  • But then your boots won't stay on lol

  • Or... You you can just use your standard shoelaces as strings.

  • Then when i use the cord my boot will fall off

  • @DJ4000VOLT my thoughts exactly. who cant carry a little extra cord anyway? silly idea. I would rather have shoes that stay on my feet and carry a little extra then risk going barefoot in an emergency situation.

  • @craig79792000 yea if you dont have a big enough backpack to carry that little extra your seriously not prepaired or to shove that little bit in your pocket

  • @DJ4000VOLT Exactly!

  • Paracord has a little to much give to use as a lace, I need my boots on tight so I don't break my ankle.

  • Back in the day, while in the army. We all would do this too our combat boots. Never know when it'll come in handy.

  • Don't burn the ends of the 550 cord, use a drop of super glue instead.

before you cut the cord, place a drop where you want to cut it, then wait for it to dry. Cut in the middle of the dried glue. You get a nice clean cut and it won't ever fray.

  • but then my boots will not stay on...

  • We used to do this in the Army. If you needed extra cordage for small repairs like sewing or snares you'd gut the 550 cord and keep the shell as your boot lace. Then 7 inner strands were for whatever it was needed for. Good post...don't listen to the ankle biters. They're the ones who don't prepare and wouldn't survive in a SHTF situation.

  • That's a good idea in fact why not just make your boots edible this way you won't starve. But on a real note if you use your laces how the heck are you gonna keep your boots on guy? You should make you laces like 10 foot long just so you have enough ;) you might need to lasso your neighbor. Just put the rope in your bob buddy.

  • I USED 550 CORD TO CHOKE MYSELF WHILST MASTURBATING.

    I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

  • 550 cord is slick shelled and dosent hold a bow knot worth a damn compaired to better laces. get your self some Wolverine brand hard use boot laces. they dont stretch like 550 cord or cheaply made laces and theyre inexpencive and last. its more smart to wear a 550 cord bracelet than having both a boot without a lace and another that cant hold a knot.

  • Dumb, dumb, dumb. If you want to carry 550 cord, DON'T use it for your damn boot laces!

  • @ishabaka It's not dumb 550 make great laces it's way tougher than store bought laces. Just don't make it the only cordage you carry in your EDC.

  • cool i have boots like those except the logo uptop. mine are Magellan

  • I'll just throw that string at the meteor or whatevers coming at me and poof its gone! Great tip guys!

  • S.H.T.F = paranoid people

  • @MrNitrozone Hmm yes because the world is so stable now a days. we just got out of the Cold war. everything has major setbacks. Evaluate human psychology for a bit

  • @MrNitrozone S.H.T.F= Educated and prepared people

  • His advice will kill someone. Bad idea.. How do you unass a hot area with out boot laces ?

  • Ok, I'm a city bitchslappin little ho that is NOT in the mood to try to tie a knot in my boots, only to find out when I'm running from some redneck that wants a piece of my tent that my shooz are fallin' off cause the know wont stay. Give me a goshdam pair of rawass worn rawhide, an some 550 cord as necklace with a great big metal cross on it. I can whip it off an whack a bitch with it, and then take the rawhide and trade it for som chaw if I had to. DONT TIE yur shooz with slippery knots.

  • I would never replace my shoe laces for 550 cord just so I can unlace them and use it later, then have no way to fasten my shoes. May I suggest a paracord bracelet? Only $5-$10 at most locations. Durable. Nice accessory. It's fashionable. Easy to store. Can come as a belt or strap. You can get more out of it then you ever will from your boot. I'm all for multi-purpose redundancies, but not this. sorry. Unless of course, it were to be used as a whole and be fastened again to your boot.

  • Ha! I'm stupid? Let me use slippery cord that doesn't want to hold a knot to lace up probably one of the most important things in a shtf scenario. Then let me use the laces to tie something down rendering me shoeless. Unless, your shot and seconds from death this is extremely stupid. The care of your feet takes priority over stupidity. If you haven't got more 550 cord or other cord than whats lacing your boots your in a shit load of trouble anyway. Yeah, 550 cord laces makes you prepared haha...

