I eat organic foods, but other than vitamin a and d what do you recommend to maintain the gut at its healthiest. Also, what form of vitamin a? Thank you.
@Nickalispicalis All of the above. Our thyroids are the most sensitive to harmful environmental exposures, pesticides and genetically modified foods being #1 and 2.
Hello Dr. Brady. I have a large issue for you. I've always been a healthy kid. I'm 22 years old and have been out of it going on a year due this month due to the side effects of an energy supplement called N.O. Xplode. The supplement has me rigged with chronic fatigue syndrome and I've tried everything to get rid of it. I was seeing a naturopath that put me on Adrenotone Plus to help my adrenals but I got the shakes from it. I'm currently juicing veggies & taking a multivitamin. Help please!!!
@danae417 Most food sensitivities are delayed meaning that you could eat an offending food on Monday and not notices any symptoms until Wednesday or Thursday. The best way to understand which foods you may be sensitive to is to run an IgG food allergy blood test. It can help you ID and eliminate/add foods to your diet. See the website for more info.
your thyroid also regulates hormone production as well . So your testosterone level goes down, estrogen goes up , and when that happens your dick goes in and your gut goes out. Iodine fixes it.
So Dr Brady, thanx for this video. My question is, if one has celiac diz (CD), and i've learnt this villi inflammation doesnt really involve damage to all the gut but just the part of the gut that's mostly absorbing fat soluble vitamins (ADEK) and maybe Fe, Ca, etc. So my question is, when one has CD and hypothyroidism clear symptoms, how can they get this vit A and D and in their right forms? Or can you supplement them parenterally, is that a better option?
@MegaMilkas Most with CD need to supplement with emulsified fat soluble vitamins (previously broken down). More importantly, you have an autoimmune process going on. Understanding your unique process will be key in balancing your immune response. I am doing a live Q&A session tomorrow at 12:00 EST. Feel free to come ask more questions there. Go to TrueHealthLabs (.) com and search for "The Doctor's In LIVE".
@MegaMilkas Very good question. Emulsified (already broken down) fat soluble vitamins are much easier for those with intestinal damage. Contact our office if you would like some good sources. To understand just how much emulsified vitamins you as an individual should take and to avoid taking too much, it is important to test your blood levels until they are optimal. See our website about that test or search the web.
i have hard there is a large genetic component with thyroid diseases. my mom has hashimoto's; she was diagnosed in her twenties. i am 22 and i am wondering is it likely that i will develop some kind of thyroid condition too based on genetic predisposition alone?
@ctswright Hashimoto's does have a genetic component, however, our environment ultimately controls our genetic expression. For example, those who have low vitamin D levels are much more likely to develop autoimmunity. Vitamin D play a massive role in DNA expressions. If you have 'sensitive' genes...
Thyroid antibodes are detectable MANY years before symptoms start. I suggest testing. TPO, TGA, and Vitamin D are available directly through our website. Contact us for help. See our channel.
I read where Colitis and Thryroid are linked . A few years ago ,I was put on synthroid for a slightly low funcition . then went off meds .,I Then had a severe case of Ischemic colitis as diagnosed :ended up in Hospital for five grueling days . Now I, again have many symptoms of Thyroid it seems: Dry skin /scalp,,slow to heal, hair loss, fatigue, cant sleep, tired when awake ,cold sensations, .not hungry,.etc . My Doctor does not think I ,have a Thyroid problem by guessing, at these symptoms .
@DYNODRUM Most cases of chronic colitis is autoimmune. Over 60% of those with antibodies to one tissue (colon) have antibodes to other tissues (thyroid etc.).
So YES, there are close connections. It is important to get tested to find out. Most docs will have to refer you out to get tested, however, you can order our "Thyroid Extended Panel" directly through our site. See our YouTube channel. Ask for help if need-be.
