Please don't use sand the gecko will breath it in and will start to accumulate in there body and will kill them but the bearded dragon can have sand it is preferred
well this is verry simple, im sure these lizards are big now, but especially now, you need to take caution when you clean their cages.your wife's lizard is VERRY fragile, i suggest not EVER holding her unless needed to. the tail comes of easy, and most likely will die afterwards. ive had 5 or six of these guys. so do not hold her unles in a manditory situation, and be as careful as you are with ur T's. if you need more information, just message me, and i'll be glad to help.
the bearded dragon needs uvb and basking lights depending on the size of the tank you need a sertain watt and needs either carpet or a desert blend i would go with the desert cause i have had my friends get its nail stuck in it and rip out its nail and it needs a like rock or something it can sit on so it can bask
the leo gecko looks subadult, i have 2 (1 with enigma syndrome) they dont need uv lights as long as they get calci-dust or nutrobal. i have 4 bearded dragons so any help you need, message me, all i will say is DONT start them out on sand, they will eat big gobfulls of it when they grab the crickets and get impacted and die. also, if yours turns out to be female, put a damp container of sand in if she digs a lot and stops eating, she needs to lay (infertile) eggs, they die if they cant lay them
@kdkretch1993 When a beardie is stressed or angered it'll show black line patterns on its belly and have a darker complexion on its back. Also the beard puffs out and turns like a charcoal black color.
@Ziegbod yep thats what i meant. but on my neighbors, i never check the belly lol. but when Barry gets mad his beard turns black and when it turns orange it means he is happy. its funny and awesome. he doesnt like heights so he turns black and after you have him on you he turns orange. lol
rocks to climb on, colorless sand, heat lamp, UV lamp, regular light, the heat lamp is only on one side, UV lamp on opposite side, and regular light like what you use for your T videos, goes over entire length. distinguished day/night, fed pellets, added calcium spray, meal worms occasionally, in a big enclosure, they have him in a 40 gal or something. length rather than height. i'm sure you've found all you need by now, but just trying to help. LOL!!!
beared dragons are world wide there from here in aus they are awesome pets!!! just need to be warm in day and not to cold during night as in any animal lol. they never bite either! unless u really hurt them my freidn actually stuck his finger down its throat and it didnt bite him... after i showed a threat.
hey just wondering if u can do an update on the lizards i got my own beardie dont forget they should always be let out every day and need at least a 40 gallon tank or more
rob, can you do an update on the gecko and beardie? my neighbor has one and he's huge. i petsit him and boy does he love me. they have 2 dogs, a cat, some fish, and a beardie
I know this is old, but those are 2 of the easiest and most beginner lizards to own, its ironic, in snakes and in tarantulas, the pretty ones seems to be the ones that are kinda more advanced in care, but alot of the lizards that are beautiful are beginner species.
your care seems pretty decent, you do run risk of impaction with sand, but other than that, seems good to me =)
i know alot about leoperd geckos because i was gonna get one so i did my homework.they like it warm areas.dont get a tank to big they will stay away from their proper heat. some people use plastic storage boxes for housing.heat him up by undertank heating pad.they eat mealworms and crickets.they can be 6 inches in length.do not handle often
both arid reptiles so sand is fine, add fruits and vegetables to the beardie's diet and for the leopard gecko keep a bowl of meal worms in there for them. i believe you will need both a basking light and a UBV light so they can properly metabolize the calcium. and for anyone here who thinks NOT getting a UBV bulb and putting them next to a window is a good idea...it's not. Glass Filters out UBV. you would then have to take them outside for about an hour a day.
hey @tarantulaguy1976 i had a bd and they do good on carpet the repti carpet mine is in a 150 gal cage hes an adult he eats lots of meal worms and for the lepoard gekos they will at full size need a 20 - 30 gal enclosure they do good on carpet but do not get sand or at least preety sand not good for themum i have alot of reptiles and answer it snakes lizards frogs i will tell you and dont get stuff at pet stores online is the best but you prob now that