  • I love 550 cord but I think this is terrible advice. If you have good strong laces use them, maybe even keep a spare set of laces or use the 550 cord as back-up, but the last thing you need if there's broken glass or debris you cant walk on is bare feet. If you use the 550 cord as laces and take out your laces to use the strands you cant wear your boots. And in a SHTF scenario foot care is very important.

  • if the shit hits the fan the first thing i need is a good bar of soap! lol

  • Did this with a pair of boots and found a minor problem. The 550 cord is slick and securing a tight knot can not be done easily. To get around this they are tied twice. This still presents a problem as, regardless of how tight the boots are tied, the knot does not lock down on itself as it does with standard cloth or leather laces.

FTR - There is version of 550 cord available with only 5 inner strands and should be avoided as it isn't as reliable.

  • It's 7 strand's, not 5 you dumb ass.

  • wow ground breaking info somebody get this guy a cookie...

  • One of the most important things in combat situation or in a survival situation is to take care of your feet. Healthy boots means healthy feet. If you develop foot problems, you're fucked. That being said, this is the dumbest idea ever. Why is it that punks with absolutely no survival experience post how-to-videos on YouTube? You need to stop. You're giving people bad advice.

  • that was retarded..

  • 550 cord is meant to replace bootstrings if they get broken. Why would you use that same 550 cord to now become a gimping and limping cripple because your warrior gear is giving you blisters and falling off and whatnot? Not to be harsh, honestly, I'm just saying don't rely on your backup as your #1 plan.

  • @ThePresticle1 guys, you ca nremove the 7 inner strands of smaller cord, then sear the ends of the colored outer liner shut with a lighter and still have shoelaces. i think that's what he meant.. the inner cords are 80 lb. tensile.

  • the army gave me my boot and the iraq blood stains give them spirt... and your all stupid 550 cord doesnt make tie tight your boot will come lose.. find a ranger youll be fine stop waisting time trying to get ready.. with out trainging your only chance is to find a vet the cops will all be at home with there wifes scared.. ill be out on a farm growing my own food.. and if your smart thats where youll be to ,. citys are to dangers with the gangs and cops..

  • It never hurts to have extra cordage on you, actually all the time. But instead of replacing your bootlaces with 550 paracord; why not just keep some extra, pre-cut paracord to replace the boot laces when they break? You can find creative ways to attach it to your everyday carry items. Wrap some around a knife handle, or a hatchet handle. Some people even make themselves a paracord bracelet, that they can wear until they need it.

  • Para cord's ok, but American made tared bank line is much better. It comes in many flavors, and when it's broken down, it's far more useful than mil spec 550. As far as belt making goes, I agree that it's far more useful than using 550 for boot laces. Broken down, 550 isn't very useful. It's just ok. 550 belt, don't get fancy with knots. Simple chain sinnet knot's are best. They break down in a second. Just quadruple strand, make belt, and blam! Useful belt.

  • 550 cord rocks. I know this will come across as trolling, but here we go. From the comments I take it you made another video. If you did, then you should remove this one. It is no different than a video labled "amazing card trick" and having a video that does nothing but show someone holding a deck of cards.

  • @Mosbartie If I remove it all the trolls what have any fun QQing over it. =D

  • @cantbetamed010 lol, I almost regreated looking to see what the reply was going to be. I like your attitude, and I probly didnt have to come across as a dick. I get what the video is about, but as you stated, most dont know what 550 cord is. I just think you would serve the cause better by removing this video. I do understand if this is a way to get kicks and possibly a way to learn from the trolls what it is they need to hear to educate them. Thanks for being the better man.

  • @cantbetamed010 Nooooooooooooo !!! Don't remove the vid, or the terrorists will win ! tee hee hee

  • @Mosbartie

Yeah, a more appropriate/accurate term woulda been "TIP".

