  • this game is awesome! =)

  • FUCK

    THIS

    GAME.

"Here, have an un-stoppable God-form that allows you to instagib everything but NEVER USE IT EVER OR YOU'LL DIE."

    Also grindan.

  • my friend told me that original developer of Bof series were passed away and this 5ft bof were made as honourary of their death..

and thid is the last game of Bof series..

  • it's actually really heartbreaking knowing that even though Nina gets healed in the end, she still won't be able to speak.

  • im sorry but ninas breathing was getting on my nerves

  • @TEEPO129 LOL yeah just about, then again it really fits her emotion upon being the first to see what the surface world looks like in over a thousand years, especially considering her condition.

  • @TEEPO129 em.. no comments.. too much hentai running through my head!

  • @rubixstetris

Too bad. Quarter was such a complete departure from the BoF formula and Jrpgs in general that it killed the franchise.

  • @drunkasaur Nope, Capcom stated it was on Hiatus. Right now, I guess, theres no market for JRPG's like before. BoF is their 4th most succesful title so I doubt they'll completely abandon it.

  • can someone explain this i dont really get it

  • WTH? imo this game is awesome but its still nothing compared to BOF4 OR BOF3

  • @Radicalvegeta meh BOF2 has got to be the best

  • I've been playing video games since I was 6. Intellivision in 1979. I've watched everything from Atari 2600 to the present, unfold.

No single game I've ever played has touched me more than this one.

    Emotion. Feeling. Empathy.

    A Stunning Soundtrack.

I've been moved by games before, but this was something else. Without words, I felt the characters... just felt.

In my opinion, this is the best game I've ever experienced in my life.

For the ones who don't 'get' it, I don't know what to tell you...

  • Ryu looks like a gelflng

  • crap

  • I hate the gameplay! This is the worst BoF and one of the worst RPGs ever; Why the stupid replay system? This game is a shame to Capcom, so they don't even dare to make a sequel.

BoF III is the most involving one.

  • *sigh* Well seeing as that there's yet to be another installment of this series for the last 9 years, I think it's okay to say that this game was by far the most disappointing of all the installments in part that it was painfully short. No one has to make compromises now people. We're free to be honest about how much this game sucked now!

  • @ChrisspacePatti

You're the delusional one if you don't anyone's being completely honest if they like it.

  • @CrazyVideoGamer1000 Well it was the opposit I know this is late. But The Eco system would turn mostly green as well, in 1000 years if all life except for plants would suddenly disapear.

  • I guess I only saw the half of ending for all these years. Now I just feel stupid for getting depress after watching Ryu dies.

  • Part* ^^'

  • I remember of playing BoF III..It was sooo cool! ButI didn even get in the lart where Ryu wins his dragon power :,(

  • killer of BOF series

  • In my version it comes with subtitles I could pass them on to you if you haven't goten them yet.

  • do u get differnent ending depending on ur d-meter? cause i dot remember this ending.

  • All I got to say is getting to the end game with a D-meter below even 30% is one heck of a feat. I managed to do it on the second play through but only by means of continuously reloading the game and getting the battle system down to an art form. First playthrough I was somewhere in the 70 and 80s range.

  • @Yurikan i got it like around 15%, havent use any special d move LOL

  • @Anf26Hollister Grats, but that doesn't change the fact the game is actually pretty challenging, which is a good thing considering that games recently have been going a bit too far into the easy street.

  • @Yurikan I know they are becoming more easier nowadays, and most of the reason is cause the items are helping a lot. Thats why I try to never use items while playing an rpg, only when its reeeeeeeeeeally necesary lol and never go to an inn hahahaha, that will make the game way harder for most of the gamers. When i see people playing rpgs and put it here online, i see them using tons of items and going to an inn to recharge, and the reason is they are doing a lot of unnecesary moves....

  • @Anf26Hollister Practice makes perfect. Along with strategy guides! =)

  • does somebody know if they gonna make a BOF 6/IV they should do it i hope they made it and this time good grafic and whit sound ehrn they speak!! plz give us another BOF!!!! :)

  • the voice actor for ryu and nina from bof 3 to bof 5 are the same actors

  • they just have to make more bof games i love it and if this is the last then im gonna b so sad

  • i dont remember seeing this animation when i finished the game???