and by the way, you may have not know much about leopard geckos back then, but you got one of my favorite morphs, good choice! lol, but i would suggest that you dust their food once every week or 2
Hey how are the gecko and lizard doing, i bet liz is giant now, those beardies grow fast! if you ever need help with either the beardie or leopard gecko you can ask me but im pretty sure youve figured them out by now lol
oh and i recomend doing a bulb set up insted of heat pad,reb nightglow heat bulb with a dimming thermostat, and tsankes dnt need it but hey probably cud do with a low power uvb bulb =)
hey nice lizards.......im not a lizard experts but there not much diffrent to snakes, dont mist the enclosure, buy slightly damp substrate with a water dish big enuf to bath in because snakes and im geussin gekos too can get respiritory problems quite easy from too much humidity,60-70 shud be good, and keep at the temratures of around 76-83 warm end cool end set upand since yu gt lizards yu shud sooooo get a snake,i recomend a baby boa constrictor az there beautifle.i want a cromatus sooo bad
did you get all the info you neede on your beardie rob as I keep beardies myself and seens as youve given me some advice and got me on to an ace forum i figure anything i can to do help :-)
advice. 10 gal is perfect. no calci sand, paper towel is perfect, or for looks repticarpet. undertank heater cover almost half the tank. large hid on hot side smaller on cool side, and then just a waterbowl. also humid hides can be nice for it. eating, just feed live crickets dusted with calcium w/D3 every other day. hope this helps! i love the gecko!!!!!
For the leopard gecko and the bearded dragon dont use sand even the healthy sand it can cause inpaction and it can kill them use reptile carpet it is cheaper and easy to clean unlike sand
Bearded dragon: Heat,Light, food like crickets, small roaches but not to much carnivores foods because that could lead to medabolack bone desease.....im not sure if thats how you spell it....im only 13 but believe me i know. you will know if it has MBD if its lower jaw is not lined up with its upper jaw...leafy lettuce, dandy lion leafs, some fruit such as chopped up bannana, strawberries thats all i can really think of but your sons is to small for fruit....oh and not to much fruit causes MBD : )
@tarantulaguy1976 sand with calcium is bad for the leopard geckos it will cause I'm paction and then the sand will go to the eyelid and the eye will be irritated but I have a question. Are pink toe tarantulas a good starter? And if so do you have any for sale? I wanna start getting into this hobbie. But if you have ANY questions about reptiles like the leopard gecko or bearded dragon you can ask me I know alot about reptiles I have about 10.
Sand for the gecko is a bad idea, they're arboreal, and typically hail from rainforests. Now, for the beardie on the other hand, he's a desert kinda guy. Sand is definitely in his element, BUT! If you feed him in his tank, use sand that's calcium based, NO SILICA or other chemical manufacturers, they tend to be messy eaters, and will inhale quite a bit of sand.
For the beardy, they grow as long as you give them room. I occassionally powder my crickets for 'em, but it doesn't seem to hurt not to
can you give me some advice on my rose hair T. at night time she goes under her log and starts.... i dont know all i can say is it is a clear liquid coming from her mouth and goes in and out. like she is breathing or something. help me please.
k i know this is an old video and i dont know if it'll still help but my old friend had a bearded dragon and i know that its an omnivore so it'll eat the same stuff as some of your T's in adition to some lettuce and fruit and as for the enclosure they're from the scrublands of australia so id imagine having some sort of sandy/mossy bedding if that makes any sense and at petco/petsmart you can get turf misting bottles hope that helped a little(probably not tho)
for the leopard gecko i would put him in a ten gallon with repticarpet do not use sand it causes impaction and u need a basking light oh and you do need to have something for humidity like peat moss or wet paper towels dont mist the whole cage just the cool side
hey hows your sons bearded dragon coming? i have one of my own hes about 2 1/2. 3ft now bout 5 yrs old and hes a beauty, and if you need any help with them im sure i cn help ya.
first of all AWESOME ANIMALS DUDE and with the leo i wouldnt use sand because there is something called impaction witch my leo sufferd from but tht passed with the right treatment!! they come from the dessert and are nocturnal, they eat only insects no vegies like the berdie!! and to me it looks like a lavender and lemon leopard gecko coz it looks alot like mine!! and the 10 gallon tank would be fine for her/him but for two get a 15-20 gallon post a comment on my channel and i can help you!!!
Hey I've had those leopard geckos for a long time if u need any tips and cage tips I can hit ye up just pm me or something or on facebook my name is Colten Denby
dude my sister got a leopard gecko she said put a water bowl at one end with the hide/log and put the heat lamp at one end with something for her sit on as bask's in the heat that'll keep her warm and humid thats all advice i've hope it helps
don't mist the gecko. might not be a good idea with the live plants.
10 gal at least a paper towel substrate sand can cause impaction which can kill them, two bowels calcium and water, two hides warm spot cold spot, one a humid hide.
Yea an undertank heater is ok however it does not supply a uvb light source but uvb is crucial and yea moss is fine like T's they need humidity so moss is good and its okay to spray the moss but make sire u have adequate to dry the moss to be careful of mold cuz my gf's sisters' beardie died cuz she ketp it to damp and with not enought heat so mold grew, just research and you'll be okay
you should use calcium with D3 for the beardie...i have 2 and they are GREAT lizards you need UVB too but not sure on the leo...and color morph is just the pattern and colors
get a dessert decor kit from a petso for your leo. it is awsome. i got one yesterday for christmas and my leo loves it. it comes with a backround, 2 caves 1 water dish and 1 food dish. also 6 ornaments. its aawsome for a great price
hey turantulaguy1976 i dunno if u can help me ; i visited your online store and i couldnt find out if you ship to australia; and my big thing is ; would you be able to get leopard gecko cause i live in australia and really im finding it impossible to get a leopard gecko down ; if you can help me it would be tons
@tarantulaguy1976 No worries buddy its all good i might just settle for a nob tail (: keeping doing what u do ; ur insipiring me to start doing as you do (: down here in australia
@dione707 dont use sand why? impaction? thats a shit reason.