That's not trolling tho, unless you have malicious tone. THIS is constructive critique [only offered in hopes of efficiency for all, not to be mean/snotty].

    :D

  • @MarcusDarling4026 Thanks. I think you hit the nail on the head with "TIP". That would resolve any means of critique.

  • I can't believe that people don't get the intent of use. You use the 550 for a shelter then re-lace your boots/shoes when you are ready to move in the morning. You can lace your shoes using just the outer nylon shell of 550 if you need to use the inside strands.

If you don't agree with the info, then don't apply it...maybe someday when you could use more durable cordage instead of cheap laces...you'll remember this video and how critical you were about it.

  • what boots are they

  • @n2488 just a pair of Alpine

  • @n2488 They look like the Sports Authority brand. They are actually great boots.

  • Keep the leather boot laces. Keep 100 feet of cordage in your pack. Buy/make a paracord belt. If you have to use the paracord for trapping or whatever, you can still keep your feet properly protected. Without your feet, you DIE in the woods.

  • Is 550 cord also known as parachute cord?

  • @sailwed1 Yes

  • @sailwed1 yes

  • Det cord would be good too, just don't get too close to the camp fire!

  • When I'm standing watching you flop like a fish out of water when I slow hang you, I'll be wearin nothin but a smile, not given a damn about my boots. Merry fuckin Christmas and accept the video for what it is...one idea of many for a worst case scenario.

  • @xjoe1988x I'll stomp your ass barefoot! lol, jk, no really

  • you know whats better than that? just carry 300' of 550 cord in your pack :D wow that was easy

  • Ok hopin to get top comment, if you get into a shtf scenario you can gut the 550 chord to use for string and leave the sleave from where the 7 inner strands were and still have laces

  • I did this with my sneakers...but if i can get to my SHTF boots im sure i can get to my SHTF string

  • ....or put the cord in your pocket

  • You people obviously don't know what 550 cord is. Inside the green outer cord is 7 strands of white cord. You take these out, to use for cordage for whatever you need it for, you put the outer green cord back in your boots. You lose nothing, learn before making stupid comments.

  • @MoejoTheGreat You think this is bad? If, when, we do have a STHF scenario, these shit for brained people will be the ones trying to steal our food....and I'll have to slow-hang them with my bootlaces ;)

  • @tysy73 I'll keep my laces and let em have a 20 cent 115gr Winchester FMJ from walmart.

  • if u NEED to use the 550 who the hell cares about using the boots again? if u dont use it and ur dead u cant use those boots as is so stop cpmplaining about how u cant wear ur boots without the lace

  • Not a "BAD" idea, but why would you take ur shoelaces out? If ur expecting that bad of a need for 550 then why don't you just leave it on the spool instead of cutting it to make shoelaces. Then you have no shoelaces making it hard as hell to run, climb, or pretty much do anything but sit. How bout u take that 550 and make ur own bracelets like I did (i'm cheap). There r several DIY vids on here for just that.

  • my blackhawk boots came with 550 cord laces:)

  • For the people who don't get it, you can also wrap a good deal of whole cord around the top of your boots. 550 paracord is made up of multiple cords. Later, you can make leather laces from the zombies you've popped. (Just kidding.)

  • Unless you have to garrote a zebra, having your boots on your feet are more important to your survival. Good way to beef up your laces though. Zebra killer.

  • Great idea! Thanks for sharing.

  • nah.

  • LAME yeah what he said what if you need your fucking boots dick.

  • @jgbelmont look at the other video link..... Thats why I had to make a new video, because of people like you.

  • @jgbelmont Hardest part will pullin that boot out of your ass

  • wow, I can't believe how many people just didn't get this!

  • @RN312 i know its a good idea.... i lot of genius people would have no shoe laces, unravel the string make some new shoe laces

  • @RN312 how many of the people do you think even know what 550 cord is???? its getting old trying to explain it to them.

