  • not ghosting. ghosting is a static image usually set to the right of items such as text. SOOOOO many people think that ghosting is just a really low response time.

  • wow the music is driving me nuts

  • Its not that bad. Remember, these are IPS panels as well and all IPS panels except recent ones suffer from some ghosting. I've used the 2407WFP and really the ghosting is not that bad.

  • well, i guess in 2007 it was very common. but if any monitor ghosts today in 2010, it should be illegal for the manufacturer to ship. i never want to encounter a ghosting monitor :S they have enough money to insure quality these days so it's a MUST.

  • Whats its response time?

  • ah? i dont get? what is ghosting? and how will i know if it's ghosting? tnx

  • Long live CRT monitors.

  • Song is from a German (modern) medieval music group Estampie and it's called Non Sofre Santa Maria. It's from Cantigas de Santa MAria, 13. th century song book written by Alfonso X the Wise, king of Castile and León (Spain).

  • sounds like a song from suikoden on the PSX ^_^

  • nice vid thanks for posting. Im thinking of getting this monitor myself, ive heard the imput lag is quite good, which is more important than the ghosting imo. Whats the name of the song btw? :-)

  • This ghosting is seen only in certain situations, and it's most obvious when very bright surface is moving across moderately dark one - hence the use of Notepad window in front of dark desktop.

It's true that it is hard to see in most conditions, but I play a lot of flight simulations, and the colour of dark sea brings out this defect very clearly.

I got used to it since then, but I'm still a bit angry for paying extra 20 EUR for ghosting check at shop.

  • Good review, definitely a monitor i 'was' interested in. You'd think this newer model wouldn't have the damn ghosting issue...

  • Looks like a serious problem. I was about to buy this screen but now I am not sure. Is this problem anyway solved by now?

  • I can see how eventually that could drive you insane

  • I honestly can't see how that is such a big deal ? thanks for sharing though.

  • its a hooj deal in fps games

  • I thought it was terrible at first. Now I'm used to it, and notice the amazing color and backlighting more than anything. I couldn't be any happier with it :P

  • Hi,

Try using the DVI as inputs instead the RGB, I think it helps well at least for me!

  • Out of the box, besides being too bright, it has green and gray ghosting, but the whole thing is blown out of proportion imho and depends on the user, his habits, how picky/perfectionist he is and if he is aware of it.

It's only as obvious when moving objects at a certain constant speed. In my case it doesn't occur in 99% of the time, but other users might have mouse habits and settings that are spot on the ghosting range.

  • Green ghosting can be fixed by using rgb 86-85-84 and reduced dvi freq (59hz). With this settings gray ghosting is reduced but still visible. During normal work you shouldn't notice it, unless looking specifically for it and reproducing it. My brother, who is unaware of it, hasn't noticed it in 2 weeks. Shame that after finally getting the 2407 right after 4 revisions, they changed it again.

  • i just bought a samsung 226bw, which is supposed to be the best gaming lcd and im having ghosting problems.. tigerdirect wont accept a return either. It only happens in a grayish background though, like your having.

  • Samsung, like LG, sells at least 3 version of the same model (226bw), each one assembled by a different manufacturer... a very bad policy IMO, it's only a matter of luck...

  • hi

Did you contact the technical support?

    what did they tell you?

  • I bought the monitor from the reseller, not from Dell in Slovenia, since they didn't have the 24" models on stock and they cost more than 900 EUR here. Reseller says that I can get an exchange (I also have a dead pixel, and my monitor had zero dead pixel warranty). But he can't guarantee that the replacement will be any better.

  • . And this is the help I got on the Dell forum:

    "Bwaze,

I can only speak for USA policies. My advice is to get another exchange and see if the replacement is better. I doubt it will be but it is your call."

  • So, it seems that the whole series 2407WFP-HC is affected. I don't know if I can get a refund, and if this refund will include postage costs -- I guess not, so I lost 60 EUR already. And if I try a replacement and then decide I can't live with this ghosting, then I'm 90 EUR down, and no nearer to a new monitor.

  • Sorry :(

I have an LG 226WA with an overdrive issue like yours, but less eye-catching...

I read that the effect can be lowered by a new firmware (it can only be loaded inside by technical support tough), but I suspect that different builders as well as the quality of the used materials can make the difference, so that the SAME LG or Dell model can be in fact many different products ... a mere question of luck >(

  • Well, I think I was wrong... I spoke with a technician, and he tells me it isn't a matter of firmware, but a matter of good or bad panels...

  • I don't think it's the panels. But something in the overdrive circuitry. My 2407FPW (non-HC) also had yellowish/pinkish ghosting. I remedied with tinkering with the R G B values.

    set to PC RGB / PC Mode / PC Custom Color / R87 / G84 / B87

Voila.. the yellowish/pinkish ghosting problems went away.. try toying with these settings. they can improve image quality a lot.

  • You're right about RGB settings. Most of my LG 226wa ghosting was solved by lowering RGB values in the OSD ;)
