They are the best dogs, my boy does that too sits in the middle of the garden checking the fences to make sure those cats are not walking along them, love them to bits they are wonderful dogs!

No you should'nt have a westie if you live in an apartment they are very energetic little dogs who love their garden, they would become bored and its not fair to have a dog like a westie in an apartment!

Westies are earthing dogs, they were originally bred to go underground to hunt vermin, thats why they like their garden they like to sniff round for critters, not that they would kill any, well not mine anyway because I would'nt let him, but I would'nt have one if I did'nt have a garden. The rescue people who we got him from asked to come and check our house before they would let us have him because they told us that they would not rehome a westie without a garden.

oh, wow really? yeah i read about how they used to hunt foxes, vermin, badgers, etc. hence the rough coat....

oh, :( i really wanted one, i mean we live in a duplex, my godparents in the bottom, they have a small garden in the front and a back yard (no grass though) i guess i would have to ask their permission to let him roam around :(

my westie Cassie had to be put to sleep a few months ago and boy are we and our neighbours lost without her. We live in a small quiet Close and Cassie would have the run of my front garden we all knew when anybody entered the close or even passed the top off the road. She would kick up such a fuss somebody or other would check to make sure everything was as it should be. we could all leave our front doors open in the summer. she was our private security firm and we all miss her so much

its funny how westies have a different attitude and voice compared to others. They are adorable and the funny thing is that they are small and act like big dogs growling at people randomly. LOL I LOVE THEM!

Hi wolfemactone ours gets away with murder, goes everywhere and does what she likes, wouldn't have it any other way, she is the most fun ever, let her be a total part ofthe family, I'm not one for saying that a dog should love in the kitchen or garden, she is a part of my family and always will be, enjoy him/her.

our westie is a nervous wee creature,but so affectionate..she cries sometimes at night till we let her stay upstairs with us..should we just let her snap out of this,if she ever will?nearly a year old now,nobody who has a westie could fail to fall under their spell..great wee dogs,strange mannerisms,moods,but all worth it,ends up your life is consumed by a small hairy white ball of fun....

@wolfemactone get a baby gate on your bedroom door so he can see you. put his bed on the other side and gradually move it farther to were you want him to sleep. it may take a while but it will work. Probbly 3 years late now to be responding though...
