Why Don'y you "All" get a life with these stupid ignorant racist remarks. I thought we were talking about cars. Not People's Nationalities. It's 2012. Get Over It And Get Used To It.
those were the days, unfortunately with the government sticking their nose in, the days of massive v8, and 20 foot long cars is gone....thanks to mpg standards at 35mpg coming, I seriously doubt anyone could build a vehicle that huge that would achieve 35 mpg....now were stuck with all those jap appliances, masquerading as cars...what junk...RIP full size cars...
It's just too bad that nobody makes a car like this any longer. I'd have to think that modern driveline technologies could make a car this size, with not-too-unrespectable fuel economy a real possibility.
I've had the good fortune to drive a late 70s Cadillac, and it's an experience. The new ones just don't compare at all.
They lost it when they did any downsizing at all Cadillacs are susposed to be the epitome of grace and luxury and power not "Sports sedans" if youve got the money to own a cadillac youve got the money for gas for it. Bring back 121 inch wheelbases and wide cars.
new cadillacs look like a guy with tourettes drew them and they copied his drawing exactly what with all the unnecessary angles and unbalanced preportions. and front wheel drive...
ive owned a 88 caddilac and a 96 sts.the 88 didn't have much power and the gas mileage wasn't great.the sts had decent power but terrible gas mileage.
I wish car companies were still making CARS. Unfortunately they all stopped doing that a little over thirty years ago. Don't see too many cars around anymore...
Cadillacs had style and form from the '50's through the 1975 year models. After that, nothing. GM cars, and any auto manufacturer for that matter, just stamps them out with the same ugly design nowadays.
this one is the lee-derr...cadilaaaaaaaaaaac....This One Is The Lee-Derrr....THIS ONE IS THE LEE-DERRRRR...***cue in "Bonanza-style" string arrangements***
my dad has a 1972 coup de ville with original engine and interior. The body has since been redone. It sat in our garage for two years untouched. yesterday my dad and i started it up. Without a hitch, cranked right up like a daily driver
How the mighty have fallen! I could never understand why GM management ruined their brands to the point you couldn't tell them apart and then downsized Cadillac. If you have money... you don't care about the price of gas. When they downsized Cadillac in 1985 too much... they lost it. The ones from 1992 to 96 were better, but the new design looks like designed by committee. We need another Harley Earl!
What, did the Cowsills sing "Cadillac is the leader?"
Seriously, though, nice car. The land yacht era was the height of perfection for true luxury cars. Large bodies, massive interior room, big engines. I do love the Cadillac Fleetwood Talisman Edition.
It's interesting how luxury car buyers tastes changed over the decade that followed the introduction of these '74's. No longer did buyers necessarliy want the sheer bulk of these Cads and instead wanted a luxury car with performance and handling capabilities. But there is alot to be said for the Cads of this era and style wise we'll never see impressive looking cars like this ever again.
Yesterday I've seen a 1974 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 for sale for $900 and it appears to be in decent shape, they say that it runs good too, I still see a decent number of the early 70s Caddies around in SE Washington State
Those big Cadillac luxury ride commercials bring back good memories from back in the day.Too bad the days of producing "land yachts" are gone forever.
I`ve got 2 Caddy`s, a mint 1978 Sedan Deville and a mint 1995 Sedan Deville. The '78 is still considered a land yacht at 221" in length. Both my Caddy`s are well made and i love driving on the highways in real luxury, although with gas prices at $4.20 a gallon for premium here in Michigan,i`ve had to drive less.
@Hellcat2800: Japanese cars of the '70s were quite reliable, even more so than some USDM models I have to admit, but yeah, that was one of their few MAJOR flaws.
@MiracleMile90 I disagree that Japanese cars, of any era, are on the whole more reliable than American. It's simply too sweeping of a statement to make. When I say I see 70's American cars on Michigan's potholed, salt encrusted roads on a daily basis, I'm making no exageration. I cannot remember the last time I saw an old Honda Civic, or a Toyota Cresida, for example. I'm sure such cars in warmer climes exist, but not here. I have 120,000 on my GMC pickup, and have NEVER had an issue with it.
It just breaks my heart. This was the height of Cadillacs. These vehicles had a resale value, they had a towing capacity like a truck. Awesome vehicles.

GM had some good designs in the '70's...but this wasn't one of them. Sorry to the fans out there.

I suppose that's why mid 70's Cadillacs are still common on Michigan's salt-encrusted roads? I can't remember the last time I saw a Jap car that old.
