“My friend Ray Comfort has produced a powerful piece of media that leaves a lasting mark on your heart and mind. ‘180’ is 33 minutes of video adrenaline, shock, and hope. As defenders of the unborn and messengers of the Gospel of Life, we need to see this video and share it with as many people as we can.” Kirk Cameron - Actor and TV Co-host
My friends and I all came from broken families or temporarily-unemployed parents back then. Instead of feeling alienated or offended, we watched these shows aspiring to have a nice family like that someday. That's one of the big differences between 'the 80s' attitude to stay motivated and get your ass in gear, and today's political correctness against being 'fooled' by artificial images of family and success. ~Artificial? So what? I like it.~
I grew up watching this with my sister. Her and I haven't always gotten along smoothly, she's dealt with depression, I haven't done all I could to be closer. But if there is one thing that brings us together its this show and song. No matter what, she is always happy and ready to duet this song with me. I love you Sis
We live in an amazing world where I can wake up from a nap on a Saturday afternoon with the Growing Pains theme song and an urge to listen to it, and my urge is almost instantly granted. Thanks, Internet.
Like this if you remember hanging out with your family on saturday nights in the 90s watching Growing Pains, The Wonder Years, Boy Meets World, The Brady Bunch, and Happy Days.
@thedisneygirl1234 if you are as old as your comment makes you sound from remembering when growing pains and the wonder years were on you may be a bit 2 old to start a comment off with " like this if"
@Lu70sChild80sFan yeah real world was the first reality show I think and even back then it wasn't trash but yeah it's sad theres no real tv shows out there instead we got basketball wives and loads of other bullshit
I really think 'Reality TV' killed all these great shows, I hate to say! I only liked the Real World up to about 1998 at the latest, but that's it...At the same time, it did ruin all these great shows...Or what could've been if the Real World had not started in 1992! Then came the Hills, Real Housewives crap, etc...SUCKED the talent right out of everyone!
what is nostalgia? this is nostalgia. watching ep. 1 of pokemon is nostalgia. Blues clues & saturday morning cartoons is nostalgia. before Friends came along, growing pains was right up there with my favorite shows, though i couldnt have been older than 5 or 6 years old
now you see 8 yr olds playing COD, watching jersey shore. society changes, but you really do feel sorry for them...
Those were the days, back before we invented sexual overtones ... heck, they could've made the theme-song AC/DC's "Big Balls," except the family didn't do so much public dancing :-)
When I see this show and hear this song, it really takes me back to those days, like a time machine. Does anyone else feel this way? It takes me back to a time where pop music was sweeter and more melodious (such as Debbie Gibson and Tiffany).......
this was my childhood, if a show like this came back out and you went to look at its theme on the youtube you would see 3,000 'this is gay' comments, i must be getting old because i miss this crap
I had some dream years ago that my sister and I were cleaning the house and this opening theme was playing on TV. It was like during summer (in the dream) and I woke up to a school day in the winter. Kind of sucked but that dream is what caused this song to stick forever with me.
This is a song I have on my MP3. It's for me . I'm a true dreamer. It fills me up with good feelings inside. It has an excellent message. When the song mentions the part about the luckiest dreamers , it makes me think of an actor. a person is an actor. Luckiest dreamers means that acting is for dreamers . Dreamers who have the determination to make it big.
@Raydeen1 you realize that internet was hardly a peice of anything until the mid 90s it was created in the 60s but was going nowhere until finally a company created by younger people took over the preoject in the 80s and made it possible for the public to use it in 1995 (faced) /endcorrection
The internet was only available for mainstream use in the 90s the internet your thinking of is completely obsolete and makes no sense it was going nowhere so when you were much younger you had mail which may be confused with email
What ever happened to kirk Cameron, He was such a promising young actor, But it seems like he totally faded away after playing the role of Mike Seaver on growing pains
Awesome show...I used to watch this show in Berlin, Germany before it even comes out there. I lived quite close to an US military airbase in the US occupied section of Berlin and there I actually could receive the military TV channel AFN ( Armed Forces Network ) which had GROWING PAINS on their program.
So i can say I watch this show in english in Germany first!
grew up watching this show...it was a shame to hear about boner guess he couldnt really get anyother gigs after he got stuck with the tittle "boner from growing pains"
Kirk Cameren is a born-again christian as far as i know. I dont think he is crazy but has a different style thats all. He want people in heaven and Jesus said that people would be offended in us if we live for him. Jesus Freak is a compliment for him. All christians get called names sometimes and some even die in parts of the world. We should support him not join with the insults because he is a brother in the Lord Jesus Christ.
kirk cameren makes christians look nuts. i am a christians. i yes people need jesus in their hearts. but this guy is nuts. really. you don't get people saved by saying their going to hell. you ask them to go to church with you. and the holy sprit and god speaks to their hearts. those interviews his does on his show are crazy.
