So, Republicans have had eight years to do some form of healthcare reform. Now when the Democrats attempt to actually *do* something about it, you're full of ideas. NOT.
If there's one thing you guys have shown time and again it's valuation of your own political power above the good of the people.
Your party has been willing to broadcast the scummiest of lies about 'death panels' etc. in an effort to undermine the reform effort.
Kind of funny that even Obama's own "Party" members are saying it won't work. Medicaid=bankrupt, medicare=bankrupt, social security=bankrupt. 2 different medical insurances through the government that are failing. And this President wants to add another?? He is an idiot. And if Obama is talking, Obama is lying! Chicago politics. read your history book. Chicago and Louisiana are tied for corruption. Strangely enough, they are Democrats. HAHAHA, cant wait until 2010 and 2012!!!!!
I've just listened to your comments on the MSNBC video site and your misrepresentation of the President's health care proposal. You imply that I could be forced to the public plan among other things. I've listened carefully to Obama's description of the plan.....you are basically calling him a liar. I believe in HIS characterization of the plan. Your comments are inaccurate. Show me a direct quote from the bill that says I may be forced to change my existing coverage. Thank you.
"Patient-centered health care"? That's not a plan, it's a guideline. Obama's plan has that guideline as well but with an actual plan behind it that is being drafted by congress. Tom and his team don't have much (and I wish they did).
I have to say that I am tired of polititions saying that "we" are not good enough. The Government is the People. If we put the right energy into this We can do and be better than we are now. That means government can be pushed to be better.
Republicans seem to want nothing more to make EVERY issue a partisan issue. They are only for the United "corporate" states of America. I am so tired of these people lying through there teeth, I don't see why people are still believing this garbage! Hasn't the last 8 years been proof enough of how completely dishonest this party currently is? Sometimes when I hear the comments being made by opponents to reform, I begin to think that as Americans maybe we have the health care system we desereve.
Yes Republicans are for "Corporations" and "Big Oil". I wonder why? Oh yeah, because the big corporations are the ones that are offering the jobs!!!! 8 years of lies??? What, the War? Thats all you got on the last 8 years. We had a booming stock market. Retail sales were way up. Unemployment was way down. Oh yeah, and we were safe and the world knew we weren't scared of anyone. Yeah, how dare those republicans let us live that way. (much sarcasm added) Democrats just plain suck!
Why shouldn't the insurance companies be destroyed? They're economic terrorists, for whom NO amount of money will ever be enough!
I'm not afraid of the government making decisions. I'm much more afraid of the insurance companies continuing to run things.
As someone else said, you're not the least bit interested in negotiating. Republicans seem to think "negotiating" means sitting back and having everybody else at the table give in to them. Dream on! NOT HAPPENING!!!!
Lol. Republicans can't even mount a filibuster in the Senate, and have little to no power in the House, and you're saying they're blocking reform? Fail lol.
Alright, I admit I was pretty unclear, and I apologize. As to my points, you seemed to imply negotiations with Republicans were necessary. Did I misread your comment? That was the meaning I drew from "Republicans seem to think "negotiating" means sitting back and having everybody else at the table give in to them. Dream on! NOT HAPPENING!!!!"
To me, this seemed to denote a belief Republicans were part of necessary negotiations about health care reform. I'm sorry if I misread your comment.
Republicans hold the country back??? Where do you get your facts from??? Democrats are the reason we have lower standards in schools, welfare programs, assisted housing programs, assisted childcare programs, food stamps, and all kinds of other free stuff for minorities mainly. Democrats have created more welfare type programs than I can count and that HOLDS PEOPLE BACK! Democrats want people to be dependent on the government.(socialism)Republicans want people to work and be free, happy and proud
Is there any proof that the blue dogs have been bribed? Or is this just your way of dealing with the fact that the dems are being slowed despite the overwhelming majorities in both Houses? And might I ask exactly what is the gov supposed to be reforming? The Government ought to get out of our lives, plain and simple. And it's a little slimy to assume that your opponents are out for political gain, rather than doing what they believe is right.
Is there a smoking gun that proves they've been paid off? No. They're not that dumb. However, it's well known the industry has spent a lot of money on campaign contributions to blue dog senators and key republicans such as Grassley. Research it. You really don't think there's a connection??
This system costs twice other countries with no better outcomes leaving millions uncovered and is one of the biggest sources of personal bankrupticies and you think it doesn't need reform!
In addition, a politician proves they are slimy beyond belief when they use terms such as 'death panels' in order to mislead people and drive fear into them rather than try to win a debate with rational arguments.
Sure, not every republican has made this kind of argument, but some of their most senior members have.
1. Palin isn't a Senior member of the GOP. And regardless, you're assuming shes fear mongering, and doesn;'t believe it 2. "It's well known" is a really bad way of backing up your arguments. 3. You're the one making assertions, I shouldn't have to research anything. 4. Um, no, healthcare here DOESN'T cost twice that of other countries. Many, many other countries have higher premiums. And 5. Even if the system needs work (which it does) the gov should only be regulating abuses, not general costs.
So what is your plan, Tom? "Patient-centered health care" is a rhetorical nothing-burger. There's got to be an insurance provider, one way or the other. The question is whether profit is the primary motive of the provider, as it is now with private insurers, or whether some other criteria indicate success. Like, I don't know -- patient health? Businesses free from the burden of paying for and managing insurance plans for their workers? Provide something in this debate besides a smoke screen.
