  • These poor souls... I cry just thinking about this. No one asks to be born this way, everyone should be able to be treated with dignity and respect no matter what. I'm sick over things like this.. I'm glad it is over for these people , no more Willowbrook... good.

  • @janiegirl24 No more Willowbrook.... you honestly think they just stop doing this sort of thing? Millions of people locked in these types of institutions up into the 70's, and now they dont exist anymore? The reason there is no Willowbrook 2011 is simply because they arent out in the open anymore, which means the victims will be treated worse. It disgust me everyday that no one ever bands together after seeing the obvious proof of what the US governments not only allow, but promote!

  • To anyone who has any doubts, let it be known (do your research): Willowbrook is not the exception, it is the rule. This is type of treatment of both legitimately ill and falsely diagnosed victims is more commonplace now than ever. All evidence shows that these places were built for the sole purposes of running experiments on people society wouldn't miss much. Geraldo would never dare accuse the US of maltreating humans in 2011. Thats why he's still on TV. They 'straightened him out'

  • Watch "Cropsey" for more about Willowbrook State School! But, be prepared, cause the exposed stuff about Willowbrook is really disgusting and ugly, so be prepared to have really weird dreams!

  • Unforgotten - 25 Years After Willowbrook is on netflix Streaming

  • whatever, I have a heart for individuals with disabilties and im entitled to my opinion just as you are

  • wow some people are really disgusting with their comments many developmentally disabled people are very capable of being high functioning and independant , they are compassionate, loving , and full of life, I agree that the medical system does focus alot of resources on saving lives, but at the same time , I feel the ill and disabled are not the problem, it is the ignorant pathetic people that need to be gone from this world.

  • @spacechick30 Calling somebody "disgusting" simply because they express different (and more sensible) views than yourself makes you nothing more than an ignorant bigot. It's easy for you sitting in America with your endless supply of food and water to claim that everybody should be treated equal but wait until the day this world runs of of resources due to overpopulation. You would climb over your own family to get a glass of water if it was a case of life and death.

  • @spacechick30 heard that. people are such assholes.

  • Hitler had the right idea...kills these burdens before they strain society...Life unworthy of life

  • @MultiTrollHunter You're a sick human being, someone in my family, who we love very much has Down Syndrome, he is far from unworthy of life, you're more unworthy of life then, he'll ever be.

  • @Nerdhot If a human being is unable to maintain their own life by themselves then they are unworthy of life, it's simple. Depending on others 24/7 for a lifetime is a burden. Stop being biased and accept that your down syndrome relative is a burden. We have become obsessed with trying to save people from every disease and problem that world population is becoming a real problem. Soon we won't be able to sustain ourself and the first to be exterminated should be the burdens.

  • @MultiTrollHunter I agree. No matter how cruel it may seem, this is entirely agreeable. And people who want to troll, you really need to think. This planet is being overrun by us, and very soon, survival of the fittest, will take affect. Call me heartless, call me what you like, but it's all to true. We can show compassion for now, but what will happen in just a few years, when we begin to run lower on much needed resources. It's inevitable.

  • @charmed6057 well maybe they should get the normal lazy fuckers off welfare and ssi and get a damn job instead of sitting on there ass. many people thing disabled people get ssi not everyone i see alot normal people faking there disibilty and getting it sitting on there ass.

  • @charmed6057 In saying this you are implying that our culture's priorities of nonrenewable energy, waste and overall greed are more important than the lives of these individuals. It is not inevitable.

  • @jb55101 being deaf is different to being a complete retard. You are capable of looking after yourself and do no require 24 hour care. You would be permitted to live.

  • @MultiTrollHunter so why was i there then? some of the people there where deaf blind and retarded and had mental health so talk what you know before you judge. some of us resdents living there where doing there work that the staff people should have been doing. i would rather hang around a person thats retarded or that has down syndrome then some normal assholes and least us disbaled dont judge people.

  • @MultiTrollHunter I especially like the "retard" comment I wonder what your IQ is, many of these people who you call "retard" the correct term would Developmental Disability or intellectual impairment etc. While you sit here and write this garbage they are out working in our society at many different types of jobs, shows how ignorant you really are here is a list of disabilities where people can function as normal ,Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Aspergers,TS I can educate you on more :)

  • @spacechick30 Of course it sounds "evil" and "unfair" but i'm afraid you cannot live in a dream world where everything works out. When overpopulation becomes a serious problem (which it is beginning to be) burdens such as these will have to be destroyed at birth as many of them contribute nothing to society and require constant care. I know it's not glamorous but i'm afraid it is realistic. Please don't buy into the media hype that people who share my opinions are bigoted morons, it's offensive

  • @MultiTrollHunter you sound exactly like Hitler, who believed all the "worthless" and "imperfect" specimens of the human race should be erased. Who, exactly, would decide who are the "burdens" who contribute nothing to society? You? Some committee? There are a lot of sane, intelligent people who are lazy, useless burdens on society, too, you know. Should they go, too? As soon as we, as a race, begin treating our own kind with that sort of judgmental "I'm better than you" attitude, all is lost.

  • @MultiTrollHunter Tell the parents of a disabled child that their child has no use. I think you will get a different answer. I think the answer to overpopulation is to put down people with your attitude. It would make the world a much more pleasant place.

  • @Beatnikzombie typical biased moron. Blinded by emotion. Logic has abandoned you.

  • @MultiTrollHunter Jim, I'm half human!

  • Damn this shits fucked up

  • I'm watching this documentary on Netflix, for those of you having trouble finding it.

