That's the problem with today's Power Rangers. The actors get changed every year that it's hard to like any series. I also doubt that any future series will ever be as good or popular as the first. Saban had a good thing in the beginning but now, the series isn't as good.

Those still had some cheesyness to them, but not as much as the original. Power Rangers RPM is also very good and had self aware humor.

I have started watching PR again in 2006/2007,and still am, and I have to say that I've seen the Originals were very amazing and Morphinominal because they DO have so much together! Even in hindsight, Billy comes across as totally straight. I think there should be less prejudice against gay actors' playing straight characters. Another example: I found out only the other day that the actor playing the ever-womanizing Barney in 'How I Met Your Mother' is gay. Any way, 'MMPR' rocked, despite the use of stock footage! The 1990s were a great decade to be a child.

I didnt air in my country ( Saudi Arabia ) I watched some episodes in other channels but being a kid i couldnt memorize when it aired and which channel.. I saved money with my older & younger bros. and bought the VHS of the movie and every game on the SNES plus the toys,. so I had to sav we went to the UK for 2 weeks and I screamed when I saw it on.

Apparently they shot another film altogether then the studio made them remake almost all of it twice so there could be three movies worth of films on the one power ranger film they should get that footage and see if they can improve on the film or use it to create a tv movie or something don’t let the footage go to waist

It was difficult to keep it going writing wise since they were dependent on Sentai stock footage, Its more costly to keep the same actors signed on year after year, remember the original Red,Black,yellow were let go because of a dispute over their contracts as Saban did not want to pay Austin St john the same money as what they were giving to Jason David Franks even though he was billed as the lead, So they droped Jones, Trang & Austin & replaced them with cheaper actors.
The odd thing is his comments about leaving the show have been refuted. A producer who was there responded to this whole interview. He was Michael Page-Pagter, and he has quite a bit to say about this.

mmpr to power ranger in space did stay longer. At frist I did'nt even watch lost galxy because it was a whole diffrent caste. I had to get use to new people every year.
To put a finer point on what Dave was saying at the end, as I recall Lost Galaxy was the final show that still played on the progression from the very beginning It was Mighty Morphin, Zeo, turbo, Lost Galaxy. At the end of Lost galaxy they finally replaced everyone even though Tommy was the last of the Semi Original (he wasnt technically original he came on around the second season) the rest had been on the show for a few years. After Lost Galaxy is when the shows would last only one season.
God David gives such a better interview then Jason David Frank aka Tommy, Jason is like a 40 year old kid with nothing better to talk about then the pranks he pulled on the show. But Tommy was the epitome of Bad Ass so All is forgiven. But David knows how to tell us what us Power Ranger nut jobs want to here some 14 years after the end of the show as we push thirty craving for the days when we were in childhood heaven.

So a few episodes before that happened, they made Tommy leader to make the flow seem more natural. In Goldar's arena, Jason gave Tommy a HUGE run for his money without his powers, while Tommy WAS morphed. If Tommy were bad ass, he'd have let Jason morph. And Jason ended up beating Tommy 1 on 1 more then Tommy beat him.

It's interesting that he mentions how in Japan the actors were replaced every year and although it worked in Japan, I always felt that it wasn't necessary in the North American version because as David said their cast had good chemistry and alot of fans were attached to the original cast. After PRIS, I always felt that replacing the cast every year was more distracting than creative.
@tokuanimecitvguy Maybe. I never watched the Japanese version, so I have no idea how the constant replacements worked there. But when it came to ratings, I remember zeo suffered until they brought Austin back, so I believe that many fans prefered the original cast and keeping them on as long as possible. It's sad what happened to David forcing him to leave, but at least he was present for 4 seasons, outlasting everybody else except Jason Frank.
The time when Zeo came out is also the time I'm kinda letting go of power rangers as a whole. I just didn't like it when they started trading off the original
cast members for new ones.

I agree with him, I think it'd be nice if the cast didn't have to completely change each season. I liked how they used to always have a few rangers move to the next season and get new powers. We don't need all the same people every season, no. But a few staying, while others passing the power on would be nice. Makes the seasons fit together better.

