did you select the curve from the outliner and are your pick masks set correctly, watch from around 2:30 - 2:50 in part 1 and the answers should be there
Excellent videos! I have struggled with a spine not working correctly on a model for months now. I kind of gave up on the model until I viewed your tutorial. After seeing this tutorial, it took me a few minutes to redo the spine and now everything works correctly and moves without deforming. This is the easiest and probably the best spline IK tutorial I have seen. Thanks!

When I make this in Maya 2011, there's no way it'll let me select anything, I cant even get into vertex mode to manipulate it.