impaction is a possibility for young leo's, not for adults its about as much a problem as the sun is to you for skin cancer ( slim to none )
like most dumbasses, they feed their animal aniside their incloser, witch is the REAL key to a healthy good pet. feeding inside its home will make the animal mistake food for fingers and develope bad habits, snake owners know this best.
@dione707 if you feed it outside its cage, theirs no possibility to eat sand, thus impaction is inpossible. sand is also better, is just simply more confrable to sleep in and nessel into. and holds heat much better. i hope one day you own a snake, or a large lizard, and you feed it inside its cage, you will see the problem fast. watch the video "when tegus attack" here on youtube, it dosent attack, it sees "food" enter its cage and strikes, imagine if that was ur hand going in to grab him...ouch
Are you still looking for help I am no exspert but I know the do's and don'ts if you would still like some help with a lepord gecko but I do know a little but about the berdies. So let me know if you need help man.
benham your an ass... sorry. but how serious of research does one need for a leopard gecko?? lol - i mean what stupid input...you were such a big help!
Rob your scaring me....I'm seeing a lot of reptiles showing up on your videos...first a big frog and now these...? I hope you don't loose interest in the Tarantulas...! lol :*)
Oh and you allready probably know this but never grab a gecko by its tail or it may abort it. They grow back on but it's not as beautiful as the original one.
I have 3 beardies myself and indeed they're so darn cute and loveable but they also indeed need a lot of space. How's the little fellow or girl been doing?
I started with a bearded dragon.Dont keep them to small housed.Dust there food with calcium. And dont forget to put a uvb 10.0 or 8.0 lamp over the encloser its for the vitamine d3 to been absorbed. If you dont thy wiil get a growing disorder called rachitis.Gif them every day frech vegies 50% and water. And50% crikets ore lockust when they are bigger(dont over feed them).Thy also have to poop once a week if they dont thy wiil die.If thy dont poop give them a batch.Thy like it.
hey never put the gecko on sand just reptile carpet and alot or people will tell u sand and for the beardie it has to be 8 inches to be on sand i think but no sand for the leo good luck
Make sure u interact with the beardie like everday or else they start to become a bit aggressive.
And for the leo gecko, if you use calcium sand make sure u take her/him out before u feed. I made a mistake with mine and she got calcium all in her eyes and got an infection! So becareful :)!
looks like you got all the advice that you need from the other comments. but you can feed both of them dubia roaches and they will live fine off that. beardeds often prefer locust to other livefoods, well mine do, and also they are better for them. beardeds also will eat vegetation, however some will eat more than others, lettuce gives them diarrhoea though. geckos are easy and you can't go far wrong with them. good luck
hey rob i have leopard geckos and bearded dragons for the bearded dragon u could just buy some reptile calcium and when u get there crickets u put them in a bag and shake them up with the powder in the bag as well then feed it to them same goes for the leo also for the leo u could put a little container full of calcium just for her extra ned of calcium hope everything goes well
I had my gecko since she was maybe 2 inches, now she's five inches. i take her to the vet every 4 months. She's five years old now, and never bit me ounce!
You seem like you know what your doing with the beardie and the leo except do not use calci sand as a substrate with either of them it could cause impaction and lead to premature death.
yeah rob u cant go wrong with calcium..so they dont develop MBD metobolic bone disease..but there is a big problem with using sand as substrate ppl argue about impaction..who knows.. some lose leos to impaction some dont...id mist once a day but thats ur call.imnot sure about the humidity levels but they literally will drink off the walls.the leo gecko is just bred through selective breeding to get that morph..no hybrid there.they r aweosme animals tho.can be very bitey tho along with the beardy
Bearded Dragons need a HUGE enclosure. They grow between 2 and 4 feet long and need a humid and tall/long tank. They need a basking light and 2 hides. A warm hide with a heat pad and a cold hide with no heat pad. The same goes for the Gecko but they don't need a tall tank because they do not like to clime.
Do not leave the calcium in the enclosure over 24 hours they will make a horrible mess of it. If you are planning on keeping one leo, use that green carpet. it looks nice and you dont have ot worry about a possible mishap. I have some where around 400 leo. i am getting out of breeding them because the reptile business is very slow and people arent buying like they use to. So now i have got into the Tarantula hobby and i love my three and people like you provide alot of good info thanks again
hey Robc. i have been watching al of your videos learning what i can about keeping my Ts long term. your vids are really helpful thanks for all the info! Ok, enough butt kissing. with leos, dont use calci sand on juvis. can cause impaction. Not necessary to dust food there is another alternative. Take a soda pop plastic cap put calcium in it. I think they can smell it or something. they will lap up the dust until they have had enough.
Dust their food a once or twice a week and use UV lighting. Beardies will climb some but need floor space.
NO SAND. Such a bad idea. They can be kept on it but there is a risk of compaction and its not worth it. And yeah deffinately give the gecko a water dish. Message me with questions, I have one of each.
the babies, you dont want to put it in sand. even when it grows up, id recomend desert snow. its like a paper-type bedding. thats always safe, and they dont eat it also. your going to need at least a 20 gal. for the beardie when it grows up. (fyi, when you feed it crickets, the crap smells horrible. but when u feed it mice, it like virtually oderless. i dunno why. but its juss like that)
hey i have a bearded dragon and i use a 10 gallon tank, i do use the reptile carpet, i have a log in the basking area along with artificial plants, and i have a hide on the cold side, and the water bowls on the cold side. I also have a leopard gecko and don't use sand until it is an adult, i just have a water bowl on the cold side along with some leaves, there is a hide on the basking side, and i do mist the tank either every or every other day. i hope this helps.
i want another t i got a pet rock slash gramstola roea and a costa rican tiger rump i want a t that burrows but likes to hunt will move around and is colorful any suggestions

