  • Never thought Id agree with anything that Keating said, but it seems he's got a good grasp on this subject, good job Paul

  • raspberrybaggio@jerepah, Thanks for the info. I'm not surprised he was called, "The world's greatest treasurer." He speaks common sense, and as one of my friends always says, "Common sense ain't common." Our PM, Gordon Brown, is a total half-wit. Sold of loads of our gold at £250 an ounce. What a pea-brain!

  • Who is Paul Keating? Is he an ex- Aussie Prime Minister?

  • @raspberrybaggio Yes, former PM, till 1996. He was Hawke's treasurer; once he was dubbed 'the world's greatest treasurer', even though he never studied economics - sold shoes in a department store when he first left school. In fact he was a high school dropout at 17.

  • Keating was and still is a visionary. I have really enjoyed his interviews on lateline over recient years. He appears more reflective today...

  • He's done well for a high school dropout, and initially a shoe salesman at DJs... his sister is very successful as well. Not bad for fibros from out west.

  • Well let's hope that Rudd can actually get China some more representation in the G20, and the deficit countries learn to accept it.

  • Thanks for your insight Paul. I enjoyed hearing your calm and intuitive response to the global financial meltdown.
