Learn to take criticism. I know this band NMA was around way back and I do like some of this qoute "style" of music. It just reminds of the Depeche Mode, the Cure and the group that wrote Cry little Sister.
We can all agree, at least Celine Dion didnt cover it.
@DALE97DSM pop song?! lol how old are you m8?! This is an epic NMA song many years now!!! Maximum respect to NMA the only band in the world that after 3 decades they still have at least 400 following audience that have watched over 5.000 live concerts of them! (i am not one of them... i count like 9 lives so far :P)
In Karlstad Sweden they played a concert for just a Pub-amounts of people , I had to sneek at his car as i stood right next to it , it was the most easy car one can have , no BMW or something like that - and as old goth i saW that he had casette tapes with the sisters of mercy , right at his 'car stereo' , and i sorta loved that. I never attended at the real show as i just didnt have the money , but seeing the car , next to the pub was to me very cool
I love NMA, but doesn't the chorus seem to justify Guantanamo now?
Sorry, old boy, I trace English liberty back before 1642.
Habaes Corpus and all that.
Bet the Guantanamo inmates believed in lawyers fees, courts of law, proper procedures, rules of war, and wish they yanks didn't use mitigating circumstances as an excuse. Oh, and the innocent ones would prob like a second chance.
Can you translate 51st State into Arabic? It's not us, honest Guv.

@ganpati23 It is in no way relevant to Guantanamo, he is talking about taking revenge on some scum peddling drug dealer on a personal level. How is that connected to the tactics corrupt state powers use to bypass their own legal systems.
So no the chorus doesn't justify Guantanamo whatsoever, unless you take it completely out of context and don't bother to listen to the rest of the song.
I like Sepultura's version for its heavy as concrete ballsness, but I LOVE the shit out of the original. This is the first time I have heard the original. LOVE IT.
People look at this from a rock band from Brazil called AUTOGESTÃO playing New Model Army 51st State and see other videos of these guys are one of the best underground bands in the Brazil
SEARCH BY AUTOGESTÃO - 51st state of america or simply AUTOGESTÃO
imagine hearing this in the 80's when everything else was so cute and poppy. It was like a drill bit to the consciousness. SO brutal and visceral. By the time Sepultura did it the sound was becoming common.
They're both pretty awesome, but they're different styles so it's hards to compare. Love that riff though, sends a chill down the spine whoever's playing it. Oh yeah, it's a lot more wordy than most of Supultra's stuff, so it kinda stands out a bit from usual Sep's stuff.
Clearly you're the stupid asshole, because it's pretty assholish to call someone names because they like one version more than another. Seriously, that's pathetic. What are you, the music police? lol
Thought it was good Sepultura did the cover. Not quite my cup of tea, but a good version I thought.
If you like it then you should go to a gig. NMA are very good live; I think better than on the albums because touring seems to be what they want to do more than anything. Is this from Koln last Christmas?
I don't think it's specially about heroin but it's about drugs, yes. The guy wants to punish a dealer for trading drugs to his brother. "You will pay the price for my own sweet brother
Its about taking your town back from the criminals, the dealers and junkies - no police, no summon, no courts of law - vigilante rule, follow the drug dealers home and deal out your own justice

ok, yeah im pretty sure since ive been around the hardcore/punk/indie and yes black metal for about 21 years now. and no, not that mtv dumb poser crap-no message having gap rock shit either. NMA never had the goal of burning churches either.if someone burns a church under a religious purpose it still falls under the same ideology as organized religious contradiction. and still, where is the real message in that?
metal is stupid poser jock crap. these guys were punk when no one even new what the fuck was up, lets not forget they also practice what they preach- old ties with the ira, being locked up for speaking up, denied visas to the US. what do metal bands do? put out an album or 2-get screwed up on dope or what ever, and fizzle out. NMA has been around for decades with a massive cult following. if you respect the cover-respect the original.
sure about that? most metal is. true. but have you heard of black metal? the new is poser but the real bands burned churches all over norway and did a lot of other things too. that is a bit more than NMA has acheived over the years :)
asshole how can you say that a version by a band who just like the song is better than those who wrote it you braindead genetic beanbag just crawl into a hole and die or better yet go say that to the miltia
yeah free speach is fair enough but you go to a new model army gig and say that same thing i tell you the militia would literally tear you apart and musically, ethically and moraly you cant say that a cover is better you just like that version it is not better because its not original covers are done by bands who are either just starting, 40 and bored of it or struggling but please go to a gig and say that i will keep an eye on the obituaries
Metal over punk any day of the week. I never even heard of NMA until I bought Sepultura's Chaos A.D. album. So I have no intention of seeing this band in concert and arguing with the "militia."
Keep in mind that the guys in Sepultura were only about 23-24 when they recorded the cover of this, were on their fifth album, and were already pretty successful.
so what you like metal more than punk who cares new model army isnt even punk in any conventional sense all i was really saying is that you should say "i like sepultras better" not sepultras is better because its just not. you said it like its better when it isnt its a cover which is not bad. and there is no arguing with the militia unless you like getting the shit kicked out of you by cloggs
look i aint doin this anymore anything after this is a waste of time just accept that you should sai "i like sepultras better" not "sepultras better" because thats a statement not an opinion so you may look after your body but obviously not your brain so learn a little grammar and maybe you wouldnt piss people off and for the record most metal fans absolutely love NMA so they would say the original is better i know i am a metal fan speak for yourself not everybody else!
I like the Seps version better as well (Just as I like Anacrusis' version of 'I Love The World' more than the original) but I gotta give these guys credit for writing it. Powerful tune either way, with amazing lyrics.
And who (or what) is 'The Militia'? Some fanatical organization dedicated to beating up those who prefer NMA covers to the originals? Guess I'll have to watch my back....;)

Great Vid m8. Marshall Gill is a great guitarist. I've played with him a few times and he even lent me that Gibson he's playing in this vid when I snapped a string during a set in our home town!

they're both good in my opinion, of course, this is the way it should sound, it's the original, but Sepultura's version is good, it's just another way to listen to it...
love the song go check out the hunt from sepultura:D sounds great too i watched the video of sepultura and heard that the original version from new model army is:D so greeezez from swiss
La banda es buenisima y la cancion es excelente, primera vez q la escucho de sus verdaderos creadores. Siempre escucho la version q hizo "Sepultura" de este tema q por cierto es tan buena como la original.

The original is more sublime, has more tension and hey it is the original!
Sepultura gives it more agression. Like both versions but the original has something that gives it more power.

@ganpati23 Sorry man but you havn't understood a thing. The song is about personal revenge and not about war (against terrorism or any other).
I would take it more into the context of the Arabic revolution happening in north africa... but the song is not political - it is personal.
Have you ever had an asshole in the neighborhood that terrorised all? Thats what's the song about.

When I 1st heard Sepultura's Chao's AD album I thought The Hunt was the best song on it, unusually melodic given their past.
I lol'd hard when I found out it wasn't written by them.
Been a New Model Army fan ever since :D

they're both good in my opinion, of course, this is the way it should sound, it's the original, but Sepultura's version is good, it's just another way to listen to it...

La banda es buenisima y la cancion es excelente, primera vez q la escucho de sus verdaderos creadores. Siempre escucho la version q hizo "Sepultura" de este tema q por cierto es tan buena como la original.