Asasaghghh 1 year ago
@Asasaghghh pink toes are an ok starter but i would start with a curly hair
herpdude122 1 year ago
Sand for the gecko is a bad idea, they're arboreal, and typically hail from rainforests. Now, for the beardie on the other hand, he's a desert kinda guy. Sand is definitely in his element, BUT! If you feed him in his tank, use sand that's calcium based, NO SILICA or other chemical manufacturers, they tend to be messy eaters, and will inhale quite a bit of sand.
For the beardy, they grow as long as you give them room. I occassionally powder my crickets for 'em, but it doesn't seem to hurt not to
jtkhorb 1 year ago
Dont use sand because it can kill ur lizzard because it causes inpaction fort ad let ya know

for the berdy your sun got you could use sand or carpet but sand is the most best for his emvirement because they come from the desert

k i know this is an old video and i dont know if it'll still help but my old friend had a bearded dragon and i know that its an omnivore so it'll eat the same stuff as some of your T's in adition to some lettuce and fruit and as for the enclosure they're from the scrublands of australia so id imagine having some sort of sandy/mossy bedding if that makes any sense and at petco/petsmart you can get turf misting bottles hope that helped a little(probably not tho)
Gorrilaz45 1 year ago
for the leopard gecko i would put him in a ten gallon with repticarpet do not use sand it causes impaction and u need a basking light oh and you do need to have something for humidity like peat moss or wet paper towels dont mist the whole cage just the cool side

don't mist the gecko. might not be a good idea with the live plants.
10 gal at least a paper towel substrate sand can cause impaction which can kill them, two bowels calcium and water, two hides warm spot cold spot, one a humid hide.
HerperShort 1 year ago
Yea an undertank heater is ok however it does not supply a uvb light source but uvb is crucial and yea moss is fine like T's they need humidity so moss is good and its okay to spray the moss but make sire u have adequate to dry the moss to be careful of mold cuz my gf's sisters' beardie died cuz she ketp it to damp and with not enought heat so mold grew, just research and you'll be okay

dont use sand plz for the health of your gecko?
i think you should now more by now butt r they doing ok
dione707 2 years ago
They are doing great!!!
tarantulaguy1976 2 years ago
@dione707 dont use sand why? impaction? thats a shit reason.
impaction is a possibility for young leo's, not for adults its about as much a problem as the sun is to you for skin cancer ( slim to none )
like most dumbasses, they feed their animal aniside their incloser, witch is the REAL key to a healthy good pet. feeding inside its home will make the animal mistake food for fingers and develope bad habits, snake owners know this best.
CemetaryGatesML 1 year ago
@dione707 if you feed it outside its cage, theirs no possibility to eat sand, thus impaction is inpossible. sand is also better, is just simply more confrable to sleep in and nessel into. and holds heat much better. i hope one day you own a snake, or a large lizard, and you feed it inside its cage, you will see the problem fast. watch the video "when tegus attack" here on youtube, it dosent attack, it sees "food" enter its cage and strikes, imagine if that was ur hand going in to grab him...ouch
CemetaryGatesML 1 year ago
You have to powder your crickets with calcium powder and then drop 'em in. That's a very nice leopard gecko there by the way!

