When I heard this song, in the middle of the nigth, my wife sleep softly behind to my. Then, I take her hand and her, always asleep, take my hand back... I love her, and this song makes my cry because some day, far away in the future I hope, we gonna need to go, side by side, in to the dark...
This song is as good as most or all classics. This song alone could allow him to travel the world singing it to attentive audiences. It ranks up with the best ever. Imagine you write a song like this- your entire life changes.
@lightwolf345 That's not true. Similar style doesn't mean anything. If you're saying that Owl City copies the postal service, you're saying DC4C copies Modest Mouse.
@eliwamo Umm... Death Cab does copy Modest Mouse. It's a good thing though cuz it only means they have great taste. But I mean be serious. Modest Mouse breaks out in the Pacific Northwest what, an hour from the guys who form Death Cab 4 years later, have a wack of songs that sound the same and there's no connection? Yea, right. Champagne From A Paper Cup could literally be a Modest Mouse song and anyone who didn't already know the difference would totally buy it.
@indiefan23 c'mon, i hardly think 'The Moon and Antarctica' and 'Transatlanticism' sound remotely the same, notwithstanding the completely different vocal styles. MM are generally much more eclectic and adventurous, albeit a bit less melodic, than Death Cab.
God, I love this song so much! It's been my favorite for a year and I'm still in love with it, but surprisingly, it's my second favorite Death cab For Cutie song.
Even though plans was my least favorite album of death cab's,this song was clearly the highlight,as commercial as it might be,it's impossible to ignore the lyrical warmth and pure love he put into it.
its kinda hard to explain, but its something like bass note, scrape, 2nd, 3rd (strings), scrape, 2nd string, then next chord same thing.thats for the chorus at least. the verse goes 5th, scrape, 2nd, 6th, scrape, 2nd. etc... see how that works out and let me know.
There were about 100 of us there. This was for The Craft, which was a small acoustic set and a pretty lengthy interview for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This is the way this song needs to be heard. Complete silence. Thank you SO much for uploading this.

two things.
1 - The Ben Swing, WOOT.
2 - I kinda laughed at the Acoustic word. The song is acoustic normally. :P.
Amazing performance.

i agree with TDDx8 this song is needed to be heard in silence, that way his words aren't lost in the shrieks of the crowd.
PaigeLovesGerardXx3 3 years ago 2
What's wrong with this crowd? come on, it's Ben Gibbard. Get excited. lol
