn't belong at all to the chord whats played in the background. But still he does it in so smooth style that it sounds right. What i'm saying is if you're enormously talented guitar player like Stevie, you can play wrong notes and sound still like a master
I saw Stevie several times and i also watched bunch of the scene in Austin and Antones in the early to late1980's. Drunk at Antones at 0400 then to Rubys BBQ to eat. Then either walk or push your bicycle home
@bobke114 I miss the old Austin. I was born/raised here and it pretty much sucks now. I remember when SRV died. Everybody at worked stopped working. I wasn't a big fan and couldn't understand it but when I got older, I realized what they were talking about.
@brucetraeger You are so right!!! Every musician has their genre. Every listener has their preference. We are all so lucky to have such choices in our lives. And with all the available choices in music, it comes down to everybody loving music in whatever form they prefer. BUT, baseline, we ALL love music.
Stevie is the best...people think Steve Vai is..how about you look how fake his emotions are..in "For the Love of God" for instance..his emotions just seem so put on and his music is all technicality!!! Stevie poured his heart and soul into the grains of wood on his guitar and made MUSIC not technique!! SRV!!!!!!
After Johnny Carson's son, a photographer, died in a car wreck, Johnny did a tribute to him at the end of the Tonight Show by showing his work with this song playing. One of the classiest things I ever saw on television.
This man was one of a kind. 100 years down the line, there will never be another SRV. I am delighted to have been born in the same era of his magnificent music. When I leave this world, I can say my ears and my heart were happy to hear this man play. RIP Stevie.
michael angelo batio is undoubtedly and undeniabley the worlds best. he can recreate anyones style. and is quite bored with the limitation set on himself by the guitar itself. i guess thats why he plays two at once upside down sometimes. but anyways. it cant be disputed. but stevie made one damn good song and i respect any great artist. its not about the best......its about the creation. being the best is just temporary. creation is forever
@kief4diamonds Your definition of "the best" is simply flawed, music is an art, which is not cold, and precise like some mathematical equation that either is, or isn't. You could be the fastest, most technical guitar virtuoso in the world, but without feeling, to add to the whole 'equation' you are nothing. And if you truly believe it isn't disputable, then you my friend, are one failed attempt of a human being, trying to understand something that, is just above your head.
@Zbinxary its not above my head. quit being a troll dude. dont try to be condescending to make yourself seem smart. or youll cause me to get alot of thumbs up. this is simple. its just good music. as i said above...its not about whos the best technically (which is equally admirable). its about the creation and how it lives on even after your gone. something every artist aspires too. simple. not complex. not above a 4 year olds head even. you shouldnt overcomplicate things. just listen.
@kief4diamonds I have no problem with anything you said, other than "michael angelo batio is undoubtedly and undeniabley the worlds best" "it cant be disputed", I personally like him as a musician even. But you obviously didn't read my response correctly. It's quite clear, I was just correcting you, your statement is an opinion, it is not a fact, the best is COMPLETELY subjective to the listener, so don't preach to people listening to a SRV video, about how MAB is better than him.
MAB can indeed recreate anyone's style and so on but his problem is that he didn't create his own one, enough characteristic to recognize that's exatcly HIM after playing just a few notes - unlike SRV or many others.
The anniversary of his death is coming in a few days and I must say Stevie will forever remain my all time favorite. This song will always be my favorite. I will never forget the day he died because several years later my twins were born on the day he died. He will forever be in my heart and never forgotten. We love ya Stevie.
Ironic and captivating, deep in it's feeling, this was probably his gift to us as he took that final journey. I sit sometimes and think"what could have been" but it's nothing but regret...I do ponder sometimes of what it must be like in rock n roll heaven....RIP Stevie....
SRV was a troubled soul, as with many great artists, you can feel it in songs like this and Lenny. As with many of the "greats", the true genious has yet, and never will be shown. We can only appreciate, groove and mourn the loss of such an outstanding artist. We love and miss you, Mr.Vaughn.....
Respond to this video... I couldnt agree more. I said the same thing when I first heard this song. Ironic its the last song on the last CD. Great closing tune to anyones life.
@cwylie1st I read in my Stevie Ray Vaughan issue of guitar player that he wrote this after he got clean, Lenny was written towards the beginning of his career he didn't get clean until the end. He recorded Lenny in 1983 and Riviera Paradise in 1989. So I guess I was trying to say your wrong!
@jessicalovesbryan Thanks for the correction. So instead, I'd like to ask, in what way does this sound Lenny. The melodic groove of SRV exemplifies his clean living and the peace that he found within himself.
The debate about who is "the best guitar player ever" is entertaining, but pointless. We all have our favorites. What I can say, is that only Stevie Ray Vaughan and Carlos Santana have ever made me feel like they and their guitars were one and that they were channeling some infinite cosmic power when they play. This song in particular effects my soul directly in some unspeakable way...joy, sadness, beauty, introspective and repose. Truly a transcendent work.
@mcpaplus I so hear you about SRV and Carlos. They put so much soul into their music. Have you heard Carlos Santana-Europa? The same soul vibes you get from Riviera Paradise. I agrre with you, these two artists are beyond just human!
@Brandon18valensi once again, thats his opinion, jmi hendrix pollyhas bein acounted for te most as the best, and hes my favorit,bt you know theres people out there that hate hendrix
@floridashorti David Gilmour is quite possibly one of the most under rated guitar players out there, although I'm not sure what that has to do with this SRV masterpiece...
@SquealingWeasel my salute to Mr.Gilmour was in response to an earlier comment here & in no way was meant in disrespect to SRV nor denigration of this stellar jam.
@GaryMorton93 i feel the exact same way about the same two! thats either scary ,or we have damn good taste.r.i.p. SRV!! gods got the best blues band now for sure...
@mcpaplus yea it's really hard to say whos better than who because there are so many different styles. plus there are plenty of guitar players who arent as famous who can give these famous ones a damn good run for their money. personally I prefer groove over speed.
@mcpaplus if I was to pick one it would most likely be david gilmour. hands down, the guy is the king of tone, and his phrasing is perfect. his speed aint bad either.
@mcpaplus It's pointless because SRV wins, he's Hendrix and Satriani's love child, the cleanliness and perfection of Satriani, with the pure dripping with feel emotion of the songs he writes, much like Hendrix, who was just a dirtier player.
@mcpaplus I really dig your statement but when i think about what you said the first name that comes to my head is Jimi for sure. I mean talk about someone being one with their instrument. He owned the guitar and pretty much was just one with it and his music, its like just one complete entity. But i respect your choices and totally see how and why you feel that way.
@bmillerdrums Bmillerdrums...you are correct. Ever since I posted that comment as mcpaplus, I've regretted not including Jimi in the crowd...he is probably above even Stevie and Carlos in most respects. My bad for leaving him out...one of those "at the moment" type comments on my part. Jeez...I listened to this song again today at lunch...mid October the weather is turning cold. Such a feeling of impending dread of the Winter, yet a deep warmth...amazing scope of feelings in this song..
All of SRV's songs are trully great, but i see in this one, such a mature stevie ray, makesme thing about all the great songs he could still have recorded...
I grew up listening to this guy. I'm 16 now. I remember when I was little, every time my Dad played Stevie in the car, I'd play air-guitar and sing along to him. I'd call him the 'guitar man'.