tarantulaguy1976 2 years ago
Hi Robc.
And50% crikets ore lockust when they are bigger(dont over feed them).Thy also have to poop once a week if they dont thy wiil die.If thy dont poop give them a batch.Thy like it.

hey never put the gecko on sand just reptile carpet and alot or people will tell u sand and for the beardie it has to be 8 inches to be on sand i think but no sand for the leo good luck
bjanderson21 2 years ago
Make sure u interact with the beardie like everday or else they start to become a bit aggressive.
And for the leo gecko, if you use calcium sand make sure u take her/him out before u feed. I made a mistake with mine and she got calcium all in her eyes and got an infection! So becareful :)!
sharkbay1 2 years ago
your son's bearded dragon is cool !!
geckolover10 2 years ago
looks like you got all the advice that you need from the other comments. but you can feed both of them dubia roaches and they will live fine off that. beardeds often prefer locust to other livefoods, well mine do, and also they are better for them. beardeds also will eat vegetation, however some will eat more than others, lettuce gives them diarrhoea though. geckos are easy and you can't go far wrong with them. good luck
Ailurus27 2 years ago
hey rob i have leopard geckos and bearded dragons for the bearded dragon u could just buy some reptile calcium and when u get there crickets u put them in a bag and shake them up with the powder in the bag as well then feed it to them same goes for the leo also for the leo u could put a little container full of calcium just for her extra ned of calcium hope everything goes well

leopards live in nature on rocks so the sand adds a lot to your terrarium but it will only can hurt them
alikchef 2 years ago
You seem like you know what your doing with the beardie and the leo except do not use calci sand as a substrate with either of them it could cause impaction and lead to premature death.
Royalpythonguy 2 years ago
dont use sand it will kill it i got 30 of them i use paper towle or newspapper
jreej 2 years ago
dont put sand not any sand the worst sand is calci sand
charlieb1995 2 years ago
yeah rob u cant go wrong with calcium..so they dont develop MBD metobolic bone disease..but there is a big problem with using sand as substrate ppl argue about impaction..who knows.. some lose leos to impaction some dont...id mist once a day but thats ur call.imnot sure about the humidity levels but they literally will drink off the walls.the leo gecko is just bred through selective breeding to get that morph..no hybrid there.they r aweosme animals tho.can be very bitey tho along with the beardy

1992pattrow 2 years ago
Do not leave the calcium in the enclosure over 24 hours they will make a horrible mess of it. If you are planning on keeping one leo, use that green carpet. it looks nice and you dont have ot worry about a possible mishap. I have some where around 400 leo. i am getting out of breeding them because the reptile business is very slow and people arent buying like they use to. So now i have got into the Tarantula hobby and i love my three and people like you provide alot of good info thanks again
vohnholley 2 years ago
You can leave it in there for 24/7 just use a paper towel substrate because it's cheaper, cleaner, and easier
iTouchPod2G 2 years ago
hey Robc. i have been watching al of your videos learning what i can about keeping my Ts long term. your vids are really helpful thanks for all the info! Ok, enough butt kissing. with leos, dont use calci sand on juvis. can cause impaction. Not necessary to dust food there is another alternative. Take a soda pop plastic cap put calcium in it. I think they can smell it or something. they will lap up the dust until they have had enough.
vohnholley 2 years ago
Dont use sand

Dust their food a once or twice a week and use UV lighting. Beardies will climb some but need floor space.
NO SAND. Such a bad idea. They can be kept on it but there is a risk of compaction and its not worth it. And yeah deffinately give the gecko a water dish. Message me with questions, I have one of each.

no cali sand especially babies!
SouthernCaliGeckos 2 years ago
Why no snakes?
xSweetxDreamzx1 2 years ago
the babies, you dont want to put it in sand. even when it grows up, id recomend desert snow. its like a paper-type bedding. thats always safe, and they dont eat it also. your going to need at least a 20 gal. for the beardie when it grows up. (fyi, when you feed it crickets, the crap smells horrible. but when u feed it mice, it like virtually oderless. i dunno why. but its juss like that)
