Hello, I'm a Christian who is a ministry student at Liberty University and doesn't believe that anyone should try to outlaw homosexual marriage, doesn't believe that homosexuality is necessarily a choice, and while I don't believe that it's irreversible, I also don't believe that it's a sickness to be healed. "Gay Ministries" aren't needed, just Christians who accept everyone like Jesus did instead of judging everyone like the Pharisees did. It's sad that I'm in the minority.

Is it possible there really isn't a scientific explanation? People may not "choose" who or what they are attracted to, but they sure do choose where they put their genitals. Why do all the rules of self-control fly out the window when it comes to sexual gratification? Animals eat feces and will have sex with almost anything, even inanimate objects, does that make it natural? If a guy wanted to have sex with a crocodile, would that seem reasonable? Is there a "civil right" to sodomy?

I think it has to do a little bit with what you are born with and a little bit of choice. Not arguing that a person has a real choice in their orientation, there are few questions left. Those are mainly "What impacts do various lifestyles have on society as a whole?" "Is heedonism and promiscuity (irrespective of sexual orientation) good, bad, or neutral to society?" "What are the impacts of an 'anything goes' attitude?" & "If we are to place restrictions on peoples' activities, then where, and what is fair?" In these areas people can have a reasonably fair discussion or debate
As far as sexual expression is concerned, most people place others in 2 groups...hetro or homo. It really isn't black and white though. Peoples' sexual urges find output in many odd ways. We are simply sexual beings. Our attractions tend to be say 80/20, 70/30, or 60/20/20 percents towards one end of the spectrum or the other. It's interesting to look at prisons...people of 1 sex segregated amongst themselves. In that situation there are higher rates of same sex partners there than normal.
Nature shouldn't be used as an argument either for or against homosexual orientation. Many things happen in nature, including animals killing and canabalizing their young. As far as homosexuality being "unnatural," I think that can only be used in a very narrow sense...in nature a homosexual relationship, as an expression of the sexual urge, is a biological dead end, ie producing no offspring. Unless one were to make the argument that this hurts the group/species as a whole, then it's weak.

How come the ex gay ministries ever show evidence that its possible to turn straight people gay? Why are there no scientific papers showing the changing of sexual orientation within animals? How can these places claim that sexuality is malleable, yet never show clear transitions both ways? After all, if the ex gay programs are right, they would point to specific cases.

People who think homosexuality is a choice are choosing not to be homosexual, and thus are homosexuals. They don't suddenly decide that they are gay after being straight for the preceeding years. They hide who they are out of fear of discrimination or violence. Well, isn't disabilities VERY common in nature. I wouldn't be proud if I would have down syndrome. And I strongly remember that only 40% of twins, where's other twin is gay, also the other one is gay. Nobody borns as gay or as heterosexual. Some genes can turn people as homosexual and other genes can turn people as alcoholists. I wouldn't say that people are alcoholists when they're babies.

Hmm... This strikes me more as an attack on Christians than homosexual education. They stereotype "Christian" as bigoted. Churches shouldn't shun homosexuals, they don't kick out people for lying or cheating do they? Those are sins as well. I persay do not like homosexuality but there are so many good people who are. I do agree that the bible does not offer much advice regarding the subject, but I have come to develop my own theories on the subject using the bible as a solid foundation. For a long time I had trouble dealing with my own sexual orientation. But we shouldn't be to hasty to rule genetics as the sole core behind an individuals sexual preferences, much of it is also pyschological (trauma etc.)
It is more complicated than a simple choice, as Christian makes it out to be.

Hello, I'm a Christian who is a ministry student at Liberty University and doesn't believe that anyone should try to outlaw homosexual marriage, doesn't believe that homosexuality is necessarily a choice, and while I don't believe that it's irreversible, I also don't believe that it's a sickness to be healed. "Gay Ministries" aren't needed, just Christians who accept everyone like Jesus did instead of judging everyone like the Pharisees did. It's sad that I'm in the minority.

Is it possible there really isn't a scientific explanation? People may not "choose" who or what they are attracted to, but they sure do choose where they put their genitals. If you're so concerned with unsafe sexual practices alone, then you should have no problem with gay marriage or homosexuality. You would advocate that the government take watch over both gay people and straight people while they're having sex to ensure they're not engaging in mutually consenting unsafe activity.

@MarathonVeteran Studies have shown that incidental twins are not identical in every single way. However, I have known two brothers (an older one and a younger one) who both ended up being gay. I think it has to do a little bit with what you are born with and a little bit of choice. It is your choice to accept what you feel that your tendencies may be; what you feel is right or what is attractive to you. However, I do not think that people say "okay, I have decide I'm going to be gay."

Not arguing that a person has a real choice in their orientation, there are few questions left. Those are mainly "What impacts do various lifestyles have on society as a whole?" "Is heedonism and promiscuity (irrespective of sexual orientation) good, bad, or neutral to society?" "What are the impacts of an 'anything goes' attitude?" & "If we are to place restrictions on peoples' activities, then where, and what is fair?" In these areas people can have a reasonably fair discussion or debate

As far as sexual expression is concerned, most people place others in 2 groups...hetro or homo. It really isn't black and white though. Peoples' sexual urges find output in many odd ways. We are simply sexual beings. Our attractions tend to be say 80/20, 70/30, or 60/20/20 percents towards one end of the spectrum or the other. It's interesting to look at prisons...people of 1 sex segregated amongst themselves. In that situation there are higher rates of same sex partners there than normal.