  • @thaares It was the last part of the game.

  • @CrysaniaFay how do you mean last part, i got though game twice and dont remember it. did i had to get my d-ratio even higher to see it

  • Ryu: Now you that, I don't have to worry anymore. bla. Goodbye Nina.

    Dragon Ryu:

    Nina: Ryuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!

Ryu: I'm back. ( not sure)

this is as far as my japanese goes hahaha, and im too lazy to read the kana's and kanjis

  • Ryu: I can see the light, Nina. Rin can you take Nina ahead? I'm blabla exhausted. Bla . I'm counting on you. Rin: Can't help it, I guess. Please hang on a bit.. We'll go ahead then. Ryu: blabla person, please go ahead, Nina. I will definately go. Ryu: Our destiny has ended. (I dont know about this part for sure) Dragon Ryu: Yes, bla . Ryu: It's exhausting (Im not sure) Dragon ryu: Dragon Ryu: Ryu: Can I ask you a question? I made it here untill now, this programm. Dragon Ryu:
  • BoF 5 is nice... but 2,3,4 are better

  • They should make a part 6

  • I played BOFIV 4 PS1 i'm going to go 2 ebay to but it again i want to play it and this i have to get out of my cabnet and play i luv these game final Fantissy is so gay BOF 4 EVA

  • Wow, after all these years I finally saw the ending...I remember playing this years ago, to reach the final boss, but not being able to beat it. After some time, I decided to let go, and years later, which is now, a weird flashback reminded me of that game and then I found this :)

Oh damn, there goes a tear down my cheek...a tear of happiness and nostalgia...

  • this game is esay to beat when u have all the skills and many HP and AP i beat this game 8 times now and every time i start over i have 50.000 exp for rey i lvl him up and have nina and lin at lvl 1 so tehy can lvl up by the enemy. but when you start playing the game for the firt time its soo HAAAAARRD take so long time to beat it i had like 20% ore 30% when i was at the last boss lucky mee..

  • this game was one of the most beteful game i ever played. breath of fire 3 and 4 was my favorite and now this good story line and good grafic for those who dindt play BOF V plz get it now so u dont miss a great capcom game! i hope they give ur BOF 6 :)

  • @TheXenosaga08 part 1 was originally from squaresoft, but somehow it suddenly changed to capcom

  • @Anf26Hollister they published it for the US release, Capcom still developed it.

  • @neogalahad yeah jsut foudn that out, my bad

  • @Anf26Hollister no biggie

  • @Anf26Hollister

WRONG! Breath of Fire has ALWAYS been a Capcom franchise!

  • @Windclaw Actually it was originally owned by Square back in the day but they sold it to Capcom.

  • @CometArmagon i think its the other way around lol watch the commercial of breath of fire 1 japanese

  • @Windclaw Breath of fire I was made by squaresoft.

  • @servebot13

No it was just *translated*. Woolsey (or whoever) should've handled BoFII as well, so it didn't turn out sort of "Zero-Wing-y".

  • @Windclaw well it seems 3 against 1 hahaha

i have the original bof 1 american version snes and it still says squaresoft :)

  • @Anf26Hollister

Then it's an American mistake. The original box art for Japan says Capcom, plain as day.

    Check and mate!

  • @Windclaw uhm i dont think its a mistake, if u start up the american version it still says squaresoft, but on the back it does say capcom designed it

  • isthis game only for ps2?? is this game also for pc??

  • @derrenvictorbrown The game is only for PS2.

  • i has finished the game last week and i mast say....... it was coool but very tuff -.-

holy shit XD the story is cool and Ryu too

  • What's that song at the End?

    I love it

if anyone knows please tell me!

  • @KarshsGirl its Chihiro Onitsuka 's ''Castle Imitation''

  • @japanfe

    thanks

  • to all players who didnt appreciate this game is not a real bof fan..

  • OMG i hated this game with a PASSION!!! stupid timer thingy!! BREATH OF FIRE 3 IS THE BEST BOF OF ALL TIME!!! i love that game they should make an up to date remake. it seemed so damn long tho..u play as kids for like 30hrs then right when u think the game ends u wake up again like 10yrs later as an adult and then the game continues for another 30hrs!!! yippy!! lol

  • I would of loved this game if it wasn't for the D.Counter, whoever thought of the idea to add that to the game needs to be fucking fired from capcom and killed.