michael angelo batio is undoubtedly and undeniabley the worlds best. he can recreate anyones style. and is quite bored with the limitation set on himself by the guitar itself. i guess thats why he plays two at once upside down sometimes. but anyways. it cant be disputed. but stevie made one damn good song and i respect any great artist. its not about the best......its about the creation. being the best is just temporary. creation is forever
kief4diamonds 6 months ago 2
@kief4diamonds Your definition of "the best" is simply flawed, music is an art, which is not cold, and precise like some mathematical equation that either is, or isn't. You could be the fastest, most technical guitar virtuoso in the world, but without feeling, to add to the whole 'equation' you are nothing. And if you truly believe it isn't disputable, then you my friend, are one failed attempt of a human being, trying to understand something that, is just above your head.
Zbinxary 6 months ago
@Zbinxary its not above my head. quit being a troll dude. dont try to be condescending to make yourself seem smart. or youll cause me to get alot of thumbs up. this is simple. its just good music. as i said above...its not about whos the best technically (which is equally admirable). its about the creation and how it lives on even after your gone. something every artist aspires too. simple. not complex. not above a 4 year olds head even. you shouldnt overcomplicate things. just listen.
kief4diamonds 6 months ago
@kief4diamonds I have no problem with anything you said, other than "michael angelo batio is undoubtedly and undeniabley the worlds best" "it cant be disputed", I personally like him as a musician even. But you obviously didn't read my response correctly. It's quite clear, I was just correcting you, your statement is an opinion, it is not a fact, the best is COMPLETELY subjective to the listener, so don't preach to people listening to a SRV video, about how MAB is better than him.
Zbinxary 6 months ago
@kief4diamonds if you genuinely believe that then I pity you
WeeArnSon 6 months ago
@kief4diamonds