you replicans never look forward to working with anyone but yourselves, we could have funded healthcare for everyone if we weren't to busy fighting 2 lost wars, sadly u are all full of bull... Dems, Rep, and most of all the religious nuts.
The following assertions in this video are either true or false. Go FactCheck them. The Gov't: 1) 1:51 will make highly personal medical decisions on behalf of patients; 2) decides what should be in your health care plan; 3) 1:58 establish a bureaucratic board that decides what treatments are appropriate & who should receive it; 4) 2:49 within 5 years establish a new federal definition of coverage, one that your current plan might not match; 5) 3:00 force people off of personal private coverage.
Show me where. All we have is HR3200 to review, and I have. Everything he says is factual. If you can dispute it with facts, point me to exactly where in the bill these things can be refuted. I'll wait.
Liberal's Utopian delusions are not the answer, but Republican are not giving up much details for alternative paths either.
Insurance is not for daily primary care - only catastrophic coverage should be covered. Primary care should be paid for as any product or service, but being a life affecting issue, paid with help from personal tax free HC accounts. People need to take responsibility for their lives and not depend on the Gov for anything, but its strict constitutional responsibilities.
Wake up.. its not about "free healthcare" Its about getting better health care at a fair price.. Stop with the Castro/Chavez bs.. We who are fighting for health care reform are not pro communist.. DAYUM.. that kind of logic reeks of 1950's commie scare tactics.. which is exactly what Fox and the right are brainwashing you with. Do you know that in Europe they pay roughly half of what we do here for health care? And do you know its alot better than ours? Of course not.. Fox wont tell you
You think you can make it work for do you guy's we all know this is lie! Corpration's make our live's bad! The goverment just back them up! You can see very clearly with the cash for clunker's program! Is this a front for a watered health care and lower class wage enslavement bill?
Why, why doesn't everybody get the idea of letting your government into your personal lives reaks of problems? Just look how their "simple" Cash for Clunkers" has turned out.
Now complicate this reimbursement process with medical terms and new, cutting edge tests, and as the song goes "You gotta know when to Hold-Em, and know when to Fold-Em" then you're up "Shits Creek without a paddle!."
Wake up! We the People! Read the Constitution! We're a Republic. Not a Socialist democracy!
I would really like to hear what the GOP can do, instead of what the Dems can't. Let the news report on what is inaccurate, get your butts in gear and start coming up with solutions. People vote for those who have the best ideas not who can coat the other side in the thickest layer of mud.
the gop is nothing but a bunch of liers. they know it and we all know it . so stop with your lies and try to get to work for the american people. oh thats right you republicans are not real americans.
I'd like to know how you can look at yourselves in the mirror every night and continue to propagate lies that will ultimately hurt the American people.
I guess the only healthcare reform you want is one where the government gives subsidies directly to private insurers and private companies are allowed to administer unregulated plans and continue to drop us when we get too sick (read expensive).
It would suit your historical strategy of corporate welfare that your corporate masters so favor.
Please stop your all out assault on healthcare reform. If you disagree, disagree honestly instead of smearing the President and propagating vicious lies and egging on the radical fringe of your party. There are so many feeble-minded fools who think they're defending their rights, but instead are defending the status quo where only the insurance companies (and their enriched Republican friends) win. Goebbels would be proud of the GOP, and why not? The GOP is using his playbook.
Sounds good?? its not.. Any option that stamps out the public ins. option will allow the Insurance industry to manipulate our health care for their corp. profits. We need the public option to force the Insurance industry to play FAIR with Americans. Why does Europe pay half the amount for health care than we do? Seriously.. and their care is considerably better judged by the UN's World Health Organization.. not the Republicans or Democrats. Worse care at twice the price? Smell Fishy?
If Republicans had good effective ideas, why didn't they lead on reforming the health care system during the last 8 years? At 53 I was laid off a year ago and it is an expensive nightmare to purchase health insurance. I wish I was old enough to go on Medicare. Everyone I know on it is very happy. With my $5000 deductible, I have no confidence in any insurance company trying to make a profit on my health. I am all for a goverment centered approach. What Price is saying is to do nothing.

It's ok. I've never it was necessary to negotiate with Republicans on the issue of health care. It was only a polite gesture.
Democrats have a full majority, and I've felt Republicans would do nothing but hold the country back.
At least Obama's tactic of attempting negotiations with them has exposed them for who they really are.
Although, in fairness, both Obama and the Republicans have been guilty of wasting lots of our time.
Have a great night.

A nice simpification which glosses over reality...
Unfortunately there are a few 'blue dog' democrats who are being bought off by the insurance industry.
This is unfortunately the nature of the system - the moneyed interests corrupt both parties.
That does not however equate to both parties being equally bad.
At least the Democrats are attempting reform, which the Republicans never did.
Of course the Republicans will try to halt any reform since they view it as politically beneficial.

The "reform" we need is for Congress to repeal the "Health Management Organization Act of 1973" signed into law by President Richard Nixon.
This act eradicated local insurance companies by requiring a "Federally Approved" HMO for all businesses with 25 or more employees.
This act gave rise to the oligopoly of giant insurance companies who lobbied for the bill in the first place.
Yet another example of the plutocrats in Washington R's and D's creating the problem and offering the solution.