@DYNODRUM The problem is that thyroid won't get diagnosed till its full blown. My family physician got me tested for Thyroid by just taking a look. I had begun to put on weight. The tests were okay. That was three years back. But recently I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Apart from factors like thyroid issues in the family, puffy cheeks, chin drop (double chin), unexplained weight gain, skin problems are clear indicators, even if the tests don't show thyroid immediately.
Hi,I was recently diagonosed with having hypothroidism.I had a baby 11 months ago,I haven't seen the endocronologist yet but I have been having problems with my stomach, particullarly when consuming milk(I think).I was wandering if the problems that I'm having with my stomach could be causing my hypothyroidism.Could I restore my thyroid back to normal functioning?
@Danyella78 The most common form of hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid (80% of hypo cases). Even more common is autoimmune thyroid after giving birth.
Milk may be acting a a trigger for inflammation. This can alter the GI environment in negative ways. Since there is a intimate relationship with the gut and thyroid, many times improving gut functional will also improve thyroid function.
Autoimmunity must be ruled out. Our "Thyroid Extended Panel" can help. See channel--> website-->search.
So what if you have gastric bypass or vsg ? I would think that any gastric bypass vsgpatiens woould not be able to change that vitamin a in the gut because there is very little left?
Has a link between hypothyroidism and colitis ever been established? The GI-tract doctors are at their wits' end, they don't have any idea what's causing the colitis epidemic in younger folks.
@jakeway85 Yes, there is a link. In a state of hypothyroidism, the gut's transit time slows, exposing the gut lining to toxic byproducts for a longer period of time. Research also shows a large percentage of those with Hashimoto's form of hypothyroidism also have celiac disease which can be seen as colitis. Everyone must be screened no matter what diagnosis is given. Will have the ability for you to screen yourself very soon. Stay tuned.
My labs were strange last time I had tests done. My TSH was 1.0 but my T4 and T3 numbers were way too low. A lot of other things were off too. My vit. D was super low, adrenal glands were practically dead, very low progesterone and testosterone... a few others I don't remember. My doctor gave me B12 and D drops and progesterone cream. She didn't up my Armour thyroid or give me any T4 to add to the Armour (I've heard other doing that). I'm not sure what's going on.
@ScaperSteph For education only: Typically when you see TSH and T4 low something is going ayr with the pituitary gland. This gland also tells your adrenals how to work. I would investigare the pituitary gland and areas that influence it (test for cytokines, hypothalamus releasing hormones, and **rule out Hashimoto's hypothyroidism). If the above is all that was tested, your doctors are missing the big picture (extremely common). Will have the ability for you to order these tests yourself soon.
I had my thyroid taking out . what kind of diet should do to loss weight my doc has given up on me she says u cant loss weight! and my t4,t3 r fine help please.
@rhondag71 You will have to be on thyroid hormone replacement. However, conversion issues are very common. This means that you may have trouble converting T4 into T3. If you would like to talk about this, contact our office through our website.
@rhondag71 I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that was you last option. If your thyroid was dysfunctional because of Hashimoto's hypothyroidism (autoimmune attack on the thyroid) then other tissue attacks need to be checked for (e.g. celiac disease) before any dietary recommendations can be made. Your thyroid may be gone but this process continues after the fact. Were your FREE T3 and T4 measured (it will say on the report). If not, it's a must. You can order these tests yourself soon. Stay tuned.
So in other word you can be suffering from hypothyroidism even thou your T4, T3 levels are normal? Is Campylobacteria the bacteria you were refering to? And with gut connection do you mean malabsorbtion or insufficient intake of vitamin a and or d and why not look for vitamin sufficiency symtoms instead like poor night vision?? Surely you'll have vision problems much earlyer then you'll start having thyroid related problems if your lacking vitamin a..