  • i played it and i really love it! but i wasn't able to kill the last boss -.- maybe i will get it the next time^^

  • For the last boss you NEED to hold the breath attack and charge your D-Counter to 100%. Then you win. If I remember correctly.

  • yes this game is hard.....still an ok game and should play but can be hard in alot of parts. Gameshark helps lol

  • @sakcajman yea,i had to use the game shark from the moment i got the D.counter on screen, that things a son of a bitch

  • Someone please reply, is this game hard?

  • @derrenvictorbrown - this game is brutal but amazing nonetheless

  • @derrenvictorbrown Yes this game is stupid hard

  • It was a major shift from the "normal" BoF series style, but I liked this game all the same. :)

This scene pretty much describes how awesome Ryu is. Condemned by Ojin's bond with him, he basically says "screw that" and tells death to go bother someone else XD

  • Is this from the English one? I never got to see the ending because of the bullshit D-Counter >_>

  • I love this game and number 4 was awsome as well

  • I Erase everything on breath of fire dragon quarter . by the way I have dragon quarter. now I have to star all over find the skills in everything. but is easy I fianly have Nina she only have G- Flare magic .

  • So funny, how Breath of Fire 1-4 are total cliches and Dragon Quarter is anything BUT. And this ending is such a tear-jerker!

  • @Sephiroth1984 I know you made that comment a year ago but saying that BOF III and IV are clichés, that's stupid.

  • @pokemaniak30

I played all the way through BoFIV and kind of hated it . . . didn't give 3 much of a chance, tho.

  • @pokemaniak30 Yess, exactly. The Breath of Fire series were one of the first video games which relied heavily on religious themes and the resultant moral ambiguity. It probably pioneered this theme in Video Games such as Final Fantasy X. At the time, they were sort of revolutionary (to us, anyways as Japan never really considered such issues controversial.). But, I love the fact that fans are so divided on this game. It only makes me want to play it insanely more.

  • nerds

  • I didn't even start BoF 5 DQ because of the D-Counter I've seen when my dad played it :p

I hope they gonna leave it out from the next BoF part if they're even gonna make one more..

  • I've been a BoF fan my whole life (I bought the original the day it came out), and this is, to me, the best title in the series. I haven't played a game this powerful since Xenogears on the PS1. Only the truest of BoF fans can look past this game's shortcomings to see how amazing it really is.

  • Dor any one needing help help with the D-counter,don't over use it till the main boss, or use a game shark.

  • *To any one*

  • Yea I do that D-Counter is a real bitch and a half.

  • use cheat codes to get to the closest save point to the main boss then reset the game and continue from that save point with out cheat codes.

  • Don't have gameshark.

  • @darkwolfzain damn that sucks.

  • Comment removed

  • I hope they make another one. But please Capcom remove the D-counter please? It makes the game virtually unenjoyable.

  • I'd really love to give this game a try. It sounds like it has a really intense story-gameplay link, something I haven't seen in a while.(Oh shit, I just spoiled it for myself)

By the way, anyone think Gurren Laggan takes a slight refference to this?

Specificly the main character and underground setting.

  • Only at the beginning. Then it diverges completely with giant robots bigger than many galaxies...

    Craaaaaaazy. :D

  • When I first saw the art for Gurren Lagann I thought it was a B.O.F. anime.

  • 2:20 - What the fuck?! Damn this piece of shit to hell!! Why, in the name of Japanese FUCK, does the main character of EVERY ANIME GAME have to go and fuckin-

4:01 ....Oh. ...Well, in that case.... DRAGON QUARTER RULES!

  • Damn right. Unlike a certain whiny, fashion challenged "hero" *cough*Tidus*cough*, Ryu comes back to life through sheer awesomeness and force of will. Epic win ^_^

  • I love this game so much. I beat it 30-40 something times! Amen!

  • Damn, I'm surprised how people like you like it so much when so many people hate it. Honestly, I did love a few parts in it but compared to the rest of the series, I'd say the first 4 are a lot better. It's just way too different and... short for one thing. One of my favorite parts though is when you get to see how Bosch really is, he stabs Ryu and he awakens his Dragon form.