Apparently they shot another film altogether then the studio made them remake almost all of it twice so there could be three movies worth of films on the one power ranger film they should get that footage and see if they can improve on the film or use it to create a tv movie or something don’t let the footage go to waist

It was difficult to keep it going writing wise since they were dependent on Sentai stock footage, Its more costly to keep the same actors signed on year after year, remember the original Red,Black,yellow were let go because of a dispute over their contracts as Saban did not want to pay Austin St john the same money as what they were giving to Jason David Franks even though he was billed as the lead, So they droped Jones, Trang & Austin & replaced them with cheaper actors.

@selphiexfairy Because one of the producers put out a statement that strongly implied that nobody liked working with him and he left due to a combination of wanting a higher pay check/got EXTREMELY sick of Power Rangers after a couple of years. This was the first time he's pretty much talked about it so much.

I love that he says, "it's a thirty - minute toy commercial." because, as much as I loved Power Rangers as a kid, that's what I always thought. It's too bad no one makes a more adult version with less emphasis on zord fights and more of an emphasis on individuals as actors.

mmpr to power ranger in space did stay longer. At frist I did'nt even watch lost galxy because it was a whole diffrent caste. I had to get use to new people every year.

To put a finer point on what Dave was saying at the end, as I recall Lost Galaxy was the final show that still played on the progression from the very beginning It was Mighty Morphin, Zeo, turbo, Lost Galaxy. At the end of Lost galaxy they finally replaced everyone even though Tommy was the last of the Semi Original (he wasnt technically original he came on around the second season) the rest had been on the show for a few years. After Lost Galaxy is when the shows would last only one season.

God David gives such a better interview then Jason David Frank aka Tommy, Jason is like a 40 year old kid with nothing better to talk about then the pranks he pulled on the show. But Tommy was the epitome of Bad Ass so All is forgiven. But David knows how to tell us what us Power Ranger nut jobs want to here some 14 years after the end of the show as we push thirty craving for the days when we were in childhood heaven.

@77Krugg77 Yeah says you! If Jason was so bad ass why was he demoted as leader when Tommy became the white ranger? The only time I ever felt Jason was bad ass was in the Turbo movie when he was evil. When he had Tommy by the throat and said "Now Im the one with the power" that was pretty bad ass but other then that it was Tommy. Plus it was cool to find out that Jason did have some jelousy when Zordon demoted him.

@Blade5276 Lmao do you not understand IMO? My OPPINION. And Jason got demoted because the writers knew he wasn't going to be on the show any longer due to him becoming a DOCTOR. So a few episodes before that happened, they made Tommy leader to make the flow seem more natural. In Goldar's arena, Jason gave Tommy a HUGE run for his money without his powers, while Tommy WAS morphed. If Tommy were bad ass, he'd have let Jason morph. And Jason ended up beating Tommy 1 on 1 more then Tommy beat him.

It's interesting that he mentions how in Japan the actors were replaced every year and although it worked in Japan, I always felt that it wasn't necessary in the North American version because as David said their cast had good chemistry and alot of fans were attached to the original cast. After PRIS, I always felt that replacing the cast every year was more distracting than creative.

@tokuanimecitvguy Maybe. I never watched the Japanese version, so I have no idea how the constant replacements worked there. But when it came to ratings, I remember zeo suffered until they brought Austin back, so I believe that many fans prefered the original cast and keeping them on as long as possible. It's sad what happened to David forcing him to leave, but at least he was present for 4 seasons, outlasting everybody else except Jason Frank.

I agree with him, I think it'd be nice if the cast didn't have to completely change each season. I liked how they used to always have a few rangers move to the next season and get new powers. We don't need all the same people every season, no. But a few staying, while others passing the power on would be nice. Makes the seasons fit together better.

@bmbvideo I think they realized just how hard it was to fit them together though kinda like bruce timm said on a justice league commentary "it's hard doing a show with iconic characters while trying to introduce new ones" so I think letting them go was the only way they could ensure it wasn't about billy and tommy and jason or kimberly it made sure they could continue.
