end of the obstacle course should have been a mouse trap and the mouse is killed and the music would have abruptly stopped. then i would have liked the vid.
lol no wonder i can't catch that bummer in my house....no offense, yours is trained and is a pet obviously, but the one in my house...... i need to catch it fast...
kittenandtiger are you Amerikaner? That song ist german! Sorry baut, I am from Germany and that is very amazing....your Mice your training. Cool!!!!!!!
@NaschKatze003 sie folgen nur einem Lockmittel.. cool ist das nicht! naja ansichtssache.. die meisten die sich mit Mäusen auskennen befürworten das nicht!!
@AndreyCracker I am guessing you start off with 1 obstacle with a treat at the other end, then do that a few times so it gets the idea that it needs to go over it not around, then introduce another one and do the same again., etc..
For those who think conditioning an animal does not mean he has logical thinking, you shoud see an animal beeing trained by shaping. It not an abstract logic, but it is logic.
I hate to tell you but this is almost the opposite of intelligence :P The mouse has been trained by rewarding it food if it goes a certain way. There is no reasoning or logic behind it's actions, it's just remembering what it did the last time it was rewarded.
If it was smart then it would be able to work out that it could just walk straight to the food without going through the maze.
Don't get me wrong, it's pretty cool, just not smart.
really? do you grow your own food, make your own clothes?
i don't think we should discount the mouse's intelligence just because he has figured out that the easiest way to get food is to follow commands. he probably has already tried to just take the food and has been unsuccessful (food's been taken away).
Well my point was that I don't really know what context people are using to claim that mice are smart. I mean if your definition for "smart" is that they can be conditioned to do certain actions then you'd be pretty hard pushed to find an animal that doesn't qualify.
I mean you're looking at like shellfish and insects, stuff without central nervous systems, trees. So yeah, compared to trees mice are pretty smart.
Actually I beg to differ. It takes a certain amount of intellect to actually as you put it "remember" things. You dont see no snake or scorpion doing that stuff. And not to mention it takes a certain amount of intellect to allow the mouse to trust its owner. U dont see the actual intellegence behind it ,sad.
Memory does not equal intelligence. Yes it is part of what makes something "sentient" (however you want to define that) but without reasoning it's meaningless.
You could memorise a book on quantum physics word for word...that wouldn't make you intelligent. Understanding would.
And no, a scorpion couldn't do this, it's an athropod, it's and very basic form of life thats been around for hundreds of millions of years that functions almost entirely on instinct.
Just out of curiousity how many mice have you had for pets? Ive got a mouse right now that I can call and it will come to me just like a dog or a rat. Hell even rats will follow their trusted owners around the house. I dont care if you disagree with the intellect factor, but still It takes brains to distinguish.
I'm not saying the mouse has absolutly no intelligence, I'm saying it's of equal or lesser intelligence than virtually every other mammal or bird on the planet.
Fish, reptiles and insects (especially insects) and much less complex creatures and yes I'd grant you that mice are generally more intelligent than insectsbut anyway thats another thing entirely my point was that what the mouse is achieveing here is not reasoning, it's conditioning.
And im not disagreeing with you about the conditioning/ reasoning thing you have going. But still to even take on a conditioning factor or even the ability to be trained takes some form of intellect. Its just how you wish to manipulate that intellect.
my son has a little mouse ive put a vid of her on here, i wasnt sure on getting one i wanted a hamster but my son insisted on a pet mouse and its the best decision ive ever made she has never bit us and my son adores her id recomend mice as pets to every one especially as pets for responsible children
he probably had them run through that trail a bunch of times beforehand...the only difference being that there was a trail of food throughout the whole thing. so they go through it without it in hopes of gettin food
I just got a fancy mouse for christmas and I can't get her to even come near me she hides in her little nesting box and whenever I come near the cage, she acts all nervous and runs franticly on her wheel as if to escape. I don't know what to do. Please help! =(
it needs time. is it female? well if it's female it needs friend which must be female mouse too! they're very social animals. female mouse can even die because of loneliness.
i've noticed that male mice are often more brave than females.
(but don't buy male mouse as a friend to your female! they'll make little mice too much and female will die 'cause of stress!)
Hey there. I was wondering , i had my mouse for a week and it is very friendly and kind.( and alone) would this mean it is a dude? and also he nibbles or my hand calus quite a bit. How would i make him stop this? i would realy appreachiate the help!