  • As much of a breath of fire fan that I am (played the game since part 1), I wasn't very fond of dragon quarter. The story is really good but the gameplay was what ruined it for me. I hate being restricted to only one dragon form. The game is however one of the most challenging BoF games to date.

  • the 4th BoF was the best of the BoF series

  • i thought the 3rd one was but BoF 4 did have fou lu and he was one of the most well developed characters in the series itself and he was a god that had supreme power and saw how erroneous mankind was and came to cleanse it by seeking out ryu, it was a pretty good story.. the only reason why i like BoF 3 better is because of the dragon transformations and kid ryu, it was interesting to see how his destiny was forged since his childhood

  • ttly dude

  • what does ttlly mean?

  • u dont know it means totally dude! lol

  • no i didnt, i wasnt familiar with that slang language, sorry. its all good now. haha. :P

  • I finished the game last night. And truly loved it. My first BoF game was the fourth one. Loved that one too. But I think this game was so much fun. Really loved it.

  • @ReyinnClaige The more times you beat it, the more areas and cutscenes you unlock. :D

  • @ReyinnClaige best one is the 3

  • wooo the end of breath of fire are asowe!

=o i never imagine that this game are finish of this mode.

  • Don't know much about RPGs do you?

  • Huh well that's a huge assumption. I happened to be introduced to the BoF series through III, which is still close to my heart. Buuuuuuuut, this game has grown on me over the years and it only improved the more I played. At first I hated it, now it's right up there with my favorites. Some advice: don't judge the game based on the previous ones; you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

  • Darn right. Same with me. I got number three first and that has been my favorite game. Ever. And I mean favorite ever made. Even if it's old. But five has a lot of heart. Shows a lot more connection between Ryu and Nina and has a much different fighting system. It's not bad, it's kinda fun actually, but I don't love it. Though five has got a lot of story to tell and the fairy side-quest is good fun too with the ants. All in all, it's a fun game. Just not the same as the others.

  • well I played all of them,it might not be the best one compare to the rest, but none the less I still feel for the storyboard and like it.And in fact after I get used to the system I found that it's pretty fun and interesting too

Sometimes I actually missed the game and replay it once again by doing some challenge such as dun used the exparty/no dragon transformation during the 3 boss fight, and it is fun ^^

So I guess it's not really a crap

  • I loved number three. Greatest one of the five.

  • AAAAAHHHHH the sun and all its glory! an amazing game and the D-counter adds a nice rush. This is the best breath of fire and the music was some of the best in video game history.

  • This game was one of the best games around. Granted it's a far departure from the other BoFs, but i think there's just something about this BoF that makes me think more then the ones of the past.

Or maybe that's because the game revolves around dying. Oh wellz, one of my fav games.

  • Yeah, except there's no timer. At all. It's a race against time with no timer! Brilliant comment. Please keep the intelligent ideas flowing.

  • If that was sarcasm, them you're not really smart aren't you?

  • It's pretty traumatic when you reach 100% on D-Counter.

  • is this last one....? so it was good game serie.....

  • well that bof is good but 3 & 4 was so wow i like breath of fire 3 & 4 storys but perhaps this one got my respect too...

  • he says somthing along the lines of "Rin, take nina up ill be there in a bit..."

  • this is one of the best games ever :P

  • yeah, if you know how to manage the d counter. shiet. hahaha

  • Gosh If the game would have ended the same way it proceeded, in the darkness of some underground world with poisonous air, I'd gotten serious traumas. Im glad it ended like that.

  • i can get the script for translation if u like :P

  • Ryu was such a good character. I am glad he was revived...

  • lol Ryu in bof 3 and bof 4 :P and in bof also even thought the hair is not blue enought but the way he look it like Ryu,oh dun forget Nina also :3

  • 我が心のゲーム

  • bof 4 was the better game what i play

  • bof 4 was amazing imo

  • People who haven't play this doesn't know what it like to see the sunlight. I cried when I saw the clear sky in the ending sequence.

  • Same here, especially when Ryu saying Farewell to Nina,my heart was broken, and kept on saying "It can't be...!!!Nooo!!!Don't die!!!!"

But anyway,it's such a good, sweet ending ne xD

  • I cried when I was playing this game.

and those werent tears of joy.

