  • Thanks a jillion for more of the best ever. Loved 'em both for years, along with their erstwhile musical pal Donovan. Now there's a guy who could sometimes play Bert Jansch better than Bert Jansch - and I've heard that Bert would tell him so back in the day. The vibe of these tunes takes me back to the time when that was the vibe of the times. Peace Life Love Light

  • Brilliant.

  • Just a stunning song.

The twin guitar playing shows how complimentary Bert and John where, I love Renbourns 'bends', he is just a sweet sweet guitarist...and with with Bert's 'drawl' it's perfect..

  • I rate Bert Jansch and John Renbourn as guitarists on a par with John Williams and Julian Bream. Technically superb, and so expressive.

  • Thanks for posting this classic recording!

  • We are fortunate who appreciate the musical renaissance that occurred in the UK during the late sixties. Anne Briggs chose to step out of the limelight, and Sandy Denny left us much too young, yet Jansch, Renbourne, and Thompson remain among the world's finest acoustic players and continue to expand upon the legacies begun with the artistry of the Pentangle and Fairport Convention.

  • and davy graham

  • Seems that Anne Briggs was an early influence on both Jansch and Pentangle as well.

  • I think Bert and Anne actually dated for a time, and they wrote some songs together (Wishing Well, for instance). I also believe Bert showed her a few things on guitar.

  • There is now no question that Anne Briggs was a significant influence on Bert & Pentangle in Particular. - Also, watching Anne in #1 of Bert Jansch-Acoustic Routes, it is obvious there was a 2 way street; Anne's guitar work on "Go Your Way" is great, and has a Bert Jansch influence. --- Also great; this is my 1st connection using Linux Ubuntu, and so far, it's a great experience. -- Regards.

  • Yes, there is a posting on youtube of Bert performing in a dark bar in Chicago. When he announces the Song Blackwaterside, he mentions he was given the song by an ex-girlfriend; Anne Briggs. -- I have read a bio or something, somewhere that said the 2 of them were always seen out and about around London, and that they shared a flat together. Maybe this could be when he met a cat called Tinker & wrote Tinker's Blues(?)Maybe this was all prior to his marriage to Heather Jansch, but not sure.

  • Doing some research eh? I think this all happened around the time of his first two albums...and of course Anne's traditional influence prevailed on Jack Orion and Rosemary Lane (Reynardine sounds a lot like her version, with added guitar arrangement). You should really check out Colin Harper's biography of Bert, the title of which is derived from a Wizz Jones song called "the Dazzling Stranger".

  • Looking for Colin Harper article, I find that Anne Briggs introduced Bert to Transtlantic, who paid him 100 Pounds to do his first album, which they still sell today.

  • See my channel for more Bert Jansch.

  • Someone marked your comment as spam, but I disagree. Nice uploads!

  • No it's no spam. It's a very rare film maded during the recordings of LA Turnaround.

  • He might be at the upcoming festival in Scotland in a couple of weeks from now. Check his website for details.

  • Great song. I have known John since Notting Hill Gate in 1966 in London. Met up with him again in Devon in 1990 when he was teaching blues guitar at Exeter University. He lives in Scotland now, I believe.
