  • Would love to see this in it's entirety.

  • I have this Friars Roast in its entirety, from the opening NBC peacock to the closing credits - including commercials...It was on Kraft Music Hall. (Unfortunately, my recording was on audio tape, and I'm an internet "luddite"...I have no idea how to post it.) This is the first video I've seen of it since I taped it from the 1970 broadcast. The deas guests included: Chet Huntley, Alan King, Milton Berle, Henny Youngman, Dick Cavett and George C. Scott. (Ed Herlihy did all the commercials.)

  • @Mickagume If you can find a way to get it to me I can do it for you.. MSG me.. I would love to see it and I know my Father would also love to see it.

  • @lilbro209 I would love to see it, too!... But, like I said in my comment, I only have it on AUDIO tape - not video. I wanted to post the audio tape because even without seeing it, the humor - both scripted and ad-libbed - is side-splitting!

  • i really wanna see the 'real' roasts all the behind the scenes jokes that would be awesome to here all these classic and clean comedians curse n everything! :) wish i was there!

  • After the "real" Friars Club roast, they'd often do a cleaner version for television. These were big hits in the late 1960's, and led to Dean Martin adopting the format for his TV show.

  • The real Friars Club roasts were so dirty that they didn't air anywhere.

  • I just listened to some of the other version of Johnny roasting Don and its hilarious.

  • @IIBNG76 If the one you heard is the one I heard all I can say is "hilarious" may not be strong enough of a word to describe that one! I've never been a Johnny Carson fan but man, he absolutely killed them doing "blue" material at the Rickles roast! PS: Does the following conjure up any images in your mind?: "The first time I saw Don Rickles he had a full head of thick, black, curly hair ..." LOL

  • @hayesman76 That is the one. Johnny went all out to "get" Rickles.

    Comedy gold

  • @hayesman76 Wow, where did you hear this? I'd love to find that.

  • @JAldridge86 I did some research based on what I remembered and discovered it was Pat Buttram. The routine is on "Funniest Roasts of the Century Vol. 2". You can listen to a snippet of Buttram (or buy theCD with Buttram's entire routine) at Amazon. Buttram was the sidekick of screen cowboy Gene Autry. Milton Berle introduced him at the roast and actually had some pretty good lines, too saying Buttram he had a "black belt in cowshit." LOL

  • @meanwiddlekid WHY ARE THE CLIPS SO SHORT

  • @meanwiddlekid Yep, even nowadays those roasts couldn't make it onto network tv without heavy editing. Have you heard the roast by the guy -- I guess he was part of a western singing or musical group during the 1940s or 50's, I'd never heard of him previously -- who absolutely KILLED the audience at one Friars Club roast? It's been a long time since I heard the tape of that roast but man, he absolutely knocked it out of the park. In fact, at one point between all the laughter you can clearly

  • (continued) hear one of the attendees say something to the effect, "OMG, this is f*cking outstanding ...!"

  • The Friars Club Roasts originally aired on "The Kraft Music Hall".