Classic Nick at Night! Who else remembers jumping on the couch with your family and watching growing pains, the wonder years, the brady bunch, happy days, and all that GOOD WHOLESOME TV THAT TEACHES YOU SOMETHING.
I've been watching Growing Pains reruns, finished season 5 and now watching 6, is it just me or did they completely fuck this show up? That little girl Crissy looks to have grown 5 years in one season, and the show seems to be based around her annoying character. Mike, Carol and Ben are like goofy background characters, lucky to get in one line per show. Does it get better because it is
Yeah, we didn't know it at the time, but life was so much simpler. I mean, there was no Internet, you didn't have people running around with cell phones(You actually had to wait at home for a call..LOL), there were no blogs, chat rooms, etc. I'm glad that I got to experience life back then because these kids today will never be able to do that.
I totally agree with you. And it makes me depressed to think about how it is now in the present. I honestly wish I could've stayed in the early 90s. Life seemed SOO much better. Unfortunately, I was born in 90 so I was young but I still know things were much better. I hate what technology has done to this world.
@raydeen1 they will if u spend time with them and show them a life outside of these things. i had internet at my house since 12, but i still enjoyed playing cards/scrabble/monopoly with my family, going out on bikes with my sister, etc, talking to mum (which i still do) over tea.
@raydeen1 lol u "old people" are funny! i miss the old days! lol but you guys are all over the internet that us young people created! ur more than able to NOT use the computer, cell phones, and other inventions if it bothers you so much! lol
Hey, I got no beef with technology. I love it. But...I am glad that I got to experience the world before the Internet, cell phones and everything else. The kids today will never have a chance to sample that kind of place because it is gone forever. Oh, by the way, the Internet was actually invented when I was much younger, so you "young guys" can't take credit for that one.
@bigmoneyrog Computers and the internet were invented by "old" people way before you were born. Your generation hasn't invented anything. The most your generation can take credit for is a social network site that only serves to make life easier for identity thieves and pedophiles!
@raydeen1 yet here you are using the internet to watch and reminisce about the past, it it never existed you wouldn't even be able to relive and enjoy your past :)
@raydeen1 man calm down, just like the people before you said the same thing about TV, and the older you go back they said the same thing about going to movies instead of plays. The argument u make against the internet can easily be used against TV and your generation.
@raydeen1 Everything changes. From my point of view, life got simpler. You can do a lot more, just sitting at home, you don't have to worry about distance anymore (internet and cell phones) when it comes to keeping in touch. Blogs and chat rooms are great for sharing ideas. Yeah, life today's good too!
@Saerain You just talk, and talk, and talk. Try not talking for once. People might respect you more if they see that, not only can you talk, but you can just shut up for a little while too.
People today have no idea how dominant this show was back in the day. It was everywhere. So much so that I got sick of it. It's funny because it's been gone for so long and you never hear anything about it anymore, but back in the late 80's this thing just was everywhere.
To clarify Dopestarslove's terms; "Douche" is his definition of a hardcore Christian. Other than that he is a faithful Family man and he continues to act in B movies.
Oh yeah, mine too. I would have hoped that reality t.v. would have died off by now. Or at the very least we could get these kinda great / well written family sitcoms back.
I agree, shows now days will NEVER compare to what the 80's had. By the time 1999 came and when 2000 finally came, i was like, wow, i hope the 2000's really blow us away. Well, NOT really. If i had a time machine......
@Anarchist86ed You got a boner from the mom? I can understand Chelsea Noble who played Kirk's Girlfriend on the show. His real wife BTW or maybe Tracey Gold but the mom?
@SenhorBundy Yes! I am watching the Growing Pains reruns on 7TWO. They usually change the time format which is a pain in the ass. They just started playing this show Perfect Strangers which I've never seen. Hope they play Full House again. It's great to hear someone my age is enjoying these shows as well, most people are watching crap like Home and Away, Glee, Neighbours. Pff shithouse! 80's rock.
man i am so an 80s baby and all the good family shows are no longer........the shows relfected what the family structure was back then for now it is no longer and its soo sad.....every thing is punk az reality tv.....gosh wish it stayed the 80s
do the young generation REALLY need their crap on tv? We could easily just show them reruns (well reruns to us) of the great 70s to mid 90s sitcoms......plus they would be a little better off.
i dont think hannah montana really taught any decent lessons to kids...except how to be a skank..lol
I remember watching this while making dinner with my mom and brother. I miss that...when life was simpler, families had dinner together, and TV shows were about families who loved each other. <3
Do you guys think that kirk and the rest of the cast were there for tracey when she was going through her anorexia? I mean do you think they talked to her about it or 'kinda just turned the other way? I've always wondered...
wow. time and place. so many sitcoms in the 80's were these loving families who stood by each other and always bonded together to overcome their problems. dysfunctional what? Also even the cartoons in the 80's had a moral to the story, good overcame. the shit on the tv today, i swear. its turning our kids into idiots and it makes me sick

