  • I wonder if you know what A11 says on a clinique foundation?

  • Thanks for this! Very helpful. xx

  • Hey thanks soo much for this. this was soo helpful but im a little confused about whether my eyeshadow is from the year 2001 or 2011. The code says k11?

I also have another which is k70 so im not sure if this is from the year 2010 or 2000? x

  • hi so i have a lancome eyecream from ebay and its 18F900??

    is it 2009???

  • VEry good info thanks..

  • My Lancome has MC143F,

    Can you help?

  • Hi thanks for the video, it's very informative : ) I recently got CD Amber Diamond powder, and the batch number on it is 0P02. if the second letter suppose to represent month, this doesn't make too much sense. I got it from a department store so it should be authentic. Have they changed their system? any idea? thx

  • thank you so much for this awesome information! i was trying to figure out how old some of the mascara was that i had recently bought because it seemed very dry and no one in the store could or WOULD tell me! now i can tell THEM that i know it is old, and demand they replace it with a fresh one! fabulous info!!

  • @pamelahl1 you are welcome. i recorded this video 2 years ago and love that it is still helping people. i thiink makeup companies should be honest and share this info with people, but they dont. i am working on hopefully doing a new version of this video with batch numbers from other brands. i am doing some research but not sure i have enough for another video yet, but stay tuned =)

  • Thanks for your help

  • @Lauraellecea you are welcome =)

  • So, this means that you can have 2 of the same items with different batch numbers, because they were manufactured at different times, right? Because, I have 2 Smoke & Diamonds shadows with different batch numbers. I bought one & received one in a swap on and I was wondering whether or not the latter is fake. I would REALLY appreciate a reply. Thanks!

  • @threesthekey you are absolutely right. just make sure the one you swapped for was made in a reasonable timeframe. i cant remember when that collection came out, but it was part of the starflash collection a few years ago and i think it was part of another collection this year. usually mac manufactures the makeup a few months before the collection release date, so as long as when you decode it the dates make reasonable sense, then i would say its real.

  • i bought a select cover and it shows as A79 does this mean A first batch in in july 2009

  • @castles1100 yup you got it!

  • thanks. info like this is important to know

  • @purolara519 you are welcome =)

  • I have a lipstick that I got from Back2Mac, and it says A10. What does that mean? As in the zero? I know it's first batch of January but idk the year?

  • its the first batch in January (1) for 2010 (0)

  • Those companies do the same the same (batch coding) because they are all owned by Estee Lauder including MAC.

  • this was so helpful thanks so much, this comes in handy when purchasing cosmetics.

  • That's strange. I have a MAC eye shadow that says AA8. Does that mean it's fake? Then some of my other MAC eye shadows says A39, A88, A26, A47 and so on.

  • nope. it means it was made during the first batch done in October 2008. A=October, B=September, and C=December. You should be careful using the one that says A26 if its a cream or liquid, because that was made in February 2006, so its almost 4 years old. If its a powder, it is probably still ok.

  • Jeez 2006? That's a long time ago! :x It's a Veluxe Eye Shadow. Should I return it since it was made in 2006. I just wanna be on the safe side. What do you recommend?

  • If you just bought it, I would return it. I have done that before especially with foundation that I bought and realized it was a few years old. Powder usually stays good for a long time and since it was sealed it should be ok to use even if they dont take it back.

  • Okay thanks so much for your help. I'm returning mine. :)

  • You are SO smart; this stuff is good to know when purchasing cosmetics! You are so thoughtful to share this with everyone! Now, I can go and check my make-up to see when/where it was made....lol

  • damn you smart knowing this stuff!!

    thank you!

  • wow! thanks so much for this informative vid...this is so helpful!

    hugs sweetie!

  • aww what a sweet comment! you are so welcome :-)

  • Do you have any new videos?Thank you for the information - very helpful.

  • i will be making new videos very soon. i am also going to be having a contest with awesome prizes. stay tuned for it :-)

  • Hi, this is such a great and helpful video! Thanks! Just wondering though, do sample products have batch numbers? I have a MAC lipstick with no batch number. But it got the "sample" stickers on the box and the bottom of the lipstick.

  • i am not sure i havent received a sample product, but i bet it was on the box the product came with. do you still have the box?

  • I do have the box but it's not on that either. Does the batch number have to be straight away visible? I was thinking maybe it's under the sticker on the bottom of the lipstick itself? Don't really wanna peel it though :P

  • Great video - thanks for the useful information : )

  • you are very welcome! :-)

  • I have a mascara from Loreal that I just bought and it has 26F300 on it. It hasn't been the 300th day of 2009 yet... so that can't be true...

  • thats strange because the there are 1 too many digits in the beginning too... usually the first number is a single number then letter then 3 digit number. are you sure thats the number?

  • Yes I am sure, and I have another Loreal mascara that is says 26E602, so maybe it is different for mascaras or something...

  • I have a similar code for my foundation. It reads: 18D700. Did they change their coding system perhaps? I bought this product in Canada though so maybe that has something to do with it...do you know anything more about this?

  • Yeah maybe, because I bought mine in Sweden. It could depend on where you buy it maybe?

  • it could be... i will do some research on it and if i find out more info i will do an update video on it :-)

  • i wonder if the country has something to do with it... i will to research it and see what i come up with.

  • Very informative. Thank you for sharing!

  • thank you =)

  • Whoa this was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO helpful!!!!!! Goodness one of my MAC lipsticks is from 2005....dunno if its still good..

  • thank you :-) i am so happy that you found it helpful. I think its a great way to spot fake mac and to make sure you are getting fresh products. i recently bought a lipstick from an actual mac store and they gave me one from 2002. i said no way and they gave me a newer one. i explained the batch number thing to the workers and they were amazed.

  • Good job!

  • i've looked on ebay after watching vids about fakes and see that there are lots of knock offs and bidders that dont know anything that are spending over 200 dollers on fakes :[ thats just sad

  • i never realized i said that so much sorry

  • I would like to know how you decoded the "M" when you said that "m" means 13. So would you explain that thanks.

  • M is the 13th letter of the alphabet =)

  • Thanks for explaining that to me. I am going to try the decoding out and let you know how it goes.

  • Very informative... Thanks!

  • thank you for watching! =)

  • This was very helpful and interesting. I worked for a shampoo company for a short time and we had these type of numbers the machine would put on the bottom of the bottles. I understood it had to do with the batch number for say... if we had to recall something, we knew exactly which batch it came from. but they never explained how the number was comprised. Thanks!!

  • you are welcome! I am happy that now we know how to read those numbers... now i always do that!

  • Thank you for the informative video!!! :-)
