it depends, there is evidence in the language and songs that many o fthe slaves were from Dahomey modern day Benin ( the ewe especially) also Yoruba (nago) and Igbo influences as well as Senegambian ( wolof and mandingo/mandinka) different peoples from the Congo are represented as well. @chikaduraka I didn't have to Google anyone to know that they are Haitian. Most of these people I've worked with as stated in this video. Or I know them personally and 2 of them I went to school with. Just cause you don't know them don't mean other don't. The only ones that I never worked with was Wyclef but no need for that.

I think it would be sad for a haitian to stand in public and claim to be a latina because we are not listed as such, and most of haitians wouldn't want to be latinas after how the dominicans treated them for years. And I still what the 'term ''latino'' in North and South America (where I live) still refers to for most people : specific ethnic features and Spanish speaking, so no, in that sense, which is the commonly used, I stick to my point, feeling, and belief : we're not latinos. I think it would be sad for a haitian to stand in public and claim to be a latina because we are not listed as such, and most of haitians wouldn't want to be latinas after how the dominicans treated them for years. It's like how most African Americans claim to be mix with white or indian all nonsense

Latino would mean as it is widely used to have spanish (and even protuguese) as our mother tongue or be from European latin countries : Italy, Spain, Romania... and so on... Haitians do NOT correspond to those criterias, I really DO NOT see how you can call me latina. My husband is to some extent, French with Spanish heritage... but I'm not !

@JAmaicaHAitiShawty Haitian Creole is French based, English Based, Spanish based, even American Indian and African languages based... So I'm what French, English, Spanish, American Indian, and African... ? Thank you for the confusion ? loll. Our creole is partly latin based, not totally. So to those who want to sweat their latin heritage go ahead and be latino... but don't sweat that in front or the REAL ones Shawty... ;)

@VyNaturally Haitian Creole is based on many langs. but mostly French and African langs. When they talk about Haiti on the new they acknowledge Haiti as a Latino county. The real one you are not if you don’t know what titles Haitian people falls into. Which is many! I'm working on getting Haitians artist on the Latin Grammy. the reason we haven’t been yet is because Haitian artist dont license there music you have to be license to nominated but they dont want to pay for that.

@oolibrice Everyone is mixed and is many things. In France for instance, the vast majority of the Whites have diverse ethnic origins. They only call themselves French however, they don't sweat anything else. Why is it that some Haitians just suddenly (or always have) want to be many things ? Is it because it is ''cooler' ?

@VyNaturally Since the begining of time people were mixed b/c all man comes from the african man. . It has nothing to do with being cool. Its about taking the titles that really belong to you duh. We arent really haitians we are africans. the true haitians were the native people. The title Haitians now belong to us cause we live on that island just like the title latino because we speak a latin langs. When we become haitians we became latinos. DUH you cant take one with out taking the other

@oolibrice I knew all along that Haitian Creole, being partly Spanish and French based can be considered to be a latin based language. And I still what the 'term ''latino'' in North and South America (where I live) still refers to for most people : specific ethnic features and Spanish speaking, so no, in that sense, which is the commonly used, I stick to my point, feeling, and belief : we're not latinos. I don't feel latin. And I am what I chose to be. Don't think you are teaching me anything.

@VyNaturally sweet heart im not trying to have call urself anything u dont want 2 call urself. but at the end of the day Haitians are latino. Haitian dont only speak creole we also speak french I SPEAK FRENCH. Creole is hardly spanish base its mostly latin based and due to the fact that its latin base all latin langs are based around each other. The true meaning of the world include haitian. Time 4 a new video. The international press includes Haiti.

@oolibrice Haitians speak French... tell me something I don't know ! Unlike what you think, most Haitians DO NOT speak French. Unly the educated ones do so. And education is not what the Haitian government spend most money on. Education is accessible only to a few ! Therefore, so is French. The basic meaning of the word ''latino'' is not the common meaning of it. That you know. So regarding the common meaning, Haitians are no latinos. But if you want to stretch it to the basis, yes, in a way.

@VyNaturally Creole is not modern day French but more so 17 and 18 century French all langs change w/ time. USA don’t speak da old English nor do we speak the ENGLAND English. We speak the American English. Even da way dat we spell is not da right way. The real way to spell Favorite is Favourite. The real way to speak Labor is Labour. Education use to be free in Haiti most chose not to live port au price so they didnt get that free education. da basic mean has change when we became mixed people.

@oolibrice I don't know how it is over there, where you live, but here in Canada, and for most Haitians in Haiti, the basic meaning of the world latin ? They could not care less about it ! Next to them in Haiti is the Dominican Republic, they call them ''panyol'' and do not call themselves that. Haitians in Canada, and for most in Haiti, the common sense of latino does not apply to them. Same here for me. And I stick to that.

@VyNaturally Now your talk to a haitian that is very educate about her culture. Now do you know what the world panyol means sweet heart. It means Spanish speaking. A lot of haitians isnt educated enough to know where they fall. They call anyone that speak spanish panyol lol are you freaking kinding me I call my sister and brother panyol cause they speak spanish. They mother is Dominican we call our cousin that are part cuban the same. Haitians are the same where ever you go. Canada to the USA

I don't need your translation of the word ''panyol'' and I, unlike you, assumed you knew the meaning of it. And that is why I pointed it out to you. And yes they call ANYONE that speak spanish that, mostly the (real) latinos because there are not so much REAL Spanish people in North America (mostly when you compare to the american latinos.

America isnt just USA its Canada, mexico Haiti cant change true meaning of words. You can close your eyes and mouth but at the end of the day the truth is the truth. @oolibrice In the end ''panyol'' came to mean ''latino'' to the vast majority of Haitians. And since they don't call themselves that, they don't consider themselves as latino, which is my point. They're okay with the other identities they gave to themselves. While perhaps, they should be knowleadgeable about their ''latin'' (mostly linguistically speaking here) origin, they don't have to identify to it. It's maybe good to point it out. But trust me, they're not gonna feel latino for most !

@VyNaturally where did you get your education? Are you even haitian? no disrespect any Haitian knows the word panyol means Spanish speaking not Latino. Espanola= panola =payold common sense isn’t common sense anymore. You should say that you equal latino with panola. Cause as a Haitians you don’t know what the word means. You can not change a true meaning of a word. How do you feel Latino? I'm African and Haitian but I don’t feel like neither. I'm human like everyone else that speak many langs.

Don't you know that words evolve to collectively mean something else decades or centuries after ? Don't you ? Even if ''panyol'' means apanish speaking, basically, since latino-americans speak spanish as well just like people from Spain themselves, and since Spanish citizens are fewer in Haiti (or inexistant) and in other parts of America the continent...

@VyNaturally LA are people in the Americas that speak romantic lang. The languages the we speak is just that Kreyòl ayisyen and French and Kreyòl ayisyen is included in that. Looking up romantic langs will make you stop saying dumb stuff. i love doing videos on youtube cause people like you give me reasons to do videos. @oolibrice Correction : words meaning DO change ! Mainly because people change, evolve and misuse words. For instance, the word ''con'' -which in any French dictionary means : stupid, imbecile, dumb- centuries ago meant : a woman's sex/ vagina. Now if that is not a word changing meaning... Many English words and other living languages words had diffrent meaning in another era. Why ? Because of people themselves, their habits and usage of a word. Same thing for the ''latino'' or ''panyol''....

@VyNaturally meaning to words can not be changed it can be added to. thats why in the dictionary we see dates and country to say when the word came if its old english or if its new english to say also what country is it from. A word in french doesnt mean the same in english or spanish.
