Straight from GHANA, in the city of KUMASI, ASHANTI REGION, AND I WAS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL. THIS SONG IS ETCHED ON MY MIND, AND IT HAS BEEN FOR THE PAST 20+ YEARS. BIG UP U-ROY
Nice to see how much love there is around the world for U Roy. I first bought one of his albums aged 13 in 1977 in England and I've loved him ever since.
jah blessings to you, planetolusola,it reminds me of days back as a kid, before i became dread,i makwa na isi gi na atu egwu baby natty day, dats the way we sang it then, as a kid.greetings to uroy for this track, pupa boogalow, ireland
Bless you PLANETOLUSOLA! Bless you!!! I have been looking for this song for more than 20 years!!! Tried to buy it but couldn't find it anywhere... My mother used to play it in Africa when I was 5 years old and it stayed anchored in my mind all this time!!! I'm 35 yrs old today and you have no idea what you've done for me! Thanks a million! The ORIGINAL DJ U-ROY extremely respected in Adeta Togo Africa. I am the living proof of that! One Love
@planetolusola More than twenty years for me ,Thank you PLANETOLUSOLA .My people in Congo said i was crazy hearing such a Music. They didn't know what
@SUGAKANE1 Yes man, West Africa rocked heavily to this song, heavily! I remember a night stop as a young commercial pilot in Warri, mid-western Nigeria when a record shop put on this record and played it loud and all the children in the area I was passing screamed with delight and ran on to the street, dancing - they sang every delay in the song "go there Natty- dre-dre-dre-dre", and you should see the young girls "cut their waist" when it came to the voice & percussion. U-Roy is big in Africa!
Yes, the original title of the song is "Go there Natty". And in the late '70s, some people who did not understand U Roy's rap called it "Baby Natty De".
as A child in m=y native congo this man used to rock . especailly my senior brother frm the uni... Go de natty dread. I wih was 5 as in da years. woalllllllaaahhh.
@blackwolverine1 It sounds like Albert Griffiths to me but it's probably someone else! I'd like to know who sings the original too!! if someone knows please hit me back !
I remembered as a teen, I used to listen to I Roy, U Roy, Dilinger and Observer in Lagos and Oshogbo. These are timeless reggae. Great Post planetolusola.
Question: I had heard a reggae music song of which I do not know the name nor the artist: the introduction of the song was:
"Big shot, is all you've got!"
Of which was shouted with dynamic power through a reverb, or echo chamber mix, before the song/music begins. The rhythmic style is that of the mid 1970's or of the 1970's era, with the rhythmetic off beat skank rhythm guitar style, consisting of some singing and spoken lyrics.
If anyone is familar with such, please indicate. Thanks
Reggae is a jungle ... want to know that jungle ... start to listen. No time? Pity for you. Besides that you have the toast versions, versions versions, toast versions over dub versions on reggae rhythms and vice versa ... enjoy. Last but not least the quantity of music from the 70's era is large.
Thanks Bro.I was barely seven years way back in Uromi in the then Bendel State when this great song was constantly being played. Those were the good old days.Big shout out 2 my Homie Planetolusola 4 this powerful song.
I was only a child then in the 70s, but I could hear this song played by most people in my Village in Edo state Nigeria. Then some parents were not also happy as some youth start trying weeds , a common herbs for meditation.
My friends back in Africa who introduced me to "hardcore reggae" used to mouth this song a lot in our boarding high school where no stereos were allowed. I have never really listened to the recording of this song until now. Very difficult song to find. I still don't have it. Wow !
what a classic! I saw him perform live in the 80's when he,mighty sparrow and third world toured Naija! The guy was truly an ace performer!when he sang Cocaine everybody went wild!!!
Uroy was at his best here. Looking at him now in his old age, it is hard to tell he sang this great. Despite the time span, I still love the heck out of this music! It defines my childhood and growing up!!!
Planetolusola,u did a great job here,it's not like the otherside, pls can u post cocoa tea music"come again, and cutty ranks"sound boy retreat.thanks and see u as usual.
I have this album in my collection....I remember back in the day when we used to attend the Literary and debating society day at various secondary schools in Lagos. This song reminds me of the lit day I attended at Methodist girls high school that would have been around 1977! That was fun!!
Wow, PlanetOlusola, brought back my teenage years! Hmmm memoriesssssss. We danced to this by skipping or dragging the platform shoes lol..U roy I-roy, Burning Spear, Peter Toch, Bob Marley. Lord, we sef don try. Thanks for the memories.
