this is nice ive watched two vids today and seen plp from my 1st fire gathering that guy in the Black tank is good and he has some great throws I want his handles!!!
Of course I do. :) Everyone who is interested in the journey of Self will be compelled by our radical self expression which is, ultimately, an invitation to notice there is often more than meets the eye to a given situation.
maybe it's the other coast thing. I've never been to your area but I'm pretty sure if you tried to answer "wouldn't that be painful?" with "it feels good" you're not going to get the crowd you want, especially if you look at the demographics that a morning show brings. Also instead of explaining how the prop works when he talks about fire touching the skin, she does a back bend and ignores him. I just can't imagine doing that ont he east coast and getting a positive response.
I'm from NY originally and spent many years of my life there. My general experience is that people on the west coast are far more outward. It's obvious from how she is smiling and performing it doesn't hurt. I get what you're saying... and, no matter how you slice it, press is press. this art form is only going to expand when more people know about it. I'm aware that we drew more people to the show because of the spot including at least one photographer who took some great photos. :)
I don't think it is an other coast thing. It is an art thing. Dancing with fire is exhilarating, it Feels Good, and that makes for captivating performance. The crowds that are drawn to fire performance, circus arts, etc. are not necessarily the people who engage in these practices, but spectators who are awed by them. And, I agree with you, I would have liked to see the hooper engage with interviewer.
oh, i know fire performing isn't a west coast thing alone, if it was then what the hell am i doing with all this white gas... the west coast thing I meant was the self explorations and radical expression mass acceptance.
Personally, I thought this was a great feature. In any media piece on an artist (with the exception maybe of mainstream music acts of any genre, not counting Bjork ;p) the artist, to a non-artist, comes off as a weirdo. I don't think it's a situation specific to this spot, it's a cultural thing. As in mainstream American culture.
Truely Inspiring,so so Beautiful,I am in awe.. and will continue to be drawn to this engergy that is Poi. Thank you Glitter girl my mentor, You are all truely gifted with this art...

Yay, you guys! I love to see fellow fire tribes at play.
And yes, the local media are always fascinated and a little bit frightened, which is funny to us insiders.