Blogs and chat rooms are great for sharing ideas. Yeah, life today's good too!
DarkMugiwara 5 months ago
@raydeen1 I agree. As much as I love the internet. I wish sometimes the world can just shut it down for a week so we can ground ourselves again.

@Saerain You just talk, and talk, and talk. Try not talking for once. People might respect you more if they see that, not only can you talk, but you can just shut up for a little while too.

@raydeen1 Good evidence that nostalgia is not only masochistic, but also sadistic.

Other than that he is a faithful Family man and he continues to act in B movies.
phillimon40 9 months ago
So sad that Kirk Cameron grew up to be a douche.
Dopestarslove 9 months ago
These were some good yrs. for the show.
jayce79 9 months ago
@jayce79 These were the best years of my life. All this reality crap on TV is no where near as great IMO.
SVPrelude 9 months ago
@SVPrelude

If i had a time machine......

tuddyfruity4 10 months ago
This show was shit. Friend's name was boner. Good theme though. I still have nightmares about that summer we went without cable.
WolfattheDoor20 10 months ago
@WolfattheDoor20 Yeah it was a shit, but I bet you got a boner for the mom on that show.
Anarchist86ed 10 months ago
@Anarchist86ed You got a boner from the mom? I can understand Chelsea Noble who played Kirk's Girlfriend on the show. His real wife BTW or maybe Tracey Gold but the mom?
Paul8820 10 months ago
@Paul8820 cut your hetero card up if you didn't wanna fuck her. Kirk cameron and his wife are psychopaths, and tracy gold is a drunkard.
She was a milf who should have left that square ass family and done hot lesbo trib porn.
Anarchist86ed 10 months ago
@WolfattheDoor20 BTW Andrew Koeing. who played boner passed away in 2009.
Paul8820 10 months ago
This theme song pales in comparison with those of Benson, Greatest American Hero and Cheers

T.V and music today, well...fucking suck. I was born in 1991, and I'm always looking at life in past decades because these days shit sucks.
Growing Pains rules I'm watching the re-runs on T.V at the moment.

You wouldn't by chance be in Australia and watching it on 7TWO, would you? I'm your age and also watching GP reruns!
SenhorBundy 10 months ago
@SenhorBundy Yes! I am watching the Growing Pains reruns on 7TWO. They usually change the time format which is a pain in the ass. They just started playing this show Perfect Strangers which I've never seen. Hope they play Full House again. It's great to hear someone my age is enjoying these shows as well, most people are watching crap like Home and Away, Glee, Neighbours. Pff shithouse! 80's rock.
weightnut 9 months ago
man i am so an 80s baby and all the good family shows are no longer........the shows relfected what the family structure was back then for now it is no longer and its soo sad.....every thing is punk az reality tv.....gosh wish it stayed the 80s
pandaqlou 10 months ago
I just noticed the TV movie version from 2000. Damn, can't watch it because it make me feel two steps away from crying.
Grodesk 10 months ago
Who else watched this, Family Ties etc on Nick @ Nite? I wish I knew the 80s. Man some good family comedy dramas back then.
Jamiedana 11 months ago
why are there people discussing religion to this video?? let's just sit back and enjoy the good old sitcoms...
KollaDudurin 11 months ago
do the young generation REALLY need their crap on tv? We could easily just show them reruns (well reruns to us) of the great 70s to mid 90s sitcoms......plus they would be a little better off.
i dont think hannah montana really taught any decent lessons to kids...except how to be a skank..lol
mbenzsl2000 11 months ago
