At risk of steeming silly, or asking a question which is probrably asked on a very frequent basis, who is this "Quinn" that they speak of? And why do they describe him as an eskimo? He's hardly an eskimo? I'm confused! Saw this on Reeling in the Years yesterday and thought the song had actually been about the former irish international footballer Niall Quinn! :-P
@AnDallamullog The Wikipedia article has some interesting info (some of which may even be true). The song was written by Bob Dylan who said the inspiration for the song was actor Anthony Quinn playing an Eskimo in the 1960 movie The Savage Innocents. Although with Dylan it's always possible he's just screwing with our heads. :)
@AnDallamullog Yes, it's confusing. But then so many songs are. "Scarborough Fair" is incomprehensible unless you have the lyrics printed in front of you, and even then it makes no sense. I gave up years ago trying to understand these songs. I just enjoy them. This one has a nice sound, nice beat.
@AngryKittehPoo LOL - I dog sit for a dog named Quinn. I sing this song to him all the time. He must think, "Who is this crazy human who is singing to me?" - LOL!
@supadoopaification lol but there are hot chicks on glee....they look like teenagers, and are playing teenagers, but they're all in their 20s :) the one who plays quinn is hot too :) quinn = the blond girl
Straight Dylan Dada soundin like hunnred-year-ole whisky from Tennessee for erry redneck and his cousin to jump up off that bale of hay and hoedown...Eskimos gonna doze....lol.
Bob Dylan never intended to do anything to Rock -n-Roll, it just sort of happened. Dylan is great but Manford Mann rules. They were great at covers like Springsteen's Blinded by the Light.
Notice how lead singer sings wrong lyrics, cup of meat instead of cut of meat. Bob Dylan received the royalties for this record as he was the composer.
Read all the comments, From what Ive read and heard, Dylan wrote it after seeing Savage Innocents, Which stared Anthony Quinn, The movie has nothing to do with drugs, Just the 60s and the psychedelic words, Want the lyrics, go to Google, Type in the mighty quinn lyrics..There is not one reference to drugs..I think listeners just hear what they hope to hear, Not whats there, Was Dylan the greatest songwriter ever..No, Did he build the foundation for Rock and Roll ....Yes
