As is so often the case with Swans, the live version of this song is far superior to the studio recording. That is not to say the studio recording is bad, however.
I've just been getting into this album recently. Opinion seems to be divided on Swans pre & post 'Burning World'. Personally, I like it all & feel glad they went all windswept & epic on our mortal asses!
I love this band too! I like the way they played almost everything like Industrial, Gothic, Noise-Rock, Doom-Rock, Metal, Shoegaze, Soundtrack-music, the list goes and goes... I think "The Great Annihlator" and "Soundtrack For The Blind" are two good examples.
Just so 'you' know, I have more Swans discs in my collection than any other band. It just happened that way, it was not in my plan. Filth was the first dose I got, White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity was the second. Then came World Of Skin...White Light is gospel.
They're that way with me too, well, one of the bands where I had to hear EVERYTHING I could get my little hands on. So much variety throughout the years, one of those bands that were truly "progressive" in the best sense, I think.
its like they capture the depression of the world and why we must pay such high prices in life ! We can hope for paradise still . guess we had it comming (the inherited sins) peace and love :)))
I wouldn't know about the swans being that because the overdose I had was a complete accident I took to many of my prescription anti-depressents and I had to have my mom drive me to the hospital because they thought I could have seratonin syndrome.
This footage is from Vienna in 1989. You can order a copy of this from the official SWANS website. Quality is not the best, but the sound isn't too bad.
whoa didnt kno there was a Jarboe version. awesome

oh yeah i see. didnt know they had song for dead time before white light, great performance though, huge transistion from holy money!
Putyourknifinme 3 years ago
I thought this might've been from the White Light era too, I know bands like to try out new numbers before committing them to albums.

Jarboe's a bit freaky. But I love her anyway.

Amen to that. Surprised she already uses so much vibrato here - not so common on her recordings from this era.

A song first heard echoing from the vistas of Babylon.
Sucks that there's so many defects in the tape.

Sweet. The last time I saw Jarboe was the 1999 Swans are Dead tour.