@mirellale Yes, your T3+4 can be normal at the time of your test. Antibodies will fluctuate therefore you can have high/low T3,4 one day and normal the next. This is characteristic of Hashimoto's.
Vision loss is due to Vit A DEPLETION. That "symptom" means you have waited too long. DEFICIENCY WILL ALTER THYROID FUNCTION. This is "pre disease" so most MD's will be oblivious to this fact. Look at the Merk Manual (MD's Bible); Treatment for Hahi? Replacement hormones. Fixes immune system...nope!
What do you recommned for someone who has had a TTE and is using Armor, Calicium, D, C and Chromagen (chromagen due to persitient low ferritin with normal rbc)?
thank u 4 sharing.. i h ave celiac..and i beliee this all is connected 2 thanks.. i think my dr is not educated in this..i need to find another dr that takes my cheap insurance..- again thanks
@onegreeneye@onegreeneye celiac and hypot. are bouth autoimmune diseases wich is just a result of bad genes. Thats why you've got them bouth.. You are allso prob allergic to a lot of thing and you allso most likely have atopic skin.. If you've got one autoimmune you often have a nother.. Know u now..
@mirellale your right- just figured out that i am allergic to corn, too..& am SURE of celiac, with skin problems -luckily only on ankles-unseen.found out i dont have hypothyroidism, thats what doctors say- but whats wierd is my neck/jaw is swelling on the side, like a goiter-hmm..but have malabsorption, fibromyalgia - all of these things will heal in the close future- i pray all here become healed as well- thanks
It is so great that some good doctors are really looking into the thyroid diseases now. Thank you for posting this. I just wanted to say that I have read a few articles claiming that Vitamin D can seriously trigger auto immune response/diseases such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis. How does this fit into your regimen?
For a long time, looking AT the disease has been the problem. Most docs will just look at a few thyroid tests then give out the pez dispenser full of synthroid. They forget that the body is a SYSTEM and works as one. Cause and effect is rarely considered.
Vit D is a hormone that modulates (balances) the immune system. If levels aren't sufficient auto-immune, cancer, and infection issues can arise. YOU CAN OVERDOSE ON VIT D so testing is important.
I love so much your take on health and "medicine." Rather than just dishing out drugs to the herd, you're a proactive investigator, trying to get to the real root of our health issues. I'd like to find someone who takes such an approach in my neck of the woods. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
Our office has developed a TeleHealth service in which we can effectively do phone consultation and treatments over long distances. We reserve Tuesdays and Thursdays to do these consults.
ok , I had a total hysterectomy at age 28. I never took estrogen and I never really took BCP. I am now 46 and since the age of 39 i have been very tired. I was finally diagnosed with Hypothyroid disease after years of complaining about energy and aches and pains. so, i know my thyroid disease is not due to BCP or Estrogen. Can you Truly Help?
We can use different testing methods to help discover what is keeping your Thyroid from working properly. We can then use aggressive specific nutrition to flip your Thyroid switch back on.
We have develop a TeleHealth system in order to help people in need through phone/video consultations.
Thyroid hormone is needed stimulate hair follicles. In hyperthyroidism, you have an excess of thyroid hormones in circulation so it may not be directly involved.
However, in hyperthyroidism, ALL you metabolic processes are sped up. This could mean that you are making too much of certain hormones that can produce hair loss like dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Testing would be needed to find out WHY you have hyperthyroidism, if at all...
...I reserve Tuesday and Thursdays for phone consultations in order to help those who can not make it to my clinic. You will find my contact info to the right of the video.
Thanks doc. I have been on a learning about hypo journey for about a year 1/2 and it's overwhelming. I never imagined I'd be so "unwell" my new chiro has me learning about the "deflaming diet" and the gut connetion too. Damn our greedy corporations that turned agriculture into agribusiness and left us all with fake and nutritionless food.
