  • When I first saw this, I really did think it was miniature... or some CGI of some kind :O Awesome shots, and the music fits perfectly.

  • Nicely done, from an artists point of view ;)

  • I first saw this kind of video effect (like a miniature world) at the Eurovision Song Contest 2 years ago to introduce every country. I really like that effect since. I´d like to see a "how to" video, if possible.

  • @Nightyyou Thanks! This particular effect was all done internally in my camera, but if you search for 'Tiltshift effect tutorial' followed by your editing program, most decent editing programs (which I'd guess you have for your cloning etc) will have some way to replicate the effect, so good luck if you do decide to try it! =]

  • @TheL1ttleGuy Thank you very much... I have never heard of tiltshift, so I will do some research... thanks :-)

  • Outstanding. It's not every YouTube video that leads me to research the history of view cameras and learn new things about the Scheimpflug principle!

I particularly like the strong horizontal axis tilt focus effect combined with the corresponding linear movement of people and cars, and the choice of Jules' version of Mad World for music is perfect.

  • @yt3141 I surprisingly understand all of that camera jargon, so thank you very much!! =] =]

  • Well done!

  • Where did you get this footage? Was it from an Italy trip? Because I recognise almost all those places.

Very, very good. I very much approve.

  • @OnlyWorksBackwards I was in Rome the same time as your Italy trip, in half term, so I'm not surprised you recognise the places! =]

  • Awesome - I guess what everybody else is saying - it reminded me of miniature photography in those pre-CGI days! Nice job!

  • Well, to be honest, I was half expecting a tourism slogan to appear after 'Roma' at the end :P

  • @Virini Haha, I thought that too after I made it, thankfully I haven't sold out yet! xD

  • like a miniature world :)

  • What Bill said. And I love the depth of field focus effect. It makes it look like you're shooting a diorama rather than real life, kind of like the videos of model train layouts you see on YT all the time.

  • @ProFriend Thanks!! The miniature effect you mentioned was simply a faux-Tiltshift effect on my camera, since I don't have a DSLR and £1000 for an actual tiltshift lens. I have noticed tiltshift used quite a lot professionally, for instance with the BBC Sherlock's opening titles, so it is gaining popularity! =]

  • @TheL1ttleGuy My dad was a professional photographer and used lots of single-lens relfex bellows cameras - I suspect the term tilt-shift effect may have come from one of the many ways you could manipulate focus by tilting the lens and shifting it up or down relative to the film plate at the back of the camera. I'll have to ask him. He's 99, but his memory is still pretty sharp. And he still drives! Yikes!

  • I love this. Perfectly photographed and the music was spot on. Love the depth perception in the photography. Really great work here.

  • @billtvmacon Thank you!! I've loved the music ever since I heard it used in Donnie Darko, and I just thought it fit with the effect I was going for =]

  • Nice
