I wish there was an equivalent for Megaman. I know someone was working on an engine powered by Multimedia Fusion 2, but I'm not sure of its current status. MMF2's developer kit, or whatever it's called, is somewhat expensive iirc anyway.

I just downloaded SMBX but it won't let me change input on the controls screen over to my controller, it only has keyboard. I checked their website for a FAQ or something and couldn't find anything. Anybody know anything that could help me out?

You could try JoyToKey or Xpadder. They both allow you to map keyboard inputs to a controller. Xpadder is the better and more user friendly of the two, by far, but it costs money. It doesn't have much in the way of anti-piracy measures though, so you ought to be able to easily find an up to date Xpadder for free if you are so inclined.

I'm not a big fan of SMB3 'physics' though, but it does force you to slow down and enjoy the scenery or something.

every character has access to all powerups and they work differently, it's awesome.

playing this multiplayer is even better, because like in the title screen, it's simultaneous, not turn-based like mario 3 or world, more like new mario wii (or better, because the screen splits if a character goes further than another)
