this is a treasure! thanks for sharing it. When he plays the second piece you can already feel his passion and love for the instrument, but of course some JW haters will say his playing has always been cold.
Listen to the slur on the first few notes and later in the first piece; this is JW, the original. His voice and the voice he gives the guitar says so loud and clear. I have spoken, thus it is so. Earl Ledden
Of course it's JW! Just listen to the way he makes his arpeggio "sing" and the distinctive bass notes. It's become fashionable to knock him now we've got great guitarists such as David Russell and Manuel Barrueco, but surely they stand on JW's shoulders. He was also the first to introduce us to the works of Barrios, completely ignored by Maestro Segovia for reasons best known to himself.
This John Williams has been a household name in the UK for forty years. He was a child prodigy at a time when precocity on the guitar was rare -its much less so now. Brought up in Australia, son of teacher Len Williams, Segovia heard him play at the age of 11 and considered him the heir apparent. Get to hear his recording of Bach's 1st cello suite, recorded when he was 17.
@key2kingdom His voice has the Aussie accent with just a little bit of 'plum', and his guitar playing has typical Williams dynamics. I reckon that's JW.
Priceless!

@jllobet But surely only the incurably tone-deaf will maintain that his Barrios is passionless ... nothing could be further from the truth.

That certainly sounds like his voice, and knowing his genius I would not be surprised at this.

It's not the film composing John Williams, is it?
Arman88 2 years ago

@Arman88 Not the one you're thinking about, but if I'm not wrong, he also conducted the orchestra that made the soundtrack for the film "Amadeus".

It would be great to believe this really is JW, but my belief is suspended I'm afraid.