Nature shouldn't be used as an argument either for or against homosexual orientation. Many things happen in nature, including animals killing and canabalizing their young. As far as homosexuality being "unnatural," I think that can only be used in a very narrow sense...in nature a homosexual relationship, as an expression of the sexual urge, is a biological dead end, ie producing no offspring. Unless one were to make the argument that this hurts the group/species as a whole, then it's weak.

How come the ex gay ministries ever show evidence that its possible to turn straight people gay? Why are there no scientific papers showing the changing of sexual orientation within animals? How can these places claim that sexuality is malleable, yet never show clear transitions both ways? After all, if the ex gay programs are right, they would point to specific cases.

It's ridiculous that anybody can say that homosexuality is a choice. To say that is to assume that you can choose who is good looking to you, who you crush on, who you are turned on by, who you fall in love with, etc, which nobody would say is true for straight people, but then they would turn around and say that about us. @espanolmuchacho really you do have a choice in a wierd way. example when you were a kid you hated broccoli you liked candy. everytime your mother tryed to kill it to you you did'nt want it untill you got older and found out that you need it for health reason and and candy for not healthy for you so you started to eat it with different stuff like cheese other vegtables ect. then you started liking it because now it tastes good to you. I know most people won't get it but you can choose somethings

@loner1878 yes you can because think about it some people who were straight became gay by choice doesn't matter how you felt inside because we all have feelins we ignore and want to do sometimes. I may like I want to punch a random guy down the street or just start shouting it was my choice. you still have people who live very straight lives and may feel gay wanted to be gay but still choice to stay straight for a different reason it's still choice because at anytime you can go back.

And its very unlikely most "jail gays" are actually gay. If you study sexual assualt (I'm a criminology student so I have seen a lot on this) you realize that rape/sexual assaults (both on males and females) tend very rarely be about sex alone. Its about power and dominance.

Studys with very accurate pet scans show gay women have brains with larger right halfs just like straight men do and gay men have even halfs just like straight women ,thus being gay is a birth defect and not a lifestyle choice. Also I think gays should be made to use gay bathrooms and showers as gays are not wholy women or men. Also, sin is making an active choice to go against God, and being gay is not a choice, so therefore, it isn't a sin. Being anti-gay is an illness, generally caused by being closeted and self-hating. This is so stupid. Everybody should know that sinful tendencies such as homosexuality is not a choice. There is obviously a genetic inclination towards its causation. However the action of commiting homosexual behavior is still a sin, and must be dealt like a sin. To commit the act that is triggered by your sinful tendencies, is the worst you can do. Homosexuals need to either try to alter their thoughts, and become self dicsiplined, or remain single for the rest of their lives.

This cartoon comes off as a big joke to me, I don't take it seriously. But the thing that drives me crazy is that homosexuals always think they are right, they always shove it in christians' faces to give them special rights. If people are born gay then why do they usually become gay when they are teenagers or even later than that? Why do they suddenly switch? @TheJerLogan : They do not suddenly switch, many gay youth pretend to come across as straight because they fear discrimination. They don't suddenly decide that they are gay after being straight for the preceeding years. They hide who they are out of fear of discrimination or violence. I knew I was gay from the time I was very young, but I didn't come out until I felt safe and comfortable in my own skin.

Well, isn't disabilities VERY common in nature. I wouldn't be proud if I would have down syndrome. And I strongly remember that only 40% of twins, where's other twin is gay, also the other one is gay. Nobody borns as gay or as heterosexual. Some genes can turn people as homosexual and other genes can turn people as alcoholists. I wouldn't say that people are alcoholists when they're babies.

@GoldiFIN u r on the right track, but it is the genes that 1 is born with that make them who & what they r. 1, because of genes is born gay. it is genetic & there is no choice n this matter. no 1 chooses 2 b heterosexual or homosexual, as well as bisexual. its a natural genetic trait. now, a choice after the fact can b made between the sexes of bisexual, but they r always bisexual, but deciding which 2 settle with is important. their attraction to both sexes will differ 2 either male or female

Hmm... This strikes me more as an attack on Christians than homosexual education. They stereotype "Christian" as bigoted. Churches shouldn't shun homosexuals, they don't kick out people for lying or cheating do they? Those are sins as well. I persay do not like homosexuality but there are so many good people who are. I even know a couple who are great parents! Attacking them is stupid, they're human. We all have flaws, and directing anger at one people group to ignore ours is a fallacy.

I do agree that the bible does not offer much advice regarding the subject, but I have come to develop my own theories on the subject using the bible as a solid foundation. For a long time I had trouble dealing with my own sexual orientation. But we shouldn't be to hasty to rule genetics as the sole core behind an individuals sexual preferences, much of it is also pyschological (trauma etc.)
It is more complicated than a simple choice, as Christian makes it out to be.

American homosexuality is just Americans being made by their categories again. We have to make everything into a goddamn category, and then the categories make us. In Asia, I'd say a majority of men are willing to have a homosexual experience, but they don't go around defining their whole lives around it. Sex is a pool. Catholicism makes what it makes of it (I happen to think it's right), Asia (humanity) makes what it makes of it, and now post-christianity feels it has to legitimize itself.