I just started listening to SRV's music about 3-4months before he died., this song got stuck with me, never get tired of it.

We love and miss you, Mr.Vaughn.....
michaellehmann183 6 months ago
He knew he was going to pass, so he put his heart, soul, being, and identity into this song for his fans to hear forever.

@StratoBlaster420 But this was many many years before Lenny!
cwylie1st 7 months ago
@cwylie1st I read in my Stevie Ray Vaughan issue of guitar player that he wrote this after he got clean, Lenny was written towards the beginning of his career he didn't get clean until the end. He recorded Lenny in 1983 and Riviera Paradise in 1989. So I guess I was trying to say your wrong!
jessicalovesbryan 7 months ago

Truly a transcendent work.
mcpaplus 7 months ago 50
@mcpaplus Agreed.....and there are just too many forms, styles and type of guitar playing to ever try to compare them all anyway............
jacopman 7 months ago
@mcpaplus I agree but would add Jimi Hendrix in with Carlos and Stevie Ray.

in with Carlos and Stevie Ray.
sarahjeanbeans 7 months ago
@mcpaplus I so hear you about SRV and Carlos. They put so much soul into their music. Have you heard Carlos Santana-Europa? The same soul vibes you get from Riviera Paradise. I agrre with you, these two artists are beyond just human!

Good lord, my friend you really said it in words... this song is evidence for the existence of
some greater dimension to life - a place or state of mind I hope we all will one day find.
Its melancholy is it's perfect beauty.

floridashorti 5 months ago
@floridashorti David Gilmour is quite possibly one of the most under rated guitar players out there, although I'm not sure what that has to do with this SRV masterpiece...
SquealingWeasel 5 months ago
@SquealingWeasel my salute to Mr.Gilmour was in response to an earlier comment here & in no way was meant in disrespect to SRV nor denigration of this stellar jam.

@mcpaplus Great comment about two of the best! Who cares who is "best" anyway? Just enjoy the beautiful sounds they each provide!
MaxHasMoxy 5 months ago
@mcpaplus yea it's really hard to say whos better than who because there are so many different styles. plus there are plenty of guitar players who arent as famous who can give these famous ones a damn good run for their money. personally I prefer groove over speed.
JAT763 5 months ago
@mcpaplus if I was to pick one it would most likely be david gilmour. hands down, the guy is the king of tone, and his phrasing is perfect. his speed aint bad either.
JAT763 5 months ago
@mcpaplus and Jeff beck!!
OAwArenAwAkeO 5 months ago
@mcpaplus It's pointless because SRV wins, he's Hendrix and Satriani's love child, the cleanliness and perfection of Satriani, with the pure dripping with feel emotion of the songs he writes, much like Hendrix, who was just a dirtier player.
Compton3clipsed 4 months ago
@Compton3clipsed see there u go, thats just an opinion
LedZeppelin420x 4 months ago
@mcpaplus I really dig your statement but when i think about what you said the first name that comes to my head is Jimi for sure. I mean talk about someone being one with their instrument. He owned the guitar and pretty much was just one with it and his music, its like just one complete entity. But i respect your choices and totally see how and why you feel that way.
bmillerdrums 4 months ago
@bmillerdrums Bmillerdrums...you are correct. Ever since I posted that comment as mcpaplus, I've regretted not including Jimi in the crowd...he is probably above even Stevie and Carlos in most respects. My bad for leaving him out...one of those "at the moment" type comments on my part. Jeez...I listened to this song again today at lunch...mid October the weather is turning cold. Such a feeling of impending dread of the Winter, yet a deep warmth...amazing scope of feelings in this song..
