Oh man, Asa eating. I used to play, chat with and marvel at Asa when I lived in NYC. He knows every food bargain and sucker in the city. There was this great gourmet sandwich shop in front of Bryant Park, Asa would wait till just before they closed and get all the sandwiches at half price. The modesty is nice, but I've seen him hustle IMs. Asa's stories are pure NY, just don't believe them. I bought a signed copy of his book from him, great memories; you miss characters like him.
I had the pleasure of playing Mr. Hoffman years ago. Blitz. Despite having a draw at the GM level and having beaten the champion of my home state(a Fide Master) handily in a mere 26 moves, I could beat Mr. Hoffman an occasional game but rarely, more often than not, having bored him into submission. I was recieving substantial time odds. He is brilliant. TAF
i've known asa since i was a kid when i played at the marshall, so there was no problem getting him to be in it. and yes , he's there a lot. do u go to tisch?
Asa was not featured in the film. An actor portrayed him. He was asked to participate and declined.