  • @cantbetamed010 whats 550 cord. JOKE lol..

  • High there I’m a wild land firefighter and I have been using this trick for the last couple fire seasons just for the fact that the 550 cord lasts almost an entire fire season were as normal shoe laces only last about a month how long your equipment will last is just another thing to think about in an shft situation

  • Why not have a complete suit made out of chord? That way you always have plenty of chord handy yet look stylish at the same time.

  • added a Video response

  • That's terrible advice. What happens when you take the chord, and whoops now you can't wear your shoes. Seriously

  • @Bobthenerdfighter lol you guys are funny, go buy some 550 cord and know what you are talking about before you post but obviously I have to make a video on how you take the cords out of the case for you tards.

  • @cantbetamed010 you are an idiot

  • @Bobthenerdfighter Your right, it'd be a much better situation if instead you just didn't have the 550 cord you needed. It's just better to have the option.

  • Comment removed

  • @Bobthenerdfighter name one advantage there is for not doing it.

  • @1cme1 You get to keep your boots on.

  • @JohnDoe4612 i can not put into words how stupid you are. you would not take the 550 cord off of your boots unless it was absolutely necessary. they serve the exact same function as your shoelaces would. just because you CAN take your shoe laces off and use them to tie something down does not mean you have to, and the same applies for if your shoe laces are made of 550 cord. you have a brain, fucking use it before you waste my time.

  • @Bobthenerdfighter seriously

  • This got to be the worst advice I've ever got

  • If SHTF then do you really want to be shoe string-less? Trying to run and tripping over yourself..

  • @badboy4202 not all SHTF situations include zombie pursuit. you may just need string more than the ability to run in certain situations. plus, when you DO run away from zombies, you are expected to trip and fall pathetically about once every 30-50'- what good do shoes even do in such a situation?

  • @badboy4202 thats why you tuck them into your shoes :-P

  • This is old news, but it's good advice all the same. I'm no survivalist: when TEOTWAWKI comes, I want to be among the first to die--so long as I get a good view of the disaster. However, for laces on hiking boots, 550 cord is unbeatable; especially for the cost.

  • It's not a bad idea, but I would prefer to keep my shoelaces on my shoes (be it actual laces or 550 cord). Traveling on foot with no shoe laces will lead to miserable feet which will lead to a miserable you. Just throw an extra 50' of cord in your pocket or bag and keep your shoelaces in your shoes. If they break, then use some of the paracord to replace the shoelaces-not the other way around.

  • @marlinman00 I know this NEVER happens, but what if you lose your pack!?

  • Old news

  • While your personal experience may vary, I gotta say this 550 cord will wear out is a bunch of crap. I've been wearing 550 cord as shoe laces on my everyday boots and work shoes for almost a year. They've been wet, hot, dirty, you name it. They have yet to wear out or give me a single problem. In fact, they work better than any shoe lace I've ever used, so this is not even a survival trick, it's just a better option than shoe laces, in my experience. Make sure you use REAL 550 paracord!

  • Great job!

  • Uhhh why not just buy an extra pair or two of shoe laces at walmart?

  • @damiion666 its not meant to just be shoe laces, its incase you need extra string that you dont have. walmart laces will not do anything.

  • ummm until you use it then you dont have shoe laces...

  • @simonk512 you take the 7 it apart and use the string inside for cordage but you can use the case for shoe laces

  • >>>>I agreee with bhctl bro sorry. It is a good idea that I also learned while in the Army. The thing is that it will wear quickly. If you wear a 550 cord braclet you'll notice it will fade and start to smell like dead skin cells. The best thing to do is to carry extra 550 cord all the time for that very reason. Use as you abuse.T/C bro<<<<

  • 550 works as a stop gap, doesn't last that long, it wears quickly (experience). This is an old airborne trooper trick. Best get some good leather laces and keep spares.
