I don't like it anymore than you do but I do not have the room for a permanent layout so every few years I move the show car into the driveway lay down the padded bedspreads and play with my trains for a week or so. If I ever get the money to build my workshop out back it will have an upstairs loft with ample room for a real layout!
thats the blue royal set from 1940 what is the numbers on the bule royal passenger cars looks very nuce i collect alot postwar lionel train sets but i realy like the american flyer blue roal sets freight or passenger
you are correct, it is the Royal Blue set the mail car is a 494 (missing one door) and the two passenger cars are 495s the tender is pretty nice too. I got the 556 Locomotive in the early 80s at a flea market for $12 when I was about 12 or 13 years old, it had been repainted dark silver with a brush, I could still see the decals underneath I stripped it and repainted it using B&O decals, I will eventual restore the locomotive but not the cars(bought the cars on eBay)
A little time, effort, and patience, mixed with a bit of TLC, and you can have these beauties running like new. Keeping toy trains simple is the key to enjoying them. No headaches, just great memories!
Love the set-up, man. Mine's on the basement floor. A 1941 Lionel 1666, an American Flyer 322 passenger set, and a 302 freight set all run in a circuit in the utility area of the basement. I've got a Flyer Log Loader parked underneath our oil tank too.
Awesome! you just have to love running the old sets...they just have soul to them, they were meant to be played with....I love looking at them on the shelf but running them is far more fun! I wish I had a basement like you but living in the south no such luck....I'd have a big layout and would be down there a lot!!
What the HELL are these trains ding on the floor??????