  • BOF V was one of the best RPG last generation, it had an amazing art style, graphics, music, plot, characters... unique and excellent game.

    Capcom give us another BOF!!!

  • how old is this game? ive nvr seen it b4 but it looks liek an awesome game!

  • I LOVE Dragon Quarter~! I've beaten it 5 times and counting!

  • This really is awesome. I was so moved when I played this game - the betrayals by Ryu's friends and colleagues, the innocence of Nina and just the all around cool ideas of redemption and freedom the game leads you to at the end. I have to agree though that it would have been even more poignant if Ryu had just died at the end. The resurrection almost felt like a pasted on thing to make you not feel bad. But art becomes great when it moves you. If you haven't played this game, do so!

  • I was so annoyed when he was resurrected. Why'd they have to make it so cheesy? Such a perfect ending then they had to go and spoil it. He should have stayed dead!. If not for that it would be the perfect game.

  • why did lin cry

  • oh noes evil typos :/

nevermind, in the end you can compare the bof games with the great ff series ... everyone who played ff games a lot will say that ff 7 was the best in the whole series ... as it is with bof3 of all 5 parts :)

  • played this part until last week myself and i have to agree that bof 3 was indeed the best of the series if you compare the whole content itself & the gameplay +/- feeling. i played bof 5 dragon quarter 3 times a row from start to end BUT i guess the option to restart any of your savegames with all ability's, $ or the xp of your ant-farm you earned so far within a new game right from the beginning. overall i have to agree with the ppl that say bof3 was the best bof game if it comes to content

  • wtf, i played through the game 4 times and i never got this ending!!

  • I dunno, i mean i havent played it yet, and i think its really cool especially the animations but the weird character's features, i mean nina is soo not like the original ninas of the previous sequels (where is her freaking wings??! and whats with the big mark on her forehead?? she looks like an alien..) and ryu is so, not to say ugly but preferably not as good looking like the previous ones? it doesnt deserve the title of breath of fire! should be more like of a hybrid machine or something...

  • Love this game...such a unique atmosphere

  • "Thank you for playing the game to the end!~ by Capcom Staff" rofl~ yeah

  • whats the highiest d-ratio you can get?i;ve been to 1/4 as oldman,any1 got higher?

  • lol its in japanese :) I JUST beat it for the first time!

  • The story was what I enjoyed most , other than that ; not being able to save unless with a save coin has really troubled me.

  • I agree. Its a good story. Also, you can keep your save coin by storing all your important items in jaju's item locker, saving using the telecorder, and then SOL restoring. It's a usefull trick that lets you save whenever you want! :)

  • got the 1/4 d-ratio the other day. hardest thing by far.

  • yea, the tricky part is not to save once, lol, i tried that, and the power went out when i was at the first regent, gave up on it, was an epic fail :(

  • THAT SENDING SONG IS AWESOME

  • when i fought against chetyre, bosch, my dragon % was 9-10%..i never use dragonic power until the last boss..the last four leader you can beat them without the power of the dragon.....

  • its one of the best rpg games

    ever made ....

  • This must be hacked. This game is IMPOSSIBLE to finish...

  • My save file says otherwise

  • I beat it the first time I tried it without much trouble...

  • lucky...

  • LOL finished w/o a single problem...

  • breath of fire 3 and 4 were the best ones. This one was ok and frekin hard. by the time you make it there you are already like near death.

  • is he talkin 2 himself?

  • When I first played this I used up all my dragon powers within half the game and was furious to find myself at the beginning.

I went back to it a few months later and played more conservatively (using the dragon form only when absolutely necessary) and I found myself in love with the game.

This is, by far, one of my favourite games on the PS2. If you have the chance to get your hands on it give it a try and try to understand how the meter works before you shoot yourself in the foot.

  • u have to restart if u wanna complete tho, as when u restart u keep ur stats just become lvl 1 also with lower renk thing (1/12345) but i couldnt be bothered so i cheated :)

  • this is one of the best RPG i ever play in ps . it sure is hard in the first few try but once you get use to the system and the fighting style of game you will addict to it. i know a dude finish the game with ryu 's % less than 20% , no retry , no clear . clean in one shot . i finish it around 60%
