I can't beilive I found this.....I was at the Fairmount in New Orleans years ago......and I saw Mel Torme and Elle Fitgeard (sorry if I didn't spell it right:) it was a great evening.
I'm so sorry Mr. Torme is no longer with us. An amazing talent whose musicianship was never failing, no matter his age. And of course, Mr. Shearing is likewise an ageless fount of talent. Thanks so much for posting this.
Shearing played as if he were an entire orchestra! Mel was my Mom's favorite singer, so he has a very special place in my heart. We always used to listen to that concert that he did at Michael's pub. I think that it's out of print now. Anyway... RIP Mel. You were/are great:) Ty Ty for the post.!
I had tickets to see these 2 back in the early 90's in Montreal for the Jazz Festival. Mr. Torme had a stroke not long before the concert and Joe Williams came instead; was still a fantastic concert, but never get to see Torme live and I am still sad about it.
I was there too with the Hair cast & a 16 year old Marcia Hines... he was genius performer & he 'made' the Aussie local band great too.....only noted US drummer Butch Miles came to Hobart with him & with Aussie Murray Wall on double bass, the 15 piece band with Mel at the helm, just cooked its head off...after the show, I walked half way home along Sandy Bay Rd to Battery Point before I remembered that I'd left my car behind at the Wrest Point Casino.....just like Stevie Wonder.....genius.....
Yep i was there in Hobart, I remember so many local rock band guys were also, I recall he recorded some songs on ABC TV at the time, one song he sang on those nights but never recorded was "Being Green"
Well I saw Tormé but one I missed out on was Sinatra, but never came down to Tassie
I've always loved this song (which Mel and George perform on the "An Evening at Charlie's" album). I had the pleasure of seeing them at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA a few years back. It is among my favorite concert memories.

Torme is my main influence as a singer. He was number one for me.

Torme was great. Saw him live at the JVC Jazz Fest at Carnagie Hall.
This tune, "Love is Just Around The Corner" was originally a Bing Crosby song from the 30's.