Dear Dr Hurst, I have been ill for 2 years,my symptoms are poor memory, weak muscle aches, muscle pains in my pecks & points around my chest, dark circles under eyes, I had EGC & Angiogram but found nothing. My symptoms: poor memory, muscle pains in my pecks & points around my chest & back, dark circles under eyes, bloating of my stomach, I feel pressure ache around my sol plexus,I get palpitations, dizziness, I have been told that I have disbyosis.
The best thing to do is call my office and set and appointment. Finding out what is really going on and acting aggressively to restore function is key.
See my website to the right of the video for my contact info.
I have been diagnosed . The Dr. may put me on Synthroid.. I also lack b12/Iron I have Fibroids.. One Big One... Low Energy/ Brain Fog.. and I am eating healthier multi Vitamin/Fish oil- Co-Q10 I am 45, On Melatonin getting my Hormones checked out../Exercising Scary Times.. But Chage is a Must .. I really Need Help
I reserve my Tuesdays and Thursdays for phone consultations.
Go to my website (right of the video) and click on "New Patient". Download and complete the comprehensive forms. Include a recent picture and all previous lab reports.
Thank you. I have hypothyroidism and can't afford any kind of visit to a doctor. I'm doing what I can, and I know that it's dangerous and I need treatment...but I DO NOT HAVE money or insurance.
BTW: Best looking doctor out there. The REAL McDreamy.
The thyroid gland of the endocrine system secretes hormones that have a profound effect on calcium metabolism and on the entire body's metabolic rate. Thytrophin PMG contains Protomorphogen extracts which are uniquely derived nucleoprotein-mineral extracts that support cellular health. Bovine thyroid PMG extract helps maintain the thyroid tissues in a good state of repair to support healthy thyroid function
When I eat anything largely composed white flour, my stomach swells up as if I am pregnant and I get constipated, itchy, brain fog, low sex drive, and yeast infections. My doctor performed a blood test he said I didn't have hypothyroidism OR a gluten allergy AND my symptoms don't make sense. Doctor Hurst, I know this doesn't replace a doctor's visit, but what other illness could I possibly have? Most Docs can't seem to help me.
You have candida, a common factor in hypothyroidism, as not having enough thyroid hormones suppresses your immune system and candida is kept in check by a healthy immune system..i know i have hypo and candida, both are linked for us...candida is a yeast which can transform into a fungus and root itself into your bowel, then spreads to the blood/whole body and causes everything you've described..YOUVE CANDIDA & CANDIDA IS
OUT OF CONTROL IN THOSE WITH WEAKENED IMMUNE SYSTEMS -EG HYPOTHYROIDISM!
Vincent, what remedies are you using (vitamins, medicines, herbal, etc) to help you with the hypothyroid/candida issue? Also how did you find out you had both?
to have candida you would need to have a virtually nonexistent immunesystem my doc told me.She says if particular foods cause reactions then dont eat em.Its that simple.
in a severe candida prob. (which i had) where u are permanently intolerant to sugar, yeast, alcohol, yeast products &have secondary allergies to pretty much everything you cant live in the real world !Also, the Western understanding of candida is superficial, i have beaten it as i put Western ideas of just trying to kill it together with deeper chinese medicine understanding of it, &worked on it for yrs..i now control & can 'slip' on my diet alot without getting ill!
so to recapitulate it isn't 'that simple', to just avoid these foods! esp. when you consider sugar, yeast and sweeteners (which chinese medicine made me realise are worse than refined sugar for underlying prob of candida) are laced secretly in virtually all mainstream foods...i have 17 years experience trying to do the candida diet..i read every label & suggest you do too
Lastly, many candida sufferers (as with me) have underlying hypothyroid disease, which by the way is Another Giant-Killer issue to be in...firstly most hypothyroid sufferers are not diagnosible by standard crap mainstream tests, & secondly T4, which is practically the only med doc's prescribe, (are corrupty influenced as the pharmas make most profit from it,) is the least effective..I know i am a member of 'stop the thyroid madness' and thyroidUK, too massive groups..i cured my thyroid myself!