I have a friend on Aspies for Freedom forums, who has been trying to get the Judge Rotenberg Center shut down, because they use electric shocks to control them.

I recently became upset with her, because I felt she was being paranoid and upsetting other posters. This documentary has helped me understand her position much more. That we have to fight any place that is resembling of Willowbrook because we can'

  • @VioletYoshi it's called electroshock therapy

  • As a parent of an Autistic child, this took the spirit out of my heart. These are kids that were just forgotten then neglected and put away like they were less than human. They are also God children... is not easy. I won't say it is. But giving up on your children is unexcusable... UNEXCUSABLE. I am doing it alone, there have been really difficult days, but all they want it to be loved. LOVED. I know. I am an adult parent now who had learning disabilities myself and was forgotten...too.

  • I remember a man saying who had worked at another hospital simular to WB, saying that you can justify alot of bad when you make another human being into something less than human. My point is these people were at a disadvantage from day one, and to take that it use it as a means of treatment is in my opinion the same as murder. There were angels who tried to do the best they could, but when the system, and the admin. staff stopped caring, it was a losing battle. I cry for these people.

  • what does this have to do with capitalism...if we were socialists or commies , you dont think things like this happen??

  • The thing is, we are always being brainwashed by reports how horrific the nazis were, and its like only germans were committing these monstrous crimes and treating innocent children and people like animals. But this is just one case, that proves that no country and no particular race is any more or any less prone to HUMAN NATURE and HUMAN BEHAVIOUR. Excessive cruelty and disregard, even sadistic psychopathia... its a HUMAN TRAIT. We are EVIL... and "Evil is so civilised." as someone put it.

  • this is the disgusting and pathetically sad underbelly of capitalism... in "the greatest country on earth" .."where Americans walk with God" ... politicians were too busy chasing communists and killing innocent Vietnamese civilians to care.

  • this vid is really sad.. i cried for days after watching it..

  • those poor little babies! i hate anyone who could ever hurt them you evil people!

  • I worked with several people that resided at Willowbrook. They were sent all over NY after Willowbrook shut their doors. I enjoyed working with them, but they were very challenging with the constant fear of having clothes and food. They would fight the others because they were scared of not getting it again. I am glad the state pays extra attention to the ones that were there. After all it was NY who allowed them to live that way.

  • I was there with Geraldo....

  • it breaks my heart to see even today society doesnt recognize these american citizens. I am a mom of an autisitc son, and i worry each day about places like willowbrook, their still around i know!!! just takes one kid to get killed or abused and media finds out, we need to keep them as part of our society and not be shoved away. Theres a reason why God gave us develpomentally kids, it is challenge to see how commpasionate we are as humans

  • I'm currently in training for my new job in the program that took in a majority of the willowbrook residents. I just wanted to point out that according to the presenter in my class they didn't get into the facility with a stolen key, Geraldo Rivera who was in charge of the place upset a few people and they gave him a set date of termination, so the day before it happened he brought them in while he still had the authority, and I'm taking that as primary source information.

  • if you watch this little video called Forgotten Lives, Bernard Cabello, (an ex patient) he says they helped Geraldo get in through the back one night, they snuck him in.

  • You might be a little confused- Even if you watch this film in its entirety it tells you, Geraldo got the key from a FRIEND who worked inside Willowbrook. This friend had grown increasingly sickened by what he knew was going on inside the place; the treatment of these individuals and the inhuman sanitary conditions- AIDS was running rampant, and that's not the worst of it. His friend gave the key to Geraldo, so Geraldo could enter at his leisure and record what he saw to expose the truth.

  • dude yeah we had to watch the vedeo as part of our training(5 week corse) very said but glad to say ive been working for my ARC for 7 years now

  • I actually saw the video in in service class i took yesterday. I work @ a place like this in The Bronx, NY. This is really sad.

  • We watched this in Religion class and I have to write a paper on it. I can't believe the treatment of these poor innocent people ... they did nothing to deserve any of what they had to endure. :(

  • one of the guys in an IRA that i work at lived there.

  • I have seen this video and the original Geraldo expose..its all very moving! I would highly recommend it to everyone. These things cannot be allowed to happen.

  • video is excellent. It documents inhumane conditions that people lived in.

These people were not the only ones that suffered, but the families that were forced to place their loved one there, suffered greatly emotionally. Remember to fight for funding from the government, so the homes and programs we have now will be there in the future. Thanks to the people in the film for opening up about their heartbreaking story. We need to accept group homes in our neighborhoods. They deserve it.

  • "..the families that were forced to place their loved one there, suffered greatly emotionally."

I have no doubt that there were many family members who perhaps did truly love their family members/their children that were placed into Willowbrook. And that they perhaps found themselves in a very bad situation that they did not want when it came time for them to accept the reality that they could not sufficiently take care of this, or these, family member(s) & allow them to go into this facility.

  • But you do not recognize the reality that many ppl hated their retarded family members! Wishing that they had never been born, they were dying to get rid of them & although the treatment that the patients at Willowbrook received was certainly horrible & inexcusable, in comparison to the treatment that those patients were receiving at home, and/or would have received if they had stayed & had been raised by family, it inevitably would have been at least as bad if not worse!

  • I do agree that group homes are probably the best & most logical choice for ppl suffering from this sort of thing, but hopefully medical science will continue to make strides and afflictions such as retardation will become a thing of the past one day. We and they don't deserve to suffer like this.

  • Where's the full documenary? Google, Check ebay, Amazon, etc. It is there, just re-realeasted. It is a very important documentary and very well done.

  • Well, where's the full documentary? I can't even find the original broadcast of 20/20.
