Mookie had the fate of the entire Mets '86 season resting on him & was down to his final strike.Fouled off one nasty pitch after another until exploiting a weakness in Stanley mechanics forcing a wild pitch that saved the Mets season. Then he intentionally grounded the ball to vulnerable fielder who saw Sox season unraveling, had no chance to beat Wilson.&panicked at worst time becoming victim of circumstance.

Absolutely. All the talk about Buckner was stupid. It was Mookie's primal instinctual die-hard at-bat that saved that series. A lot of guys would choke trying to get the big hit. He played it pitch by pitch.

And he beats that play anyway, doesn't he? Buckner was on the line but deep enough behind the bag with the ball moving slowly and Mookie tearin' it up out of the box. Almost like a long drag bunt.

It just looked really bad for Buckner at that point, that's all. He doesn't deserve blame.

wilson did not intentionally hit the ball at buckner, but when he relized it was goin to him he thought he could beat him to first, he was trying to get the ball in play since the game was then tied

that really wasnt his fault, calvin schiraldi blew a 2 run lead in the bottom of the ninth and that had nothing to do with buckner. he also started the rally in game 5 of the 86 alcs that began the comeback. Buckner was a great player with one unfortunate moment