Yeast infections can ferment sugars and produce gas making you look and feel bloated.
Any other food sensitivities can create similar type symptoms due to inflammation. This can influence brain function and hormonal shifts.
I would first start with a Comprehensive GI test to look for infections. If there, we would eliminate them then run a IgG4 Food/Inhalant sensitivity test.
I reserve Tues + Thurs for phone consutations. See my site for info. Review "lab testing" also on my site.
Im on 1.75 MCG levoxyl for Hypothyroidism. My symptoms have gotten worse. I've gained weight, I rarely have a B.M. and it's never normal. I forget allot and I'm doing badly in my college classes. I found also that I have PCOS! I've not had my period in 7 months and before that 7 months, I used to have scattered ones but kind-of normal. My doctor won't do anything else but says I need to loose weight, but I try. What should I do?
I have heard Cod Liver Oil helps thyroid function. I've been on medication for 10 and still feel ill most of the time. I feel better in Summer when it is warm and there is more so
There are a lot of "things" that help with thyroid function. With any case it is of the utmost importance to identify the spider web of dysfunctions that are driving symptoms. They are different in EVER person. Fish oil may be helpful for one person and not for another even if they both have THE SAME "CONDITION".
The vitamin D: Most Americans are dangerously deficient in vitamin D...about 90% of my patients are. Get tested. Let us know if you need guidance.
Why couldn't I have found an honest doctor like you? This was amazingly helpful! I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 11, but that was well after the fact that my symptoms started.
Could you do a video about hypothyroidism and Iron deficiencies? Where can I learn more about your talks on Hypothyroidism?
It all depends. With my "healthy" patients, I run a metabolic urine test that will give us the information on, for example, how much Vitamin A they should be taking.
Here's the deal, and this is where most people who depend on the internet for their health education gets messed up. They hear: Vitamin A,D,E,C,K, fish oil, krill oil, ginkgo, alpha lipoic acid...are good for you. This person ends up buying bags full of supplements. TEST, DON'T GUESS. How much vitamin A do YOU need?
Thanks for the video. I have celiac disease so my gut function isn't optimal. Thyroid problems also run in my family - I'm always tired, and my hair is falling out. I've completely cut out any gluten in my diet, but do you have any suggestions for natural remedies/suppliments that may help improve hypothyroidism without taking medications? Will herbal suppliments be effective? Thanks :)
i have a same question.i have been suffering throuhg Low thryroid and i am using Thyroxine. My question is will herbal suppliments will be effective?i am looking forward for your answer.
If you are still having symptoms on the meds (assuming you are) then several things could be going on. You may not be converting the synthetic T4 (inactive) to T3 (active), or you may have an auto-immune attack on your thyroid...amongst other scenarios. Yes, several herbs, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids have been shown significantly improve thyroid function. If you would like to talk more you may visit my website-->"Book Online Apt"-->"Quick Chat". There is no charge.
hi i have question. i have cheilitis which is peeling lips just really bad and i wouldnt go away. i want to ask if any of your patients have peeling lips? im also underweight (63 kilo 180 high. ) and my body has not changed since i was like 15 ( im now 20) and im very thin looking (very small forearms and thin cheeks. i have a ill look even when im okay. does these things have a connection to thyroid problems?
I apologize about the extended delay in answering your question. First, many cases of CD are miss diagnosed. New test more accurate (Anti- Tissue Transglutaminase IgA/IgG, Total IgA, and Anti-Endomysial IgA). If you truly do have CD then a comprehensive nutritional test would be needed for you to supplement correctly, some being micellized (fat soluble vitamins made into water soluble) vitamins. If you would like to talk more visit my website-->"Book Online apt"--> "Quick Chat". No Charge.
Thank you! This confirms my suspicions. More videos pls.

