i would have given my truest first instinct of empathic understanding & Hoped to be right that there are Only good intents going on right now.. but in ANY case, if i hadnt any money on me in sucha scenario... i*d Still do as you tried to do, Look at the possible big picture that He*s dealing with, and just pause my little world's time for that moment.. and give them a Chance.
I took her card, didn't pay her for it, and she was gesturing to some kid about how I didn't pay her for the card, saying "man" repeatedly in her creepy deaf voice. I went up to her, tore the card in half, and laughed in her face. These people think they're owed a handout. Wrong. They're using their disability as a crutch. I work with a deaf guy, and he refuses to be treated any differently. He gets my respect. This woman, on the other hand, is a piece of conning garbage.
Furthermore, you gave this creep two more dollars than I would have. In fact, some woman came up to today while I was waiting for the bus and handed me a green card. It didn't have Santa Claus on it or anything, but it said how the person was deaf and that she sells these cards for a living. On the back it had hand symbols for common phrases.
You gave him a two-dollar coin. Why should that coin have a different name just because it's not a paper bill?! The name toonie came from the media, as did the loonie name. It's a TWO-DOLLAR COIN.
Our world has changed so much, there are very few good samaritans, like the story in the bible. but most of the time, it isnt our fault, but the fault of our society, teaching us things that make us paranoid.
Because of what our society has done to us, we are no longer the superior species we should be. an animal would help another in need. but think, will humans do the same?
I always pay money to homeless and such, even if they are tricking me. Cause you see. If they are so low, that they would put themselves in that position, then, they probably need it in some way.. Also, it makes you feel better. I don't believe in God, but I do however believe in humanity...
Those people need the money, and you think that you've helped, but the money goes to the extortionist, and you've made absolutely no difference :( better, you've encouraged this "occupation".
The situation is different though in Canada, and I try to help within my budget.
Eastern Europe is full of people that make a living out of this, not even close in number to the ones doing the same thing in Canada. The sad part is that most of them are disabled, some of them are being disabled at birth to serve this purpose for some person who makes sure to collect the earnings at the end of the day.
U R such a cutie patootie. What I have learned is, it's what's in our hearts. I myself would give what I felt the circumstance rendered but I ALWAYS give. I truly have found that when I do give, I receive so much more & it doesn't have to be material things. My grandmother used to always tell me to never let a beggar go hungry, you never know if it's Christ in disguise. You're such a sweetie Matt. Thanks for your sensitive ways. You give the world FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
i knew some people in high school who swore they knew people who would do that, and it was very much an act. i also knew a homeless man who would scam people frequently downtown vancouver and his wife worked on another street...it was strange to me but he said he earned more money that way than having a regular job.
my mother would watch him from her office window going to the bank a couple times a day...everyday.
if it were me, i would write a note asking which organization he worked with.
I'd rather pay a scammer than not paying someone who actually needs the money, so I usually pay such people just a bit more than I would like to give away seeing as how I can afford it.
I need money. I am not a deaf mute. I am not homeless. I am not without a job. I simply need some money. Knowing this... can you help? Will you? Will your video viewers? Do the same questions arise for you (the universal you) as they did when you were contemplating the man on the street? I wonder.

Very eloquently told, this tale. Please don't feel bad. Your skepticism is part of the human condition in this day and age. You could have also just ignored him entirely, which you didn't.
I would have given him something, depending on how much I had on me. Not too long ago I was approached by a homeless man in my city and I gave him 20 bucks. He was extremely grateful and it made me feel good. Win win situation as far as I'm concerned.
Wow. Definitely makes me think. I think I would probably just give the minimum to be safe. I mean, I donate to other charities and such regularly... It really is just too risky with individuals, and the lengths people will go to to make easy money...
man this vid made me think...no matter what though if i had 20 bucks even if it was idk a scam i would give him money becaus even if there is a remote chance of making somone in need have a merry christmas i would.
I met that guy at the Wendy's on Mapleview. I gave him all the cash I had on me, but it was only like $7. I felt really bad for him, but yeah just like you I immediately questioned whether or not that guy was for real.
I wouldnt have really thought about if he was faking it because for some reason I think everyone is telling the truth sometimes. I think I would have gave him 5 dollars.
The state of the world is like that...people are suspisious of each other... I would be doubtful as well... Which makes me feel bad. it's sad that the world is such a dark place that people can't give without questioning their fellow man...I dunno I'm rambling...
we will never really know for sure who is deserving and who are scamming. There's a woman in my area goes around parking lots to other women and has a small gasoline can and asks for "gas money" (plus a sad story too). I so know this scam but I always end up giv
ing them "something" - either way - I never feel guilty for doing it~ ;)
There is actually a homeless man, in our town who is a deaf mute. He uses those cards for money as well. They don't put a roof over his head but they keep food in his belly, and help him buy supplies.
These cards are most definately legit, and more people should know that.
I tend to forget yur age aceblade, simply because you speak with a wisdom beyond your years, and I appreciate you sharing that wisdom.
I would have the same questions going through my head too if I were in that situation. Honestly, I rarely have money in my pocket, but if I did, I would give it to the person and consider it a donation.
Ace, I totally agree with you 100%! The same thing happened to me a few years back and I hate to admit it but I also thought "hmmm is this person actually disabled or are they just scamming me?". So don't feel bad for not totally believing that guy, because there is too many people in this world that don't care if they lie just to make some quick cash. Happy Holidays And Take Care Hun Tammy <3
If that happened to me... I don't think I would have gave him anything. I need the money as much as he does, and I work hard for my money and I don't go around asking people for money, even for charity or whatever. Buttt that's me.
I hate seeing people on the street and thinking...man if I give im money will he use it for drugs or alcohol. You didn't give him more money because you felt he was being dishonest. But I understand where you coming from. The lord did say Feed the hungry and cloth the poor. I probably would have given him money.
Blast from the past. I love the vid since day one U posted it. My two cents.

Well, I know how you feel, because when you started telling me this story, and showed the card, the first thing I thought was "is it a fake?"
So, if it was me in your position, I probably would have done the same as you, and felt bad later on.

It is a shame we live in a world now where you have to question your own thoughts on something that in the past was almost a natural thing to do!!
I come from an age Not so long ago where I was taught to give up my seat on a bus for an older person or someone disabled, Times are changing,