Look at the Merk Manual (MD's Bible); Treatment for Hahi? Replacement hormones. Fixes immune system...nope!

JenNitngal 2 years ago

Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge!

ok , I had a total hysterectomy at age 28. I never took estrogen and I never really took BCP. I am now 46 and since the age of 39 i have been very tired. I was finally diagnosed with Hypothyroid disease after years of complaining about energy and aches and pains. so, i know my thyroid disease is not due to BCP or Estrogen. Can you Truly Help?
cchyna13 2 years ago
We can use different testing methods to help discover what is keeping your Thyroid from working properly. We can then use aggressive specific nutrition to flip your Thyroid switch back on.
We have develop a TeleHealth system in order to help people in need through phone/video consultations.

is hairloss a symptom of hyperthyroidism? I have had fatigue, weakness, dizziness and inability to gain weight.
artistawake 2 years ago
Thyroid hormone is needed stimulate hair follicles. In hyperthyroidism, you have an excess of thyroid hormones in circulation so it may not be directly involved.
However, in hyperthyroidism, ALL you metabolic processes are sped up. This could mean that you are making too much of certain hormones that can produce hair loss like dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Testing would be needed to find out WHY you have hyperthyroidism, if at all...

You have candida, a common factor in hypothyroidism, as not having enough thyroid hormones suppresses your immune system and candida is kept in check by a healthy immune system..i know i have hypo and candida, both are linked for us...candida is a yeast which can transform into a fungus and root itself into your bowel, then spreads to the blood/whole body and causes everything you've described..YOUVE CANDIDA & CANDIDA IS
OUT OF CONTROL IN THOSE WITH WEAKENED IMMUNE SYSTEMS -EG HYPOTHYROIDISM!
vincent4500 3 years ago
Vincent, what remedies are you using (vitamins, medicines, herbal, etc) to help you with the hypothyroid/candida issue? Also how did you find out you had both?
loolooscott 3 years ago
to have candida you would need to have a virtually nonexistent immunesystem my doc told me.She says if particular foods cause reactions then dont eat em.Its that simple.
luckylangerie 2 years ago
in a severe candida prob. (which i had) where u are permanently intolerant to sugar, yeast, alcohol, yeast products &have secondary allergies to pretty much everything you cant live in the real world !Also, the Western understanding of candida is superficial, i have beaten it as i put Western ideas of just trying to kill it together with deeper chinese medicine understanding of it, &worked on it for yrs..i now control & can 'slip' on my diet alot without getting ill!
vincent4500 2 years ago
so to recapitulate it isn't 'that simple', to just avoid these foods! esp. when you consider sugar, yeast and sweeteners (which chinese medicine made me realise are worse than refined sugar for underlying prob of candida) are laced secretly in virtually all mainstream foods...i have 17 years experience trying to do the candida diet..i read every label & suggest you do too
vincent4500 2 years ago
Lastly, many candida sufferers (as with me) have underlying hypothyroid disease, which by the way is Another Giant-Killer issue to be in...firstly most hypothyroid sufferers are not diagnosible by standard crap mainstream tests, & secondly T4, which is practically the only med doc's prescribe, (are corrupty influenced as the pharmas make most profit from it,) is the least effective..I know i am a member of 'stop the thyroid madness' and thyroidUK, too massive groups..i cured my thyroid myself!
vincent4500 2 years ago

I feel better in Summer when it is warm and there is more so
Sunlight. Am I vitamin D deficient?
Duranie9 3 years ago
There are a lot of "things" that help with thyroid function. With any case it is of the utmost importance to identify the spider web of dysfunctions that are driving symptoms. They are different in EVER person. Fish oil may be helpful for one person and not for another even if they both have THE SAME "CONDITION".
The vitamin D: Most Americans are dangerously deficient in vitamin D...about 90% of my patients are. Get tested. Let us know if you need guidance.

Do you know of any connection to Gilbert syndrome?

Why couldn't I have found an honest doctor like you? This was amazingly helpful! I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 11, but that was well after the fact that my symptoms started.
Could you do a video about hypothyroidism and Iron deficiencies? Where can I learn more about your talks on Hypothyroidism?
Kudos to you! Absolute Kudos!

i take beta carotene in my multivitamin. do i need to take vitamin A also?
thanks!
starflower666 3 years ago

Thanks :)

There is no charge.

hi i have question. i have cheilitis which is peeling lips just really bad and i wouldnt go away. i want to ask if any of your patients have peeling lips? im also underweight (63 kilo 180 high. ) and my body has not changed since i was like 15 ( im now 20) and im very thin looking (very small forearms and thin cheeks. i have a ill look even when im okay. does these things have a connection to thyroid problems?
wendel88 3 years ago
I apologize about the extended delay in answering your question. First, many cases of CD are miss diagnosed. New test more accurate (Anti- Tissue Transglutaminase IgA/IgG, Total IgA, and Anti-Endomysial IgA). If you truly do have CD then a comprehensive nutritional test would be needed for you to supplement correctly, some being micellized (fat soluble vitamins made into water soluble) vitamins. If you would like to talk more visit my website-->"Book Online apt"--> "Quick Chat". No Charge.
